Dedicated 2BR through RCI

It's me...back again with another RCI/DVC question.

We've got an ongoing search set up for next year. I'm feeling pretty confident we'll get something as the power of our week is very high and we've been seeing a lot of availability (just not at our time yet).

The biggest concern we have right now is over the type of room we'll be able to get. There will be at least 6 adults staying in the room. We have been seeing plenty of 2BR rooms, so we think we'll be able to get one of those fine. However, we'd REALLY like to get a dedicated room so we can have 3 beds. The question is, if we have something pop up on RCI, will we be able to check and see if it's a dedicated or lock-off unit before we confirm? Is it possible to request a dedicated unit?

I'm pretty sure all OKW 2BR units have 3 beds (correct) and I read that BCV dedicated units do not have the 3rd bed. However, do all of the rest of the resorts dedicated rooms have 3 beds?

Thanks again for everyone's help. As our 11 month mark approaches, we're getting very excited!

You will not know before you confirm. RCI does not have this information on its end, and it takes approximately one week for the confirmed booking to be transferred to DVC. After that time, you can call Member Services and ask what booking category you are under.

Yes, all OKW 2BRs have two real beds in the second bedroom, whether dedicated or lockoff. And yes, some dedicated BCV 2BRs have a pull-out in the 2nd bedroom. Also, IIRC, none of the 2BRs at BWV are dedicated, so it would be worth leaving that last one off of your list for sure, and maybe leave BCV off as well.

If you want to play it safe, restrict yourself to OKW. If you want to roll the dice, take a confirmation at one of the others, but buy the cancellation protection. It will cost you $70ish, but you can then back out of the confirmed exchange if you find that it is a lockoff and not dedicated. I think your chances of getting a dedicated rather than lockoff unit are good.

You mention your "11 month window" approaching. Does that mean you are planning a February or March trip? Both are fairly popular with DVCers. February because of lower point costs, and March because of spring breaks. I agree with Brian, if you request OKW, you will have a guarantee of getting the right number of beds. An OKW 2 bedroom will have 1 king, 2 queens, 1 queen sleep sofa, and 1 twin sleep chair.

Thanks for the responses! I was afraid there would be no way to confirm this information, but the good news is we're not INCREDIBLY picky. Having a lockoff is not a deal breaker. It would just be more convenient to have that additional bed. The other thing I thought of last night was in regards to AKL. From what I've seen, it seems like all 2BR units in Kidani Village have 3 beds (this could be an incorrect assumption on my part...) but do the RCI weeks generally go into Kidani or is it just a toss-up?

Also, yes, we are planning a trip for the first week of March. Again, I'm feeling pretty confident at this point. We've been planning this trip for a long while now so we've been able to monitor RCI to see what kind of things we're pulling and we were pulling March units for this year which hopefully means we'll be fine with next year. And like I mentioned above, we're not incredibly picky. As long as we get a place that accommodates 6, we'll be happy.

Good luck with the RCI trade! I can't wait to go on our RCI/DVC trip this September.

Thanks! I'm assuming you got BCV through RCI? Have you gotten any information on what type of room you'll be staying in?

I forgot to ask when I called MS. :rolleyes1

We have 2 weeks booked in 2 bedrooms. I originally had 1 wk at BCV followed by a wk at OKW, but the 2nd week came up at BCV on Friday so I was able to get it switched so we won't have to change resorts. I need to call MS in a couple of weeks and get our new reservation # for the 2nd week and see if they can link the 2 reservations and hopefully avoid having to change rooms.

I've read that RCI AKL rooms are normally at Kidani. Can't remember where I saw that though.

Just the odds would make this statement true. Kidani has many more DVC rooms than Jambo House.

We got a 2bdr at Kidani with a RCI exchange last year and our family loved having the 2 beds in the second room. This is one resort we wish to return to.

Generally DVC tends to deposit dedicated units for the 2 BR. OF course for BWV and BCV this still means only 1 queen bed in the second plus a pullout. We had three 2 BR exchange units in Sept and the one at BCV was a dedicated with pull out IIRC. I also know DVC will almost certainly not change it later. A couple of years ago at VB I only needed the 1 BR and offered to swap for the 1 BR so they'd have the 2 BR for other purposes and they said they couldn't, that it had to be the unit type deposited.

This is very interesting about AKL. Looking at reviews from past RCI stays, it seems like everyone got Kidani Village. Fingers crossed we could get that, as the extra bathroom would be fantastic.

Another quick question, what's the difference between the DV and the RD resort IDs? When you're looking at them in the resort directory, it makes it seem like the DV IDs are for points and the RDs are for weeks. However, when I log in and see what's available currently (we have weeks) it gives me a bunch of DVs. Accordingly, I set up my ongoing search to pull the DV weeks. Is that correct?

The RDXXs are used for rental inventory from CRO. The DVXXs are used for exchange inventory, on both the Points and the Weeks sides.
