DECEMBER 6, 2009 Winter WONDERland sailing!!!

Yes, I am a cast member in Epcot. I was part-time but dropped to seasonal in June. Between having elderly parents to worry about leaving for long days, the gas prices didn't help since I live an hour away.

Hey...I noticed my trip ticker went away...

the one about next years cruise? I see it

I see it now too. Guess it was just a momentary glitch. Don't know why - but I always like looking at them especially when it gets REALLY close!

yeah I have mine on here but its so far down you cant see it...after this trip in a few weeks to DL Im gonna bring it back up

So....

Any one going to decorate your doors with magnets and decorations?

Smiles,

Holly
I guess a lot of people will, especially because of MouseFest. I'm not going to do anything at that level. I may decorate with my user name and a few of my favorite characters (You know who those are!), but I had a couple of bad experiences with people stealing my door magnets in the past, so I won't go all out with it. I'll just enjoy seeing everyone else's door decorations as I walk through the corridors!

Right I keep forgetting about MouseFest. They'll do a contest for door decorating.

Shari is right though - people have had experiences with people stealing stuff off the doors. I'll probably stick to things with my user name. I might do a Christmas-themed one with my name. (and yes, my birthday is on Christmas).

I am posting a bit in the last few days mostly cause I am just SO excited to have a cruise booked. I absolutely loved cruising the last time. I don't think it wears off ... just ask Shari as this is her 12th cruise.

Not that I should volunteer her services without asking - but since she's been on so many - she's a good one to ask questions.

Smiles,
Holly

Maybe, but since the DIS is chock FULL of info, current trip reports, etc., I don't think anyone will really need to do that! ;)

That is true. When I was going on my first - I literally poured all over the site for info. It was great because I really had a good idea of what I wanted to do, what I wanted to take (when you pack take HALF back out :lmao: ) and so forth.

Now having cruised one that "take half back out" really makes sense. Certain things I am glad I took - such as my own blow dryer. Unless they've updated the blow dryers - you might as well have the Big, Bad Wolf huff and puff to dry your hair. Will work better. (ha ha - Shari will tell you that she used it and thought it was fine...)

I WILL bring a clock with a lighted dial. I like to know what time it is when I wake up in the night. And since I'll be in a Cat 11, it'll be dark.

Air freshener(s) for the bathroom. Do NOT bring the plug-in kind for safety.

I will NOT bring my own wine bottle if it has a cork. You cannot carry on a corkscrew and the one that DCL will bring you takes Hercules to use.

Actually I just looked up my own Trip Report from my first cruise. Since I'm old and can't remember well :rotfl2: it's like reading a new post. Plus wow...I never really finished it. Oh well. Get past the first few posts (if you can) and I did my own list of what I actually used and didn't use. Ha ha - I even disagree with what I posted above about taking half of what you pack out. :lmao:

Holly

No - not exactly fine - LOL. I have LONG, thick hair and it took a LONG time to dry with that blow dryer! What I like to do is use my absorbant "Aquis" microfiber towel to blot my hair (the towel is thin and takes almost no room in luggage), then sit on the verandah for awhile and hope for a breeze, then finish the drying with the stateroom's blow dryer. Last time, we were in Cat. 5 and that worked. This time, with (my favorite) Cat. 7 Navigator Verandah, it isn't so open and I won't get quite as much of a breeze. That plus this being a 4-day so not needing as many clothes, I probably WILL take my small blow dryer. I only like to check ONE piece of luggage, so I am an obsessively organized packer! :)

And hey - Just want to mention that Holly and I are NOT trying to take over this thread! Where IS everybody? Where is disneegrl4eva? Post about your cruise plans, tell about your door decorations past or future, write about yourself and why you are doing this cruise . . . We're only trying to keep the cruisin' vibes going and the thread bumped up! :earsgirl:

I just booked our first Disney Cruise.

It's just my DH and me. We have no children.

We've been to WDW 20 times and decided it was time to take a cruise. We'll probably spend some time at WDW after the cruise.

I'm sooooooooooo excited:banana:

WELCOME msgoofy! Can't wait to meet you. It's going to be a WONDERful cruise!

:welcome: :boat:

I was reading another post about the fish extender.

Thought this might be fun to do as a Secret Santa.

Is anyone familiar with this?

Thanks.

I don't know much about the Secret Santa stuff - but I bet someone on here will!

Holly

Oh I definitely am...I started finding graphics at the beginning of this year...we've started going through them and filtering them out...

Im here...I had my grandson last 2 days and its been hard to get on here...no im not old...his mom is just young lol:rotfl: anyways ok Ive never been on a cruise before...I totally love disney and have spent the majority of my years vacations going to DL since I live in CA...I have always wanted to do wdw and when Disney first announced they were opening DCL I about fell out...Ive wanted to go for so long but nobody wanted to go with me..well they didnt want to spend the money to go therefore didnt want to go with me....so I finally just decided 2yrs ago that I was gonna go by myself and then once that happened I picked a date and then at the end of last year my friend Andrea decided she wanted to go along with her kids so we booked it as soon as it came open..I probably was one of the first if not the first person to book this cruise:rotfl: I too have perused the boards for info...am planning on bringing wrinkle release spray, popup hamper, glade flameless candle, Tip envelopes w/tips to name a few...ok disney cruise pros...I have a couple of questions for you 2...

1. lets say Palo is booked when I call to make my reservations on my 90 days out....
if I want to get first or 2nd in line at wavebands to get Palo reservations what time should I be there?

we are planning on getting to the boat around 10:30ish or so...

2. I have heard about some people having bad servers and it lessened the joys of their dining experiences....

If you have just a horrid server is there nothing you can do? Do you have to just suck it up and deal with it?

1. If you are SERIOUSLY determined, go hang right outside the entrance to Wavebands as soon as you board! But a more "logical" scenario would be to eat lunch QUICKLY then get to Wavebands immediately. On shorter cruises, availability at Palo is EXTREMELY limited. I will skip Palo dinner this time but may try for the brunch as it is excellent, but if I can't get it online, I won't bother.

2. Oh, yes! Just ask Holly! Our server in January 07 was so bad that by the last couple of nights we were the ONLY ones left at the table! BUT . .

Decide the FIRST night if you can handle your server - LOL. If not, go straight to the Head Server, explain that it just isn't working out, and politely ask if you can be reassigned to another server. That will mean changing tables and sometimes even rotations. It also means that if there are two of you it is more easily done. For a party of 3, 4 or more, it's sometimes not do-able at all. Good luck!

good to know...yeah unfortunately for us it will be 5 people...2A and 3C...so hopefully we will get a good server....I am seriously determined to get Palo reservations...we want to do both Dinner and brunch but Im just going to hope I get some pixie dust here and we can do them both...if not I will take whatever I can get:confused3 ..thanks for your help...Im sure I will have more questions later on....

Oh, this sounds so much like ME! Years ago, one of the things I always wanted to do was go on a cruise - but no one I knew either could go or wanted to go. Then I met Shari and that solved that!

You know years ago when people didn't want to do things I wanted to do - I said the heck with it - and started traveling and doing stuff on my own. Scary at first - but at least I am not sitting here saying "I wish I had gone".

I am going to try for brunch, but I won't be super disappointed if I don't get it. I really loved brunch. Wasn't as excited about dinner.

2. I have heard about some people having bad servers and it lessened the joys of their dining experiences....

Ah....yeah...our server. I'd heard all these stories about how GREAT the servers were, how they'd recall what you liked, etc. Then I went on my first cruise. Our head server proceed to immediately give one of our table mates a difficult time. I think all they said was that they were a vegetarian and she went on and on about if they were allergic to meat or just didn't like it. (memory serves me a little badly here - but I know it was way out of proportion to what the guest said). Then she kept messing up the order of the other family.

As for me, I told her there were two things about me: I don't eat fish, and I like my meat really rare. Each night afterward she kept pushing fish at me and insisted I liked my meat medium. On a table that was supposed to be for 8...we ended up with just Shari and I for the rest of the cruise. At a great big table.

BUT, I have decided! Fate is going to give us a totally WONDERFUL server this cruise.

Smiles,

Holly
