December 11, 2010 7 Night Western Magic (Part DEUX)

DW and I are cruising with our 2-DD's..would still like to experience Palo and heard the brunch might be the best option

Does anyone have suggestions on which day to do so? we would have the kids in the kids club while we do so

Also, is there any sort of tour of the kitchen, or "bakery" on the ship? my wife makes cakes and it woudl be alot of fun for her to see how they work things

thank you for any details of both that you can provide

We are jumping ship!

When they announced a special for Canadian residents for January and February 2011 cruises, we looked it up and found one perfect for us

So, after being booked for the December 11th cruise for almost a year, we decided to go ahead and mix up our plans :)
We are going on the February 26th sailing of the Magic to the Eastern Caribbean. Not my first choice since I've done this itinerary twice, but still DCL right? :thumbsup2

Have a great time!

Caroline

Since brunch is during the morning hours of the cruise, I don't really think it makes much difference when you do it. Brunch is only served during "at sea" days, not when in port.

There used to be a tour of the galley but I'm not sure if they still do it.

It was adult only and quite interesting.

You won't really get to see any live action because the kitchens are always totally clean and not being used at the time that you go on the tour. Except for one part where we all received freshly baked chocolate chip cookies:thumbsup2

Very interesting to see and the information that you receive from your tour guide is also a lot of fun.

Tanooki, I looked up the prices on those special cruises for Canadian residents and they are quite good. I'm not willing to jump ship at this time though because this is the time that my grown children can come along.

I might seriously consider booking one of those other cruises though for my husband and myself ;)

Enjoy your new cruise.

Cruisin', just to let you know, we aren't all that wild and crazy, we just like to have fun when we cruise. The first three Disney cruises we went on were pin trading event cruises.......not fun. We felt like we were tied to the ship all day long and even though we knew a lot of fellow pin traders, people just weren't 'friendly'. Our dinner table partners seldom bothered to show up for dinner and when they did they were, at best, silent partners.

Our 4th Disney cruise was our 'honeymoon' cruise (almost a year after we got married, but we knew it was going to be delayed before we got married). It was the first ever 11 night cruise on the Wonder and we had a wonderful time with all the DISboard members we met. I honestly don't remember a single excursion we went on that wasn't composed of mostly DISer's !!! Our dinner partners were a bunch of wonderful, happy people who loved to laugh and joke around with our server (Anel) and with our head server (who has since moved into a position as concierge for a hotel in Europe). I know my DH is hoping to have a similar experience on this cruise in Dec. If we can meet some fellow DISer's who like to have 'fun', that will be great.

All I know is this......Dec. will be our first time ever on the Magic, so we won't be on 'our' ship. No Christian (CM), no Hollywood (CM), no Anel (now a head server on the Wonder), no Barbara (CM).........you get the idea. I guess we'll just have to explore the unknown ;-)

I agree about the cruising with fellow DISer's.

My most favourite cruise ever was taken with a group of DISers:goodvibes

I've also been on others where I hardly ever saw any of the DISers, so it's just who you happen to get onboard with I suppose.

This is our 13th Disney Cruise but only our 3rd time on the Magic. You will find that the Magic is so very similar to the Wonder that you will feel at home on "your" ship quite quickly. Other than a bit of decorating difference, the ships are virtually the same.

I don't know the CM's you are refering to on the Wonder but we've met some special cast members in the past. Our last cruise, January of this year, I got to know Pikey (CM in the adult clubs) quite well. He was great fun but I believe that he has left the ship now too.

Kitster, I think the foundation for having a great cruise with fellow DISer's starts right here.

If you can get a good group started with chatting here then it makes a world of difference when you get onboard.

It is nice to have that DISmeet quite close to the beginning of the cruise, so that everyone can get to meet in person.

It's always nice to see some familiar faces around the ship :)

Its almost the 100 day mark!!:yay:
I have been working on my fe gifts and am really excited! Hopefully everyone will like them.We originally booked a gty 6, but changed to a cat 9 and received our room #. Still hoping for some pixie dust for an upgrade, but will be happy with the room we got.The cruise is now paid in full and my daughter and I are counting down the days! :woohoo:

Wooohoooo. We were able to book 1 Palo brunch :thumbsup2 , Snuba for me and Stephen's half-day sea plane excursion to Dry Tortugas in Key West, Dolphin Extreme in Grand Cayman and the Jetskis in Castaway Cay :cool1: Now to try scuba next month at our local Sports Chalet to see if DH will be able to do it and we'll be ready to book a resort course scuba trip for Cozumel. That is if we don't take the course in Orlando before the cruise so we can do 2 supervised dives in Cozumel....decisions, decisions.

Dec 12 - Key West - Vicki doing Snuba thru DCL (subject to change if I complete a scuba class prior to vacation); Stephen excursion to Dry Tortugas
Dec 13 - day @ sea - ?????
Dec 14 - Grand Cayman - both doing Dolphin Extreme Swim and Turtle Farm thru DCL
Dec 15 - Cozumel - Eagle Ray Divers resort course ?
Dec 16 - day @ sea - Palo brunch
Dec 17 - Castaway Cay (and DH BD) - morning jet ski, afternoon snorkel, evening ?????

I've been trying to get my daughter booked into Palo brunch but it keeps timing out on me:headache:

It gets all the way to the end and then says the session has expired.

How very annoying.

I'm trying to get us all booked into brunch at the same time but, it's hard to co-ordinate all these reservations when everybody is at a different Castaway Club level and therefore have different windows of opportunity for booking things.

But I'm sure that it will all work out in the end.

Juls, we still have no cabin number assigned but then I wasn't really expecting to see one until much closer to the sailing date.

We are all booked into Cat 11 GTY's.

Hi, all! Just dropping in to introduce myself ... I'm Kitster's hubby! :scared1:

Yesterday, she managed to corner me into working out what we want to do on board the cruise. I'm so glad I married her , because if it were left up to me, I swear we'd board the ship and I would say, "So. What do you want to do?" :confused3

I'm very much looking forward to everything on this trip ... lots of stuff to do, lots of people to meet, and lots of fun to be had! :woohoo:

1st time cruisers and 1st time posting. DW and DH booked on the Dec. 11 Western Car. intinerary with DS4 and DD4. The FE sounds fun, what's the scoop with that and how does it work. Pardon the cruise "newbie" question?

Welcome aboard. Sounds like you both really enjoyed your first cruise. I hope you have just as much fun on this one:thumbsup2

Welcome aboard to you too.

FE is shortform for fish extender. There is a metal fish on the wall outside your cabin door. It is used for the crew to leave messages etc for you. I don't see them used an awful lot except mainly for the children's/teen clubs messages.

Anyway........... DISers like to make what is called Fish Extenders which hang on the fish. You sign up and everyone brings little gifts and deposits them into each others fish extenders.

Just small things...... sometimes things from your home area, or something you think people would like to have while onboard :confused3

It is fun to come back to your cabin and discover what surprises await you in your fish extender.

I have a question also about the fish extenders?

Can I ask how many people are currently signed up for this exchange:confused3

Cruisin, I was wondering the same thing.
It would be great to have an estimate on how many people are signed up.:)

Yes it is great fun to do the fish extenders. Unfortunately the fish extender stuff can take up a lot of space in a suitcase.

It takes some careful planning, depending on the size of the group involved.

I have only done it once in all of my 12 Disney Cruises. I really enjoyed coming back to my cabin and finding all the neat little surprises that were waiting there for me:goodvibes

Oh yeah, I finally got my daughter's Palo brunch reservation to go thru:thumbsup2

Only took about 4 hours of trying to finally get it accomplished :rotfl:

So glad you finally got through!:thumbsup2
I'm still trying to figure out if my husband and I should go to Palo for brunch or dinner , and what day we should try and book.:confused3

Brunch and dinner are both nice but we prefer the brunch.

Dear, you REALLY need to update your Sig. HOW many times have we been to WDW since 2006? I'm not sure even you remember at this point ;-)
