I haven't had any issues at DTD during the day or at night. Last visit was in 2007--traveled with others, but was solo part of the time. When PI was gated, there were very few issues, although some guests over-imbibed, which isn't unusual at any resort. :) But I never experienced issues with groups of teens or others hanging around the DTD area.

For me, DTD is a little too spread out now that PI is closed. It's a bit disconnected between the two main areas. But many people seem to enjoy it! :)

OP I am going solo in Nov.. When I go to DTD it will be during the day. Sad to say, I do not feel safe going there alone at night.

We each have to do what our intuition tells us is safe for us. If you feel uncomfortable there at night then dont go.

As for your question though, I think DTD is safe at night. That doesn't mean that there is zero chance of something happening to someone there. It just means that if you use common sense you are not likely to run into any issues. I have been to DTD solo many times at night and I have never thought twice about it. The Pleasure Island side can be a little disconcerting I think since they closed down the AC, Mannequins etc but it isnt deserted over on the PI side. If you feel like you will be uncomfortable then dont go to the PI side, the rest of DTD is always hopping with people. If you are staying on site and using Disneys bus service you have no worries there as the bus stops will be crowded with people. If you drive, park under a lamp post if you can and if you feel uneasy ask one of the security guards if they will walk with you to your car.

With any situation, it is all about using common sense but I think for a female if you are scared or skittish then people will sense your fear and if there was someone looking to get into mischief they would sense that fear and see you as an easy target.

For me DTD is just a natural part of my visit, once the Parks close that is where I am headed.

Give it a shot and if you feel uncomfortable then make your way back to the bus stop and go to your resort. The important thing is to do whatever makes YOU happy and makes for a wonderful solo vacation!!!!

I went last time a few times, day, evening and late night. I didn't see anything that made me feel nervous at the slightest. It was more lively later then earlier but I didn't see trouble causers or packs of teens.

I'm not trying to sound like a big scaredy-cat (although I do sound like one!) but last time I went to DTD at night was a few years ago and I didn't feel particularly comfortable there. It was when PI was open, admittedly, but there were large groups of teens hanging around the cinema as well and I felt just a little intimidated. We didn't have any problems, but we didn't hang around long.

I know I've read since that there used to be occasional trouble there, but I haven't seen anything lately. So, now PI's closed, is it different at night at DTD? I'm staying by DTD so hope to pop over there a couple of times, but is it safe enough at night for a solo, or more importantly, does it "feel" it? Should I not go over there at night?

Sorry if I'm sounding a bit afraid, but it was the only place in orlando I've ever been where I actually felt uncomfortable and couldn't wait to get away from before.

As others have said, each person must assess their own comfort/safety zone. I run over to DTD at night quite often now that I live close. I love to go have Oysters at Fultons, head over to House of Blues for the outdoor live performer, take a walk up and down through the shops, etc. However, I have never been uncomfortable in crowds of any age. I grew up near a not-so-safe neighborhood and got comfortable with my surroundings. It doesn't mean I am not cautious, just not intimidated.

Assess the situation when you are there. Enjoy the shops and the restaurants. There is a lot of fun to be had. Also, let us locals and others know when you are there and we could meet you there.

Blimey, sounds like how I used to feel in Southend on a Saturday night ! (I'm a Chelmsford girl !)

Ditto for me on the "comfort level." But if something there is calling to you ... and you can do it during the daytime ... try that and see how you still feel. I find the level of activity and the crowds at night a little too much ... and there is an edge to all that activity that isn't like anywhere else in WDW. Last time we were at PI was (OMG) 15 years ago. And the world was a lot different then. Have fun!!!!

Yes, it is safe at night. But keep in mind that while the shops are open to midnight and some beyond, that doesn't mean you have to be there that late. DTD and its shops and restaurants are pretty crowded from 7pm onward and it starts to slow down after 10pm. That's a good time to go whether you're walking from a nearby hotel or driving yourself.

While Pleasure Island is rather dead overall, there are hundreds of people constantly walking across it between Marketplace and West Side. You won't be alone at night. They have a couple of musical acts now on the Island that have made things a little more lively than it has been since the night clubs closed.

You really should not have any problems visiting DTD.

I'd only be afraid if DisBoard members acm563, Fauntleroy Duck, TTester and a few of their cronies are hanging around....especially if you're a male. :D

Hmm I love DTD. It is one of my absolute favorite places to visit in Disney.

But like another poster said if you do not feel safe there then do not go.
