DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Tonga toast and maple sausage. It’s what’s for breakfast.

Okay, that sounds good, but mustard???

Hmmm... it's on Disney+ or something. Pretty sure I've seen it somewhere. Maybe I should take a look, then.
I've just about finished bingeing all of House, so...

LOST features some good sci-fi work, and some great writing/acting/characters. The back end of season 3 through season 5 features some huge twists that are really fun. But the final season, season 6, is really disappointing and the ending is bad. So you have to know that going in.

Youngest dd made it to HS tennis state championships with a win tonight. Only girl to make it on the team.

Congrats to DD! That's awesome.

Day two of chilling on the coast.
Nothing to report...

And that's a good thing.

Carry on, then.

Hey guys, just checking in after the weekend. Another dance competition in the books. Of DDs seven dances, she got top marks in two and second highest in three. But they were the team dances with a dozen of so others. Her duet, where she obviously features more prominently, was her lowest score so she was a bit upset about that. Competition is never easy. Rewarding with good results, but tough when the results aren’t what she hopes. I keep trying to tell her it’s about the experience not the trophy. But hard for a 13 year old to accept.

Thanks for all the kind words for my wife. Having the dance competition was a good distraction for her. Her uncle was already cremated and a memorial will be on Thursday. She’ll have a rough day then I expect but hopefully will get a bit easier as the days go by.

But of course. You can't eat sausages without mustard!
This should be a dad rule.

I've heard about the awful ending, which has kept me from watching. But I think (once I'm done with House) I'll give it a shot. :)

And you survived? <slow clap>

Good for her! Too bad about the duet.
Out of curiousity, what competition was it?

A super awesome day. Youngest dd made it to the Region finals. She lost, but still, runner-up in the Region is great. To put it in perspective, there are only 16 regions in KY. Super proud dad moment. 3 local college tennis coaches present and I talked with all of them, which is even better news.

Congrats to your DD and good luck tomorrow.

Thanks.

Congrats to her!

Thanks.

Dude. You can let that go now.

Why? It still works. I usually wake up before it goes off, but I set it every night.

Morning, Gents! How are things going? Things are well with me. Had a beautiful weekend here on the land of Cape Cod, so spent it outdoors as much as possible. Got some gardening done and even challenged the DD to a game of mini-golf. I love spring and summer. Working 4-10's this week, so heading out early each day. I'll try and get caught up with everyone's post after work. Hope everyone has a great day. See ya!

How are you liking the 4-10s?

That sounds great.

Congrats to DD!!!!
:woohoo:

Umm...that's funny and disturbing at the same time. ;)

I hoard ammo. DW hoards cake decorating supplies and craft stuff. I ask you, when the feces hits the oscillating rotator, which hoard is more useful. :lmao:

Thanks.

I hoard things like my tax records, digital photos, and stuff I purchased because I feel like I might use it some time in the future.

I have a decent amount of ammo, but I have fun shooting it as opposed to just hoarding it. If I'm allowed to travel down in the future, I'll pack my guns and ammo and we can go shooting. You have the land? Or a range?

It's tough dealing with your kid and a competition loss. Even worse when you're the coach too.

I completely get your wife. The distraction is great in a way. Eventually, we will deal with the grief.

You're still using it... that's different. I thought it was sitting on a dusty shelf in the garage or something.

And congrats to your DD and definitely a proud papa moment. :)

Some sausages (brats, kielbasa, smoked sausage) I'd agree. Maple sausage, not so sure on that one.

I'm confused. I thought you said she made it to state. It's been a long time, but I thouht it was
district->regionals->state. In other words, if she made it to state, wasn't it a regional win than got her there?
Regardless, still a great feat and congratulations.
Talked to the tennis coaches for her or for you? It would be more cool if both.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy shooting it too...I'm just trying to stockpile before it gets so insanely expensive or impossible to find.

Have a couple options for ranges. Yes, I have land and I've found out with a local builder I can get dump truck loads of dirt for $135 a load. I figure 3 loads at my back fence will make a great berm. Then, won't have to pay range fees. My property backs up to woods, so probably not necessary, but err on the side of caution/safety.

My neighbor(only one) said he'd go in with me on it...he's a retired police officer, so I don't have to worry about the neighbor complaining. ;)

Morning, Gents! Been a busy week. For the last two days I've been pulled away from my regular schedule to be sent somewhere else because people have been out. Hopefully today I can stick to my normal schedule....but we'll see. Well, that's it. Woke up late and gotta get breakfast and head out. See ya!

Had a fun time at the Orioles game in Baltimore last night, even though the game itself was a blowout. Randall must have heard I was coming, since he cleared out and fled to Florida a few days ago.

Well, most of us learn through failure. That's how you get better. Hard to convince your kids of that, though.

I would encourage you to give Lost a try. The first 4-5 seasons are really good, if you enjoy a sci-fi/suspense/mystery. Season 6 is not that terrible, and it does answer a lot of questions. It’s really just the very last show that’s a let down.

Out of curiousity, what competition was it?
Wanna Dance. I think they are out of Alberta. Judges came 14 days early for quarantine. It must have cost them a fair bit for the hotel rooms.

Good deal. For my interest, since sports scholarships really aren’t a thing at Canadian universities, could that lead to a tennis scholarship at college for your DD?

I have only seen two MLB games in person. I would love to see another.
I’m looking forward to when the Orioles play the Blue Jays…might be a couple easy wins for the Jays 😀
For some reason I was thinking you were a Phillies fan?
I also enjoyed their series this past weekend with the Blue Jays (looking for broom emoji, don’t think there is one) ⚾

There are 16 regions for tennis, so they take more than just the winner. Otherwise, it would be a really short state tournament. Coaches talked to both of us about her going to their schools. I said they needed to show me the money.

That's good to know about your neighbor. I have a range here that's fairly cheap, or I can go to my FIL's, and possibly may be able to buy back my grandfather's land where I could go.

I try to keep enough ammo for a zombie apocalypse or more likely, a government lie/ media spin. It was slim pickings here for awhile, but ammo is back in the stores now, with limits up to 5 boxes.

She should get money for a Division 2 university. She's not good enough for Div 1. She would have to immensely improve over the summer, which may be possible, but probably not a scholarship player at D1. Still, between tennis and her grades, it should be covered.

Like I said, I don't regret my time watching it. I would say the final episode makes the last season worse in retrospect, though.

So Delaware is kind of a border state between loyalty to Philadelphia sports and loyalty to the Baltimore/Washington DC area. (We also have the bandwagon Dallas fans that pop up who have never set foot in Texas, but that's a different animal). I've always been a Philadelphia fan foremost, as that is how I was raised by my Philly-area parents. But with the Orioles in the American League, there's generally no conflict of interest in cheering for them and the Phillies in the National League. The only time it mattered was when they played each other in the 1983 World Series, and I threw my loyalties in with the Phillies in that one.

Baltimore won the Series. :sad2:

Anyway, I still have a soft spot for the O's as my AL team. And my oldest son is a huge baseball fan and wants to visit every stadium in the major leagues, so we like traveling around and visiting.

I do recall hearing him say he had to get out of town before...

But I thought he said captian obvious not oblivious.

Tomato, To-mah-to.

I've never been to a MLB game. Would like to at least once before I kick off, but I don't think I'd go so far as to say it's a bucket list item.

Smart move!

I mean... Oh, that's too bad you couldn't meet up.

That's what I hear. Will give it a go. :)

Never heard of that one. There's so many, it seems. And yeah... 14 days of extra hotel bills... shows how much money is in these things.

There are more around that you realize, they are usually not called athletic scholarships though.

Morning, Gents! Man, I'm behind on reading posts. This week's been a tough week. I've been working 10 hour days this week, which means my day starts earlier, so not a lot of time to go through the posts here on the dad's forum. Yesterday, like the whole week, was a 10 hour day. But, I spent the day at the main office working in the Fax Dept., where I started, so it was an easy day. Because I was 1 of 3 people in the whole area, I plugged in my headphones and listened to podcasts and music for most of the day, love being able to do that. I got lucky with the schedule this week and got tomorrow off, so that'll make 2-3 day weekends in a row, even though I'll have to work a full week next week, be it 4-10's or 5-8's.

TTFN

How are you liking the 4-10s?

I like the 4-10's because there's a random day off in the middle of the week somewhere, or, like this week, a long 3 day weekend. I got lucky with the schedule and got Friday off. The only problem I have with 4-10's is that if I'm at a slow office time slows down. I'd much rather be busy and constantly moving than sitting and not doing anything. How about you, do you like 4-10's?

Morning all. I really have enjoyed this week off from work. I forgot what it was like.

Made another run to the giveaway store to get rid of the rest of the hoard, just in time for the realtor today. We still have a hoard, but maybe now it is just a normal hoard. :lmao:

The good news is that we are in a super hot market, with only one other house in our subdivision for sale. And, we are on the growing side of town in a top school district. It should sell quickly, but the issue is "as is" vs renovate/update. And, if we update, then who is doing the work.

I won't be on 10s until June. And then, it may be 3 days a week. I like the idea, as like you said, the extra day off a week is great. For us, the extra start time is nice to be able to review charts. It's the hour at the end of the day, which was a deal breaker, with coaching HS tennis.

I'm going to stay PRN for awhile to see how many hours I get and whether or not I like it. If I don't get enough hours, then I may have to consider returning to full time.
