Deck 2 Oceanview Rooms on the Magic

Deck 2 is ok on the Magic and Wonder. We love deck 5 because there are fewer staterooms and less foot traffic. It comes down to preference.
The biggest issue I have with deck 5 is the rooms are only forward or aft, nothing midship.

I keep reading comments mention "sitting in the portholes..." Do all rooms on deck two have a window you can sit in? (Especially deck two on the wonder, since that's where we'll be!)

No, the only portholes large enough to sit in on the Wonder are in the Route 66 area (deck 3). Not in the staterooms.

On the Dream class ships, the portholes in the staterooms are large enough to sit in.

Deck five is really good, hence why the kids clubs are located there on the ships.

There is less effect forward and aft on deck five, than on deck two where your closer to the sea, closer to the waves, the current, and on the engines. The science is that the closer you are to anything the biggest effect you get, the further away you are the least effect. Cause and effect.

Have you ever stayed on deck 5 forward in a porthole room? I'm guessing not. You feel a lot of movement because it is forward. They must teach science differently in the UK.

My TA did not recommend deck 5 oceanview when we looked at booking category 9 on the classic ships. She said even though it's right down the hall from the kids clubs (bonus for us) there can be noise from the theatre below. Even just the crew rehearsing at odd hours.
We didn't have a problem with a forward cabin on deck 8 though, felt some movement but not a lot more than deck 6 midship where we've also stayed before.

So, then the big question is what's above me, on deck 3? It looks like we are below the tail end of the pub.

You ask a good question. We had a deck 2 room on our Wonder NYE cruise and the first night we heard a thump, thump, thump noise after midnight. The next night we heard the same noise. My wife called guest services to complain and I walked up to the 3rd floor to investigate. It turns out a CM was vacuuming and lifting the heavy chairs to vacuum under them and letting the chairs fall creating the thumping sound. I told the guest services person who was on the phone with my wife and she called someone to have him change his vacuuming technique. The next day we received a nice note and a bottle of champaign.

We were in 2552 on the Wonder last month and there was not enough room to sit in the window. The couch is right there though, so we felt like it was easy to have a great view out the window regardless. We LOVED it actually, being so close to the water was great. My husband who stated he simply couldn't live without a balcony anymore after cruising with one the last couple of times loved it so much we booked the exact same room again for next year. :)

I, personally, get more motion sick higher up than lower. The times we've sailed on deck 7 my saving grace has been opening the balcony door for the breeze and looking out. Its manageable without medicine (except in Animator's - I find I am always ill in Animators) but I don't feel the same way at all midship on deck 2. Even when we had an inside on our first cruise I was fine, but as someone said a page ago I'm not claustrophobic so that might help.

I'm actually glad to read your report as we were also GREATLY disturbed by deck 3 middle of the night vacuuming practices when we were on deck 2 and yours is the first I've seen anyone else mention it! We were in Wonder 2050 and I finally investigated after listening to repetitive thump, thump for a long time each night around 3:00 am to find that it was the vacuum banging against the booths in Wavebands. I talked to guest services about the noise via phone mid-week and they also sent us a bottle of wine. Finally on the last night I even talked to the head of housekeeping after tracing the source of the noise, but I don't know if they changed their vacuuming practices or not. I loved our deck 2 location other than this, and am trying a different location in the future and I'll definitely be talking to guest services and housekeeping right away if we have middle of the night vacuum problems!

It was the funniest thing to see. The guy with the vacuum would pick up the chair with one hand, vacuum under it, and then drop it. Thump! I think we got 2 bottles of champagne from it. It was the NYE cruise, so there was free champagne at midnight on NYE, so we drank plenty of champagne on the cruise.

If you have a room in the aft of deck 2, you'll be underneath Carioca's. Not the pub. Except for dinnertime, there's really not much activity there. It shouldn't interfere with sleep time.

We'll be in the forward.

We're on deck two on the Wonder in August (room 2050) and if there is even the slightest thumping, that first night you can bet I'm up there putting the kibosh on that!

Hopefully they changed their vacuuming technique! I bet I scared the guy a bit when I showed up at 4:00 am with my camera on a mission videoing to see what the h*ck the noise was. ;)

I'm back and found this post. I'm pleased to report that there was no thumping! The room was quiet and awesome!

So happy to find this post! I'm taking my parents on the Magic during Presidents' Week and we are in 2002 and 2004! :) Super excited, especially after reading through these!

We have only sailed the Magic and only on deck 2. We love it! 2 10C (inside) and 1 9B (ocean view) we have a 10C booked for next summer on the Northern European.

We have a deck 2 Oceanview room booked. At first, I was a little hesitant being that it's closer to the middle of the ship, but so far good reviews. That's encouraging! :flower3:

Another vote for deck 2. We prefer midship as well.

We always take the stairs. It helps us burn off those extra desserts that somehow keep sneaking onto our plates.
