Daughter taking Mother on our second Disney cruise together
. I have the greatest daughter in the whole world !

This will be my daughters 4th cruise. My second. I am so excited.
The last cruise we took was on my daughters Birthday two years ago.
She took me for her Birthday.

We will be celebrating together again this time.

How do we sign up for the Fish extender Exchange?
Would love to join in.

Joining this thread, just booked the Dec 11th sailing. Its Dh, ME DS7 and DS2. Do we have a FE list on here?

WELCOME! I will add you two both to the first page! We don't have a FE list yet. We're not the most lively of groups but I will start a list at the 90 day mark..

WOW! I hope my daughters are that fantastic when they get older! What a treat.

Just realized we are EXACTLY 4 months from cruising! :cool1::cool1:

I will start the FE list NOW and maybe it will encite some excitement around here!
On my last cruise I compiled a list of all the interested people and assigned days (I think there were 2-3 each day) so that we all got a little surprise each day of the cruise. Is that how we want to do it this time?
Also, we did a magnet exchange (separate from the FE) where everyone brought magnets that represented where they were from to place on all the doors. It was fun to find new magnets from all over and try to figure out who left it! Do we want to do this too?

So, if you would like to be added to the FE list let me know by PM. I will need your:
1) Name and cruising parties' names (ages for kids)
2) Cabin #
3) cell # (in case of last minute changes in cabins or other info)
4) Where you are from
5) If you are celebrating anything special (ie bday, anniversary, etc)
6) What day/port you want to be assigned.

Some other thoughts to consider- are we going to do cabin gifts (one for the whole cabin) or individual gifts (one for each person in each cabin)?
Do we want to specify adults/kids? Do we want to set a price limit?

And one last thing to consider: a meet. Most of the meets happen just before/after the sail away party but I am game for anything really. Anyone have an opinion about when we can all get together for a photo op and meet/greet?

Do we need a "name" for our cruise? Maybe that would help us feel connected. Any ideas?
I'm thinking something like "Undercover Tourists" since we are so good at hiding our enthusiasm!:lmao:

anyone else dressing for Pirate night? We have in the past but since the cost of luggage has increased and my kids are going to be surprised I have no way to know if they WANT to dress up. I'm thinking of leaving the pirate stuff behind.
Any thoughts?

I am gonna dress the kids up, they will pirates for Halloween too. DH and I will probably do black jeans and a pirate tshirt with bandana

Hello everyone,
I do have a wonderful daughter and hope that your kids return the fun and memorable travels when they are old enough. My first trip to WDW was in Oct. of 1975 and I have enjoyed Disney ever since. Took my DD Susan at least once a year if not more her entire life. She and I enjoy all the same things Disney so we share the same enthusiasm. She now has a home in Celebration. We are DCV members. We are looking forward to this sailing and meeting new friends.

Sign us up for the FE list please.

Tomorrow I can start to book my Palo reservations, excursions online, since I am a Platinum Castaway Club member and my cruise has been paid in full. :thumbsup2

I don't know yet if we are doing any excursions but we like the Palo brunch so I will probably pick a time for that.

Do you know when the Palo reservations open up for everyone else? I think the last time we cruised they limited us to one Palo reservation for the week, is that still the case?

Can't believe it's less than 4 months to go. We decided to add a week at the Animal Kingdom Lodge after the cruise so we could stay through Christmas. Last year we stayed at Disneyland for Christmas and we had a wonderful time.

Also, since our oldest daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan, a stop at the Islands of Adventure is a must.

Palo reservations open at 120 days out for Platinum Castaway Club Members (after your 10th cruise), 105 days out (Aug 28) for Gold Members (after your 5th cruise) and 90 days out (Sept 12) for Silver Members (after your 1st cruise).

I think if you are a first time cruiser it is 75 days but I'm not 100% sure of that:confused3

dont have a stateroom number yet as we are Guarantee status selected..

what does Guarantee status selected mean anyway? should I be concerned

also, any help as to what to do at each port, and how would be appreciated

was thinking at key west-aquarium, butterfly farm, and just walking around, but have no idea as to how far things are from ship

also thinking about turtle farm, but do we do just farm or pay for whole experience there?

then just shopping at other port

Guaranteed means you are guaranteed that catagory room or better (ie catagory 9 guaranteed means you will get a cat 9 or better room).

As far as checking in at the port (it usually opens around 10am) it is all very easy and there are tons of people around to help. Depending on how you are getting there you will either be dropped off or park at the terminal then walk through the security clearance area (think airport security) then up the elevator or escalator to the check in desks. You will be directed by an employee to the next available desk, show them yourt cruise documents, passports, etc and they will process everything (I suggest you fill out your cruise docs on line ahead of time and bring the printouts for confirmation- it's much faster than filling out the ones they mail and you don't have to wait for them to type all your info in).
Once they have checked you all in (maybe 5-10 minutes?) you will be given a boarding # and they usually point out where to register your kids for the clubs (far right side of terminal- to the right of the Mickey Ears entrance). You can register your kids on line also and simply check in at the kids club desk to get their wristbands and a pager for you. (another 5-10 mins). Once this is complete you are free to lounge around or check out all of the fun stuff in the terminal- the mini ship, the characters, the big ship out the window...
They will announce boarding and call boarding numbers. You will see the line and have no problem figuring out where to go to get on. Prior to boarding they welcome you and take a group photom then they will announce your family as you walk onto the ship (my kids' favorite part). My kids like to think of some funny tongue twister about our family to have them announce.
After that it's all up to you! You are free to do as you please on the ship until the muster drill!

Key West is a very pedestrian friendly place- there is the conch train and pedibike cabs all over that can take you anywhere you want to go. We always visit with family there so we don't "see the sights" but we have walked with our kids past the butterfly farm and all the way to the southern point bouy (our youngest turned 4 on our last cruise).

We LOVED Chankanaab and the Dolphin Discovery, even the little ones did (and if you book directly with them, they were free under 8, not sure of the policy now). I can't say enough about Capt Marvin's excursion on Grand Cayman, although the stingrays are like overgrown pigeons and scared the bejesus out of all of my kids.
I'm looking at the turtle farm on our own for this trip because the kids wanted to do that last time and we didn't.

AND I have ruled out the Sea Lion experience at Dolphin Discovery because we went ocean kayaking this week and found out that 2 of the 4 kids are more scared of sea lions than sting rays (picture a curly haired, blond angelic 10 yr old girl floating peacefully through the bay, a cute and unsuspecting sea lion pops his head out of the water 5 feet from her bow and suddenly she turns into a crazed and armed lunatic swatting her paddle aimlessly at the water screaming like a banshee).

:rotfl2: I guess I should have looked harder, or maybe I was in an outdated thread. Hubby and I will be joining ya'll on this cruise. We've only had it booked since June 2009 !!!

Sailing party:
Kitster - aka Vicki (29++)
Corwin17 - aka Stephen (29+)
Stateroom: Category 07, #GTY

We have been lamenting the fact that there were few if any DISer's on our cruise. For our honeymoon 5 years ago, we were on the 11 Nights in Paradise cruise that saw 150 DISboard members in their PJ's for breakfast in Tritons !!! Oh the fun we had with 300 of our closest friends, most of whom we had never met before the sailaway DIS meet.

At Key West, I'm thinking of doing the Snuba excursion while hubby does a sea plane excursion to Dry Tortugas (For some reason he doesn't want me to go with him...it might have to do with his desire to return with all limbs intact. Did I mention I'm terrified of flying in small planes and he has the scars to prove it?)

Grand Cayman will more than likely see us doing the Dolphin Extreme Swim and Turtle Farm excursion with me swimming and him photographing. In Cozumel we're going to take a Discover Scuba class with Eagle Ray Divers. This will fulfill a lifelong dream of mine to scuba in Cozumel !!!

Hubby also wants to know if there will be a resurrection of the grass skirt fraternity for this cruise. For sailaway on the 11 night cruise, all the DIS men dressed in matching t-shirts (DIS green, of course) and grass hula skirts. :rotfl2: Trust me, the blackmail photos were priceless!

Can't wait to meet everyone.

Welcome aboard to the new cruisers:thumbsup2

Kitster, I don't know about this cruise being as wild and crazy for you as your previous one:confused3 but I hope you still enjoy it.

This thread is a bit quieter than previous ones that I have been on too.

I still have contact with DISers from one of my cruises in 2007. We had a great time together too.

Here's to a memorable cruise for all of us:woohoo:
