Dell Notebooks...any opinions?

I bought one last October, love it. Mine is a base model, Inspiron 1150. I basically only use it when I travel, but I'm thinking next summer I can sit out on th porch with it, it has wireless internet and I hooked up a router to my DSL.

We bought one almost two years ago, and it has been sent back to Dell 4 times because the fan is not strong enough to keep it from overheating. The last two times, Dell fixed it even though it was out of warranty because it has been a recurrent problem with their laptops. My son uses it at college, and he has had to get a new computer (not a Dell - never again) because he can't afford to be without a computer for 2-3 weeks at a time. He checked some consumer website and found that many others are having the same problem with their Dell laptops.

We bought one last spring. I love it! I am really happy we purchased it. By the way I never really wanted a one but my DH thought I would like it.

Sorry but I dislike Dell, they're WAY over-rated, I have a Compaq that costs less and has less than my Dell but runs 100 times better

Everyone in my small company has a DELL Inspiron, each configured to our needs. We are all very happy with them. Have had mine for 2 years.

They are good. I have had mine for about 18 months, along with a few desktops, all great. Service is super also. Had a noisy DVD drive, just let the tech listen to it over the phone at 4 in the afternoon, had a new one overnighted the next day, 22 hours later, 2 in the afternoon, with prepaid return of original. Hard to beat that kind of service unless the guy was waiting in the driveway, LOL. Enjoy.

Love my dell. Just got the basic Inspiron 1000 because that is all I really need and it is FANTASTIC! Way better than my old POS computer :) Can't beat a laptop for 599

Well, I have a Compaq Presario laptop with all the bells and whistles and I love it, but from what I have researched and learned I wanted a Dell desktop, too, so I just bought a Dell Dimension because there's a coupon now for $300 off for that line (that cpn is only good for desktop comps priced over $999 and has some other restrictions, of course). There is no question about it - Dell offers quality, convenience and you can build your computer to the configuration you want, excellent customer service, and reasonable prices.

Yes, there are other manufacturers out there where you can get a better deal for the same or similar configuration, but aftercare is also very important.

I've also heard good things about buying refurbished models thru Dell. Some ladies at mycoupons.com, a coupon website, have even commented how refurbished is the way to go from a reputable company because the items are checked and fixed so many have bought refurbished Dells, but be sure to check the warranty, of course.

I would check the deal codes at www.gotapex.com , www.slickdeals.net, sign up to be on the Dell email list for special offers, and/or be sure to go thru Mypoints.com to earn points for rewards.

No, I don't work for Dell or anything - I just buy quality. :)

I'm on my Dell Inspiron 5100 right now and love it. I had my charger go out and they quickly sent a new one without a problem - good customer service, love that I can put on it what I want on it, for a fair price.

My family has bought other brands of computers in the past and have quickly realized that Dell is the best we can get. We won't buy anything else again.

I have a Dell Inspiron 600M with Office Professional software and I love it!!! Dell's customer service cannot be beat!

Recently I accidentally dumped a glass of lemonade into the keyboard  . I called Dell, thinking I would have to send it in and it would cost a lot. To my surprise, they sent a technician out to my house the next morning and he replaced the whole insides, free!! :sunny:

If Dell is the best you can get, then you are terrible at shopping around. :rotfl:

Dells are decent, but for the same prices, you can get better weight/portability/performance with better customer care.

Also check a few of the links here before you go to the Dell site, if you do decide on purchasing a Dell. They always have LOTS of discounts available, many times you can get better for less. Also, their package deals change most often at end of Wednesdays. And if you are employed by a medium to large size company, government, education or healthcare, check for further discounts at www.dell.com/eppbuy .

Great service, Rhonda. I bet they would even come to the campgrounds!!! :flower:

That's what I have, but a few more bells and whistles than the base! We bought it on the Dell refurb site. We've had it since July. I work from home as a medical writer and it's my primary computer, so I'm using it 8-10 hours daily. In fact, this message comes to you from my Dell

My dh has been really happy with his Dell laptop, but the customer service stinks. We've had numerous billing problems with Dell, but we have finally paid it off so we don't have to deal with them anymore.

When shopping for my new computer, the only thing that consistently came up when I mentioned Dell was that a great number of people said that I should just stay away from Dell notebooks. HAve you tried Consumer Reports?
