"Dear Amy"

Everyone's allowed to have their own opinion; theres no right or wrong in an opinion. It's like the whole "Is God real or is he not" argument, noone is ever gonna "cave in".

I do however, disagree with pigletgirl's view. I think that you are born a certain way, and some people are just attracted to certain types of people, wether thats gender or hair colour; it's not a huge deal.

I saw earlier that you guys think the whole gay/lesbian thing is more accepted in Europe? I don't know if this is the case in the rest of Europe, but people are judged like crazy in Britain and you hear really horrible stories of abuse because of homosexuality quite often.

My bible actually says 'God hates gays.'
I read it, and chucked back in my drawer of things I never look at.

Oh my goodness!!

Wow. I wonder, do they teach this...stuff (light word for it)...in CCD/Sunday School? (I never went to either)

from what i remember, yes.
at least the church i went to did, idk about others.

heck, some churchs will go up to little children and say 'if you don't do exactly as god says, youre going to hell'.
if heard that story more than once.

No one can ever win this argument.
And I always get killed for screaming at people :D

We can argue all we want but it comes down to our beliefs and how we were raised. I just cant tolerate other peoples opinions :lmao:

Thats whats wrong with me. haha. :P

I think that no matter what your opinion is, there will always be someone that disagrees with you, and you should not allow yourself to get so worked up about it. Let other people have their beliefs, and you have yours, even if you disagree. By getting worked up about others' views, you just make yourself look ignorant too. You can live with differing opinions in the world; that's what makes it great. Everyone's entitled to their own thoughts.

Also, PigletGurl, your argument does not make sense. You say, "it's a choice". But then, "babies can't think" ...so how do you choose if you can't think?

being gay or straight is not a choice, just like whether or not you like certain foods its not something you can change. and the fact is, if most people on the world had been born gay, straights would probably we bashed too. and the fact that the bible was translated, makes it so that the fact that god said gays woud go to hell isnt very stable. different people can take one statement and look at it different ways. just like different translators could look at one thing and see it as something different then another translator. and beside that it is very rare to find someone who is completely straight. darn near impossible actually. most people dont only like the opposite sex.

I hated Sunday School...
But we did nothing but color pictures of Jesus.
And when I was 4, I didn't understand the concept. I just knew I colored him.

LOL!

Mom: What did you do in Sunday School today, sweetie?
Kid: I colored pictures of Jesus!

That "David" fellow is a loser.
Frankly, my dear, I wouldn't give a damn about what losers like that say.

Though it surely is maddening to know that we're in the same species as that neanderthal.

Also, I love Sunday School! My priest is gay, and we have that box of questions about religion, and we discuss our opinions.

Edit again: I looked in my Bible's Leviticus, and it said nothing about homosexuality. It said stuff about not getting jiggy with your mother though XD

On the topic of Sunday Schools, I found a joke in a humour book I have.

9-yr-old Joey was asked by his mother what he learnt in Sunday School.

"well Mum, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had his engineers build a pontoon bridge, and all the people walked across safely. Then he used his walkie-talkie to radio headquarters and call in an air strike. They sent in bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."

"Now Joey, is that REALLY what your teacher taught you?" his mother asked.

"Well, no Mum. But if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it."

Wow.
So i'm eternally damned?
Well what a way to brighten my day.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, sexual harrsement isn't correct regardless, love is love. You get my direction right?

Noooo, it's not.

Would YOU choose to be harrassed?

Every. Freaking. Day?

Did you know that gay teens are in a very high suicide rate?

Exactly.

Sonya's right. Babies don't know much of anything. It's...just the way it is.

I didn't wake up one morning and go "hey, I think I'll be bi today" and wake up the next morning and go "nahh, I'm straight again".

Where's Reid? Maybe he can put some imput in, or Jenny.

I choose to be made fun of every day. By at least one person. For being a Christian. Does that mean i'm going to be suicidal? If you're really firm in your belief that being gay is alright, then it shouldn't matter what others think. Just... my 2 cents.

I tolerate your view. By tolerate, I mean I can understand why you think that way, because that's what you've been raised to think.

I just don't understand how you can ignore scientific evidence that disproves what you're saying.

Not necissarily (sp?) Once you're old enough to reason, you don't have to have been raised that way to think what you do. She's old enough to make her own decisions about gays, God and etc.

First of all, that's a really horrible comparison. If you're saying gay or straight is not a choice just like foods... well if I didn't like a certain food I could add spices to it to make it more to my liking or I could add something to it. You can't do that with people.

So, you're saying if Tyra Banks wrote a book and it was translated into African it wouldn't be the same book? Is that what you're saying about the bible? God wrote a book (through people) and then people translated it, so it doesn't say the same thing anymore? That's screwy logic too if you ask me.

Wow, I love how accepting you are of other peoples' beliefs. (end sarcasm)

I'm sure it said something. Probably around Leviticus 18:22...where it is in every other bible. And there's a few other verses. I mentioned them on the other homosexuality thread.

i liken it to the game telephone. the sentence starts as billys got an oreo cakester - to bobbys got his first chesthair. thru so many translations somethings bound to get messed up.

That's completely true, I overlooked that.

But Katie, this is NOT a personal attack, I'm seriously just trying to understand how you think about this, do you choose to be straight?
Like, could you wake up tomorrow and say, hmm, I'm gonna be attracted to girls now?

I'm seriously not trying to be condescending and I'm sorry if it came off that way, I'm just trying to understand.

true true. nothing in the world may change your opinion because yer parents filled your head with bible quotes and lies.

it's aiiight.

I have to disagree. And even so, it's not always the parents that introduce children to the bible. For all you know, a kid could have studied the bible himself! Even though this is irrelevant to the topic, I thought I'd point that out. And I invite you, to fully read the whole entire bible. The whole thing.

Oh, and the Bible Belt scares me, too.

And I live in suburban/rural North Carolina. Instead of a Starbucks on every corner, we have a church on every corner ::yes::

What's wrong with that?

Your mom.

Your very mature. :(

That's true, but most of what you know and believe in comes from your experience as an infant.

If an infant is exposed to Judism, they're going to believe in Judism.
If they're exposed to Christianity, they're going to most likely be Christian.

Some things are naturally in their heads, of course.

If they're hungry, they're going to find ways to get attention to get food. They don't know anything except for the fact that they have a weird feeling around their midsection.

So if the infant is exposed to certain beliefs, then why wouldn't it be impacted? Sure it could change it's beliefs later on, but with the evidence the parent/guardian gives it from that certain belief, why would it have reason to?

And isn't God and Jesus supposed to love all their creations? Why would they even create gays if it was supposed to be opposed?

I am Michelle, and I boohoo gay hatrid. Whether I'm damned to Hell for it (as some say) or not.
