December 2024 Check In Thread

Is Storyteller's open on Christmas Eve? It's weird that there aren't any times available Christmas Eve or Christmas Day for Storyteller's or Goofy's. Plenty of availability in the days before and after.

I'm hoping to book breakfast before driving home and the pajama party looks so cute!

As far as I know they are open. But I am not surprised that these days would be booked, as "everyone' wants to do something special for Christmas/Christmas Eve.

Both of these locations are accessible without admission to DL or DCA, and many locals have made these meals part of their holiday traditions.

I’m getting cold feet about our planned December trip. We had a great trip last year, but I was in much better shape physically. Now I’m realizing I probably can’t manage the parks several days in a row. I’m considering buying MKs instead, and spreading our visits out over the year.

What size is your party and what are the ages? One thing I love about my December trip is it's just my sister and me, and we're not trying to do rope drop every day, ride every ride, etc. We just love to be in the atmosphere. A lot of our time is spent chatting in restaurants like Hearthstone, sitting by the fireplace with goodies, visiting Santa in the GCH lobby, and we always plan one major experience to try. Last year it was WOC dessert party, this year Riverbelle Premium Fantasmic package. We've done the Holiday Tour a few times, the Napa Rose Chef's Counter, Afternoon Tea at DLH, and things like that. We love to take our time and just enjoy the decorations and people watching. We do rides, but it's not our main agenda. That might be something to try?

But MKs would definitely be a nice alternative! I have a MK but my sister doesn't and Dec is just our annual "thing" together. We celebrate our birthdays then, too, though mine isn't until later in Jan.

It would just be DH and I, with our adult son maybe joining us one day. That would be the most ride filled day, for sure. DH and I do take it slower, and I love your descriptions of how you and your sister make your visits special. But my insurance hasn’t approved an iron infusion yet, wanting me to try supplements even though the GI doctor explained that I’m not absorbing them, so I am extra exhausted and dizzy. I’ll have to take a walker or rent a wheelchair this year. I guess one thing I could do is keep all 5 nights at GCH, but maybe only go to the parks every other day. I’d have to see if we can change the tickets though, and they are part of the hotel package.

Its hard to give up Christmas and like @DizMe, my Christmas trip is with my sister by choice, my BFF of 55 years (we met in middle school) and we go low and slow most days. We both have stomach issues so we dont eat much at parks. Don't drink either, but we find our joy in remembering all the good times we've shared at Disneyland. Go on our favorite rides likePOTC, HMH, IASWH, and just enjoy the park ambience.

I think a MK is a great idea...i have theBelieve key and mostly go solo. I only go about 3 days at a time. I make about a trip each quarter unless there is a special event i want to go to.

It's hard to enjoy the park when you are dizzy...i have menieres disease and deal with it all the time. You might be better served to get the MK, plan some shorter trips at a less stressful time and enjoy your days when you are feeling better.
Good luck whatever decision you make!

I thought I read it, but can't seem to locate it again. On New Years Eve, I remember the parade times were different than the usual times, does anyone know where that info might be or if that's true?

If you can afford it splurge on an ECV. I swallowed my pride last trip and hired one and I will never do the parks again without one. It allowed me to have so much more fun as I was relaxed and rested, not foot sore and weary. I am able bodied enough to be able to get on and off rides unassisted and as we had LL and roped dropped we didn't wait in lines so I would just park my ECV nearby and do the ride and then use it instead of walking around and to and from the park. It really made a HUGE difference to my energy levels.

More refurbs people:

Just noticed that as well as Big Thunder down the first week of December now the following has been added:

Mon 2 - Thurs 5 Inclusive Casey Junior Railroad and Storybook Land Canalboats

Fri 6th Casey Junior Only

I picked this time of year to avoid refurbs as they usually have everything open for the holiday season so I am pretty bummed about all this.

OMG now there is a special ticketed event at DCA on Wed 4th from 9:00pm to 1:00am. Now I have to think about whether I want to be in that park on that night or not. Had planned to start in DL and then in the evening park hop to DCA to do some rides with LL that I will stack throughout the afternoon. Now I need to rethink if I should change my plans. This is driving me crazy. Why didn't they release all this stuff at the 60 day mark so we could all make dining decisions based on what was happening. I am really tearing my hair out on trying to plan this holiday, it is becoming a nightmare.

I appreciate hearing about your experience with an ECV, and it makes me feel like it the future it will be a good choice. I just cancelled our December trip, there was just too much uncertainty and stress related to my health. We do live close enough that we can reschedule — I’m so sorry to read how much you’ll be impacted by the refurbishments early closure that first week of December (which is when we were going to be there too, and we still might see if we can get one day that week).

Are the desserts different for world of color Christmas then at the regular show?

I don't know, but on the last weekend of WOC One they were still serving treats from Disney 100 which was over a year ago. I hope they updated the desserts.
