Denali National Park

I'm planning a trip this year and have no clue where to start! Anyone ever been? I'm a hiker, so what trails are best? Camping? Anybody done some back country hiking? What else is there to do there? Raft? Horseback riding?

I and a friend back-country hiked in the Mt. Sheldon area of Denali park for about 4-5 days... but that was in 1978. There are "trails" but they are not managed sense with markers, sign posts, numbers, etc. This is in keeping with the NPS's "low impact" management plan of the park. The trails we followed were ones blazed by large animals. I've looked at the current park map on-line, and it looks like the only exception to that is near the entrance with some short "interpretive" nature trails.

Thanks so much guys! Seems this park is a lot more primitive than other parks I've been to (Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, the list could go on)

They are companies all around that offer white water rafting. All close since Denali is small and is a tourist area.
If you want I can send you some brochures. We live about 3 hours from Denali and our ITT offers all kinds of info I can pick up.

You also might want to check out the bear problem they have had at Denali the last couple of years.

speaking of the bears, I was on a cruise/tour with Royal Caribbean and one of our stops was Denali. One of the guides decided to go hiking (alone ) when the rest of us went on the buses. She luckily was still near the ranger station when a grizzly came really close to her, stood on its hind legs and started huffing at her. The ranger came out and shot a warning shot and luckily the bear ran off. She was terrified and couldn't even finish the rest of the tour with us.
