…please refrain from being snippy and condescending to clients. We are paying a lot of money to buy a contract through you, and we deserve to be treated with a modicum of respect if we ask ONE question. Rest assured that we do have a choice of brokers. Two brokers have now been crossed off my list for my next purchase. 😒

I have a couple crossed off my list as well as one that, if all things were equal, I would choose to work with every time.

I think sharing the broker and the negative experience would be helpful for other board users, if you don't mind.

I am sorry that you have had negative experiences. I do want to remind everyone that you are welcome to share information about another business but you must simply post the link (which actually works to get you to the website).

Please do not say things like" I cant talk about them, or they are blocked, etc." because that is seen as a way to guide people, or use names, etc.

If you post the link, and it is blocked, that means the filter did its job.

While I would like to see those stories, I can also see how that could be a problem for the board.

As Sandi says, just post the link - following the rules - and if it is one that is not filtered out then we'll know who they are.

And Sandi will quickly tell me (again) if I have transgressed. :duck:

https://*******.com is one. I know she is highly touted by many on facebook, but my personal experience was not great. The other one I am still working with. The one I would go back to anytime is dvcresalemarket.com. As with anything, your mileage may vary.

It does beg the question; what question did you ask?
This last incident - I am in ROFR, and it’s been 30 days as I see others flying through. So I asked very nicely whether mine could be checked on. In response I received a cut/paste of a line from their standard letter that states disney takes 30-45 days. No greeting - no nothing else. I thought this was rude. Am I wrong?

I experienced the same thing! Will say the sponsors of this board were amazing.

Personally, that would not bother me....

I think it's kind of crappy that they weren't willing to check on it for you. But....I'm new to all of this so maybe that's common?

Out of curiosity, is the sponsor basically the only resale site that we're allowed to mention? I've noticed that all others I see talked about are censored out. Maybe it's just that I never see mentions of the other ones that are allowed though.

That depends. I have no idea what it would entail to check on it. Could be they are in the same waiting game you are and there is nothing to check on. They absolutely could have been more tactful.

The decisions regarding businesses on this site has nothing to do with being a sponsor. So, there are plenty of businesses out there that can be discussed.

That is why the board requires you to post the link (and one that works) because then the filter does its job. When people use the names, etc...or clues, it violates the rules of this board.

Now, there are sites, like the board sponsor, that we mods know are not in the board's filter and so we do allow posts to stay if those links are not used, but things can change and I have been caught naming a business vs. the link and found out later it should not have been discussed.

Best advice is post the link! But, here are the official rules just in case anyone wants them again!

I actually backed out of a contract for a pretty good price due to being made to feel rather "small".

In reading all the posts here over the last several weeks and ROFR passing so quickly, I failed to really think about how closing time could possibly drag on. After signing the contract, I received the standard process email from the broker which quoted the standard closing timeline...and I suddenly realized we'd be closing very close to the banking deadline. I emailed the broker to ask that the seller bank the current year points....the response was curt and indicated this couldn't be done without redoing all the contracts as they had already been sent to Disney for ROFR. No offer to sort it out, nothing. So I responded asking for confirmation that this necessitated revising the contracts (I have purchased resale in the past years ago and there was no mention of whether points were banked or still sat in their original use year) and asked if so, to please make the necessary contract changes. The response "...it's a lot of paperwork to start over...but I'll check with the seller" to see if they are "willing". After sleeping on it (and not getting a further response by the next day) I emailed not to bother and sent my cancellation notice.

The broker indicated surprise and no intention to be difficult, so perhaps it was a misunderstanding on both sides. Bottom line though, I felt like I had done something wrong and unreasonable and just decided proceeding didn't make sense.

I used to think this way, but in the end you're only hurting yourself by limiting the universe of contracts you're bidding on. There was one broker that made some unnecessary comments about my offer, but she still presented it and the seller didn't want to negotiate. A month or so later, another contract popped up on the same site, and I made the same lowball offer and it was accepted! I agree that the brokers could be less snippy about these kinds of things, but at the end of the day I'm not trying to be their friend or anything, I'm just trying to get a good deal. If they want to be petty, no harm/no foul and move on to the next contract. As long as they're presenting offers and administering the process in the correct way, then I'm happy. That to me is more important than a broker's bad e-mail etiquette (although I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't annoy me).

I know we all get antsy about things like this (myself absolutely included), but quite frankly if you are asking about things that are within the expected timeframe it's you being the rude party, not them.

Every time I'm in a situation like this, I try to remind myself that the other person may be under a bunch of stress that I don't know about, or even something as simple as just skipped lunch. Right now, it's probably not a lot of fun being a DVC Broker, because there seems to be a wide gap between buyers and sellers, and the Broker is probably being yelled at by someone over something that they can't control.

That doesn't change the fact that we should expect polite professionalism. We should. And if this is something I was doing regularly (for example, if I had a side hustle stripping/flipping contracts) I would definitely try to stick with brokers that tended to treat me better. But, for a once-every-few-years thing, I'm willing to overlook the occasional slight.
