Decorating your stateroom?

No tapes, adhesive or command hooks. I am sure some stateroom hosts might have a hard time enforcing this as they fear for their tips being removed. I would no want to put them in this position.

Just to clarify, I used the painters tape in the room, not on the door. It wasn't a big deal...host used it with one of his towel decorations too.

I haven't done a Disney cruise yet, but I will in about 5 weeks! I've done many other cruises though and we use TONS of magnets, they are great for putting up the schedule for the day and such. There are some really good tiny STRONG magnets.

I also bring and put up about 3-4 command hooks, great for towels, hats, etc. I've never had an issue or heard any problems from it.

Even the ceiling is metal. I had streamers and hanging garlands for my son's birthday. As long as you use magnets, shouldn't be a problem. The official word is no suction cups so I didn't try that.

I will only repeat what I posted before:

The DCL website says (bolding mine):

Q:Can I decorate my stateroom door or hang items over the doors?
A:Guests are welcome to place magnetic signs on their stateroom doors. Please note that Concierge rooms on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy do not have metal doors.

Guests are prohibited from affixing items to stateroom doors utilizing tape or any adhesive, including removable gel adhesives. We have found that these adhesives damage the finish on the stateroom doors and therefore ask that guests limit door decoration to those of the magnetic variety.

Concurrently, we ask that guests not use over-the-door hanging organizers as they have been found to scratch and/or disfigure stateroom doors and trim.

Guests found with damaged doors are assessed a $100 damage fee per incident to cover the cost of repairs.

I'd think that the word "any" means and all methods of attachment that are adhesive, glue-based, or sticky.

Here's the thread that was started in April 2013 when DCL clarified this restriction:

Maybe it's a stretch, but I would think that the restriction applies to any surface, whether the door or the interior walls.

I brought a few foldable cardboard "centerpieces" and a banner with little loops on the end from the dollar store and put them around the room for DS birthday.

Okay this may be a solution... Get a strong magnet and stick a command sticky hook to it and the place the magnet on the ceiling/wall... To hang things such as banners or decorations!

I'm bummed about the rule change regarding over the door holders. I loved having it when we cruised last year! I understand the reasoning though, and I'll follow the rule. :)

Did you read the quote from the prohibited list? Guests are prohibited from affixing items to stateroom doors utilizing tape or any adhesive, including removable gel adhesives.

I think PP meant the static cling kind that go on windows. They don't have adhesive, they just cling with static electricity...

You're actually really lucky your cabin host did this for you. I suspect it's because he/she didn't want to disappoint you and fear the tips may be reduced. Your daughter looks really happy though.

I didn't even ask him to do it. He volunteered:) But he did get a really nice extra tip though which I usually do anyway because of the stellar service we always get.

I'm kind of bummed to hear the doors in concierge aren't metal, so I can't put the up the little poster I made for our cruise. I understand we can't use over-the-door hangers or tape, etc. I'm wondering if a decorative choice I make sometimes at Christmas for our door would work and be within the boundaries set by DCL. I've taken ribbon, you know the kind you wrap with, and put it around the door, lengthwise, tied it and curled the ends with scissors, to 'wrap' the door - it goes all around the door. I'm thinking I could do that, attach the 'poster' to the ribbon only, and the ribbon should keep the poster in place, without causing any damage to the door. Thoughts?

Also, are the walls in 1-bedroom concierge metal too? I'd like to decorate for my mom and daughter's birthdays, but while the package available is very Disney and colorful, it seems more geared towards kids - mom's going to be 79 and DD is going to be 18, so... ;) I may have flowers delivered though, because those would be difficult to hide in my carryon. :scratchin

We cruised in January for my husband's birthday and I decorated the stateroom. I used some of my door magnets to hang a birthday banner from the ceiling and a very small amount of tape to hang my handmade Mickey streamers from the metal curtain track. I decorated in the morning and took everything down at the end of the day and had no problems at all.

Great, thanks! :)

The doors in Concierge are metal. They just have a wood veneer over them (talking about the Dream class ships). You can still use magnets, but you need stronger ones that the typical brown, rubber, fridge-type magnets.

Ah, ok, that's great! I should be able to do without the ribbon (although a touch might look cute, I'll have to think about it!), but just augment the magnets so it sticks to the door. Thanks again, PrincessShmoo; you've helped me a few times! :goodvibes
