There was a thread awhile back about people decorating the doors and windows of their rooms. In some cases, Disney charged the guest a $25 cleaning charge because they left a mess that Disney had to deal with.
Perhaps you could design a door hanger (kind of like a Do Not Disturb sign) to hang over the door handle. That would not hurt anything and could still lend a personal touch.
Found this product online when I searched 3M COMMAND.
Command Mounting, Replacement & Poster Strips
Mounting and replacement strips come in three sizes to help you meet any decorating or organizational challenge. Use as replacement strips for Hooks, Clips and Hangers, and as a way to mount photos or postcards.
Probably can find it at Michaels or Home Depot type store!
Two issues that I can think of:
The first has to do with fire codes. I used to work in a college dorm and the fire code forbid any kind of paper being hung from the walls or doors in the hallways. Announcements had to be on bulletin boards that were behind glass.
It may not be ok to hang a large paper display on the door.
The second: if your child spends a lot of time working very hard on something that she's proud of, and it is then removed from the door (either by cast members or by some idiot who rips it down), how happy is she going to be?

Perhaps it could be a good segway to the idea of giving them out to the cast.
The lesson about not defacing hotel property would be a valuable one as well.
I think it's wonderful you have an opinion. If you're annoyed by my posting; DON'T read it! The door that I'm paying for has nothing to do with ruining the the theming of Disney.
Worst case scenario:
You just arrive to Jambo house and you're basking in the atmosphere. Wow your room is ready and you're on your way . You make it to your corridor and begin walking. You're thinking, what a beautiful place. You're noticing all the different shields on each door. You feel the excitement of viewing your room well up in your stomach. All of a sudden you turn to your left and OMG there are mickey heads on a door. This can't be. This is a DELUXE RESORT. It's so hideous. You almost faint because your so appauled.
Give me a break...![]()
No, my worse case scenario is I turn left and see many rooms decorated with paper mickey heads. I think the rules are set in place for that reason...and part of the reason we like AKL/AKV is for the decor.
Is it worth it given it's location??

some photos when you return from your trip.![]()
I'm so glad that you called the resort and received the answer to your question. Also, it sounds as if you found a great solution for showcasing your child's artwork!
Unfortunately, it sounds as if you are upset by the responses you received. Please remember though that your idea of "tasteful" isn't necessarily any one else's and "defacing" property is not always a willful act - it can be intentional or unintentional. Personally, I am pleased that Disney does not allow exterior decoration of rooms at AKL. It is a gorgeous property in it's own right and even the "command" product can take paint off of or discolor walls (my daughter used it in her dorm room). This is a public forum where anyone can respond to your post - people aren't "nuts" because they disagree with your/your daughter's concept.
I hope you have a great vacation!
