We booked a 9C room on the Magic, on deck 2. Are the lower decks considered less desirable? I couldn't find any stateroom reports for our specific room, so I wasn't sure how the room/location will be. Any input?:flower3:

We had an interior Deck 2 Magic for 4 (2A, 1C, 1T) and it was fine for size, storage space, and functionality. Realizing you are in an OV everyone I spoke to that 11- night cruise in the OV Deck 2 LOVED their rooms. Many of them routinely stay in Deck 2 OV because, for them it is a great combo of natural light, space, cost, and location. Look up stateroom reports here and other sites (just Google -you'll get lots of hits) to get more info. However, pay attention to report dates as they could be from the late 90's for the Magic.

We can afford veranda rooms but on our last trip I tried deck 2 aft, room 2110 and loved it! It was the perfect location for us! We booked the same room next year.

Thanks! I googled our stateroom number and didn't see any recent reports. I did find reports for the Wonder, which I figured may be a similar layout as the Magic?

We are in the forward of the ship.

Our first cruise was on the Magic in a 9C. I found the room awesome. Good views, quiet location. I think you will really enjoy it.

We love Deck 2, always book the same few, which have about two foot extra space, at the front of the ship.

Wonder will be the same, so comments re. Noise, space and location fit for both.

There is a site that gives stateroom reviews on the Magic, but can't name it here.

How come?

Many absolutely love deck 2. We tried it once and it was the only cruise where we didn't sleep well. Not sure why....movement, maybe?

Out of all our DCL cruises we have done Deck 2 on the Magic and Wonder over a dozen times. We love the location. My favorite is 2546 area but have been forward, aft and smack in the middle. Deck 2 is so convenient to many things on the ships and only an elevator ride away from the top decks. You will really love Deck 2 when you come back from an excursion and don't have to climb a ton of stairs or wait long for an elevator to get to your deck. Or, if you forget something from your cabin or want to drop something off or change it is only a flight or two down from the dining rooms and atrium and clubs. Very easy to come and go from you cabin.

Many will say only higher decks are desirable but that is all personal preference. Cruise lines do charge more for higher decks but that is because of the perception from the old cruising days where lower decks were considered "steerage". You get the same service and amenities as higher decks and you would never even know what deck you were on as the décor is the same. We love deck 2 and find it is a perfect combination of location, price, convenience and value.

We are booked on deck 1 midship in connecting 9Ds right now but I'm debating moving up to deck 2. It looks like the connecting rooms that are open right now on deck 2 are under Lumiere's or Carioca's. Have you noticed any extra noise from the restaurants or from the thrusters?

That was a long long long time ago, and people do not pay for history.

Staterooms are priced on " value" and " perceived value", people pay for benefits.

It is accepted a verandah room is better than an ocean view, is better than an inside room.

If on release day all the prices were exactly the same, people wouldn't book deck2, they would book higher decks. Everyone knows the benefits, " today" and not based on cruising in history.

Deck2 is closer to:- engines, the sea, the waves, the vibration, and is enclosed, therefore as science dictates, the closer you are to something, the more effect you get, and science covers the further you are away, the least effect you get.

We stayed in an OV on deck 2 in 2014. We are staying on deck 2 in an OV again this year! We did feel slight thruster vibrations, but actually, the vibrations were much much worse on Dream this past December docking at CC. And we were on deck 7 with a verandah!
I do not have any concerns about staying again on deck 2. For us it was a choice - either we choose the cheapest OV room ( I don't like inside rooms) or we didn't go!
We are in room 2114 this year, which I think is a 9c - I will be happy to report back OP (our cruise is 27th Aug) :goodvibes

We love Deck 2. We've stayed in a verandah on Deck 6 before, and OV on Deck 5. For us, we don't use the verandah enough to pay the prices for it. We love Deck 2 because it's so easy to get to all the restaurants, theatres, kids clubs, etc. No need to wait for a lift, just walk it. We prefer aft, as DH complains about the distance to Cabanas when we're forward - since we usually send him to get first breakfast in the morning :).

When we were on Deck 2 aft on the starboard side DH noticed that at some stage every night (when I was asleep usually, so can't tell you the time) they moved a fridge or something across the room. DH tends to be a lighter sleeper than I am, so he said it woke him up most nights, but then he just went straight back to sleep. We didn't notice any other amazingly loud noises, or even really any slightly loud ones. My kids were both happy to sleep through any of the noises they might have heard. So he thinks being under the kitchen is worse than being under the dining rooms themselves. Once the dining rooms are packed up for the night they're not used again until the next day. The only thing that I could think is that Lumiere's is usually used for breakfast, so if you're a late sleeper that might disturb you. Our kids are always up before anything is open, so that's not an issue for us :).

I always thought midship and lower was better for less movement and seasickness, as higher decks would sway more? We will be on deck 2 for Norway cruise via North Sea, so I hope that is how it is.

deck 2 is less heave and sway than higher decks, if your sea sickness is caused by this movement than you are good on deck 2. you are also dealing with perceived movement versus actual which causes vertigo type reaction and your queasiness. fresh air helps some people but you can't count on that. looking across the horizon instead of the waves can also help. you move less nearer the ships center of gravity and where you have daylight. bonine before leaving port the first day is a good precaution.

Your opinion and you are entitled to it. We have booked Deck 2 on opening day several times, not because we can't afford higher decks, but because we like Deck 2.

We did deck 2 midship (interior) for this same cruise, and I am the one that gets sea sick. North Sea was rough in one direction (although probably considered rather calm for the North Sea), and quite a few people were feeling ill and/or medicating for those days. The deck 2 room did not cause me any problems, my Bonine at night worked very well, and I was really only in the room for sleeping/bathing/changing - otherwise was elsewhere on the ship. Enjoy the cruise!

We have also stayed on deck 2, twice now, including the 11 night Norway/Iceland/Scotland sailing and had no issues. I had commented in another thread when we were crossing in the North Sea, the waves did splash up against our window (don't let that freak you out) and the motion in our cabin was far less than when we went up to even deck 4. The only motion that was more pronounced in our cabin because we were forward was the pitching feeling of going up and down in the water, but again, nothing major. I have stayed every deck but deck 1, and every location and deck 2 was just fine and it definitely has a fan club :) I say pick a cabin/location you are comfortable paying for and don't worry :) Sometimes the difference between an oceanview and a verandah is several thousands for a family of three and sometimes it's simply not worth it especially when deck 2 is lovely for the view.

We were upgraded to deck 5 on our next cruise. I'm kind of bummed I would rather be on deck 2. I find deck 2 the most convenient to everything. I also love being close to the water.
