Dessert and Allergies?

Hello,

I have some strange allergies and am concerned about desserts while in WDW. I am allergic to pretty much all fruit (well, what people consider fruits- not tomatoes and squash- but berries, apples, plums, cherries, etc) as well as tree nuts and am worried that all of the desserts will be un-edible to me while at our various dinners. Do most of the chocolate desserts have berries, cherries, oranges, etc actually in them? Or is it more of the sauces and stuff can just be left off? I know this is a silly thing to worry about, but I love my desserts and looking at all of the menus just has me drooling! I just want to know if I should plan on having to pass on the desserts or not.

Thank you!

I too have strange allergies. Disney usually handles food allergies very well. At the "sit down" places the chef with come out and go over whats in everything with you. At the counter service, there is usually a "book" at the register listing what is in the food. The books are not always updated-but I have had CM's offer to read the labels on items to find out what is in them. The best thing you can do is make your needs known. The Chefs are usually very helpful.

For your TS meals, I would call Disney Dining and let them know ahead of time. Then they can be prepared to make something special for you.

Desserts are tricky when it comes to allergies. In addition to fruit, do you have to avoid peanuts or just tree nuts? My DD is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and couldn't have any of the desserts except for ice cream. All of the chefs told us to stay away from baked goods since the items could be cross-contaminated. Maybe if you call ahead they can prepare something for you. Let us know how it goes and have a great time!

For desserts, we were served (on our allergen restriction) rice dream ice cream, brownies, and sorbet. Of course the sorbet would be out for you, but I wonder about the other two ? There were not a lot of dessert choices for us on our restricted diet, but they filled us up on food everywhere we went!

I have similar allergies and I was able to do some desserts. Pretty much no on any baked good but most places offer a creme brulee which was fine. I just made sure they did the dessert ungarnished to avoid fruit. I don't do ice cream at all because of potential for cross contamination but they probably can do ice cream from a "safe" carton just about anywhere. Breads are almost always a no as well unless they are baked on site.

My DD is allegic to dairy. When I called to make our adr's they connected me to food and beverage. I spoke with Theresa and she e-mailed me a list of all items and what ingrediants they contain, along with what CS has them. The email said that it can't be shared ( do to privacy act or something like that)so I will not post the e-mail sheets. However, below is her phone #. I'm sure you can get the sheets e-mailed to you.
An example of the e-mail shows
The following items are gluten, lactose, and peanut free.
Delicious Fudgie Brownie $2.50
Then it will list the CS that offers this
Hope this helps
