hi everyone!!

my DH and i and heading down in oct and are using our first stay as DVC owners. i booked just a studio not knowing that they had "different" kinds. can someone tell me what the differences are and which they prefer. also, is it too late to call back and request one or the other??
by the way, we are staying at ssr and bvc, didn't know if that changed the opinions.
thank you for your info!!

I don't believe there are any "dedicated studios". There are "dedicated two-bedroom" units vs. "lockoff two-bedroom" units.

A lockoff 2B is a 1B plus a studio with the dividing door open. AFAIK, all of the studios are part of a 2B lockoff configuration--they can either be reserved as a 2B or as a 1B + Studio.

In the Studio, you will see the dividing door that would lead into the 1B, but obviously that door will be locked. You shouldn't experience any undue noise or disruption due to the presence of the connecting door.

I know BWV has many dedicated studios and 1 bedrooms. All 5 times I stayed at BWV we had a dedicated 1 bedroom, which meant no connecting door. The dedicated studios at BWV have the small daybed. I believe BCV and SSR also have dedicated studios & 1 bedrooms but I don't think they have the studios with the daybed. As far as I know, OKW does not have any dedicated studios & 1 bedrooms, all are lockoffs.

SSR does not have any dedicated studios. Each buidling has the following configuration:

2 Grand Villas
20 Dedicated 2Bs
24 Lockoff 2Bs (can be reserved as 1B + Studio)

Well, I guess that covers two resorts (BWV and SSR). ;)

Know you are not staying at VWL, but in case you ever do, they also have "dedicated studios". We had one on our last trip. It was #1514, short walk down the hall from the elevator, alomost across the hall from the laundry, patio looked out towards walk way to the WL Lobby. It had no connecting door to another unit and had an extra closet. It was pretty roomy. It was just DH and I so we were very happy with it. I didn't request it. It was just luck of the draw.

Enjoy your stay.

There are really no such things as a dedicated studio. There may be a studio somewhere that is not part of a lock-off system but I do not know of one. You can have only two bedrooms that are lock-offs or dedicated.

We stayed in a "dedicated" studio at BWV. There's really not that much difference except for an extra bench.

A number of the resorts have "dedicated" studios and 1 BR units, meaning not part of a lockoff.

I believe the "dedicated" studios are:

Resort and number

BWV 97
VWL 20
BCV 22

Plus there are the 111 suites at VB

We noticed a big difference in the dedicated studio we had at VWL and the lock-off we had at BCV. The entance area at BCV was quite a bit larger than at VWL. BUT we got more storage at VWL in the dedicated studio. I really missed that at BCV.

Maybe it was just a difference is one resort versus the other (the storage..drawers in the kitchenette.. more storage under the sink in the bathroom instead of just a huge empty place).

We have to DDs ages 11 and 15. Staying in a studio gets us twice as much time as staying in a one bedroom.. but it also gets a bit crowded. And when you are gonna be there for a week or more that extra storage is NICE.

We always request "dedicated" studio (non lock- off) at the Beach Club Villas.

We stayed in a dedicated studio at BCV in February. There was no connecting door, and the balcony was private (although a bit small). On one side of us was a utility room, and the other was a fire door or something like that. It was nice and quiet, no screaming kids (or adults!) next door to spoil our quiet time. We had a great woodland view and could watch the higher fireworks from EPCOT (and hear the music). We had requested dedicated and got it with no problem.
