DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning guys.
I could use a few positive thoughts and prayers if you are so inclined. My wife’s uncle passed away suddenly last night. Massive heart attack, he was only 62. Wife is having a hard time with it. Aside from her father and (on most days, I guess) me, her uncle was the most important man in her life. She lived with him for a couple years during university and he helped her though a rough time back then. She’s particularly feeling a lot of guilt for not seeing him much over the last year. It sucks.
Reminds me to enjoy every day as much as you can.
Have a good one guys.
Condolences and prayers brother.

That too.
I'm almost positive that my quote predates MIB... but I can't find the reference. I could be wrong, too.

And yet... it's a step in the right direction, I think?

Whether you think it's silly or smart, wise or foolish, a giant hoax or a valid concern... anything that gets us back to normal, would be a good thing, no?

Are we getting back to normal? There was mass panic, churches, schools, & businesses closed, medical care denied, and trillions added more in debt. People died, isolated and alone from their families. Many of these actions were not science based. That's my point. People believe what they are told, and go hoard gasoline in plastic bags. Instead of fixing the actual problem, it's just being swept under the rug until another crisis can be re-invented to advance political gain.

I guess what I was trying to say is that loosening mask restrictions, whether you believe it to be science based, conspiracy based, politically based or what have you, is a step in a the right direction? Or maybe you feel that it's merely a step in a different direction, or not. I don't know! I ain't you, dude. :)

Morning fellas from a murky and drizzly London. We went up west yesterday, and had a mooch around. Had some fantastic Chinese food in Chinatown, all the restaurants have put up marquees outside. The boy is on a Manga mission, so I took him to one of London's biggest Comic Book stores, so that's 60 sovs that I won't see again.
Took a stroll around Covent Garden, and through Trafalgar Square. We normally avoid all this stuff like the plague (sorry for the pun) but there are no tourists, so it still feels really quiet. Sushi today for dinner, so we have taken a Asian tour this weekend with Curry on Friday (an English staple), Dim Sum on Saturday and Sushi on Sunday.

On a more hopeful note, we booked up the Chicago trip, so just waiting to see what our glorious overlords decide what we can do. The Cubs are at Wrigley that week (I can't imagine how that happened) so we'll try and get that onto the agenda, if they open tickets to the Hoi poloi.

Anyways, that's more than enough random East End phrases to chuck around so,

Have a good 'un, me old Chinas.

Morning, gents.

half an hour till I'm off for 3 days. Have some cedar to powerwash and hopefully sell. Just a few boards. Hoping to buy a yacht or business jet with the proceeds.

With the lack of tourists... everywhere... it's a good time to be a local tourist. We're still in a wave of infections, but hopefully soon as vaccinations ramp up we can get out and about.

Morning Gents.

Nice day here today, plan in helping the FIL rebuild his deck and a little soccer later tonight. Hike to a waterfall yesterday and had another good chat with the guys on Zoom into the wee hours of the morning.

Have a great Sunday all. Safe travels Randall, say hello to Mike and Kevin for us.

Looking forward to this week. My first week off since starting the new job in February. Youngest dd won her matches Saturday and is in the quarterfinals. She will have 2 matches tomorrow, weather permitting, and if she wins the first, she gets a spot for state championships. This is the closest she has been in her short career.

Next weekend is another match for me for state team tennis. I'm playing over 18 league since they needed someone. I'm not sure why I do this to myself. Ended up drinking pickle juice after cramping up from the last match.

The new house is progressing. The good news was that we got it cheaper since all the materials were ordered. The bad news is that the house will be ready in August. Been working thru the hoard in our current house. There is still a lot more to go through and get it ready to sell.

Then, there is the job. I really like it and even better, like the money. If I were to return to full time, the new schedule is 4 days, 10 hour shifts, a week. So, I'll get 3 days off a week. But, if I went back to full time, then I wouldn't be around for tennis. I may make some money at tennis, but maybe not as much at the hospital.

We modified for a 2 BR booked at SSR now for December. Oldest dd has a new boyfriend, and they seem to be getting more serious. So, we invited him. Since we would bring him, we let younger dd bring a friend as well. It's a new phase in life.

Not sure I have worked thru my dad dying yet, as everything had just been incredibly busy. Eventually, things may slow down enough, although I'm not sure I want that.

Have a great week everyone.

It's dangerous to be in my head. :lmao:

I hope we are returning to normal, and felt we should have been doing so for quite some time now. Sadly, I think we are just moving to the next fake distraction crisis while many will still be wearing masks at work.

Pssst, I am driving to Disney. :car:

Great plan. Have a great trip.

That one has come to mind quite a bit over the years.

Ahhhhh...
That 'splains it.

Watched a little bit of the first episode, decided that they were just stranded in something like a purgatory, and never watched it again.

I really enjoyed that show. The last season was a mess, so everyone remembers a terrible ending, but I don't regret having watched it.

Oh, man. I'm so sorry, Jeff. Hang in there and stay close to your wife.

There are definitely some advantages to be had with lower crowds.

I remember tickets for Cubs games being ridiculously expensive when I looked into it. We ended up doing a tour of the stadium to save some money.

Definitely. Went to a baseball game a few weeks ago, and I've never had an easier time dealing with traffic in and out of the stadium.

Been working thru the hoard in our current house. There is still a lot more to go through and get it ready to sell.

The threat of having to pack and/or purge unnecessary junk is enough to keep me from even thinking about moving again for a long time.

Morning.

Soccer last night, 2-0 loss, good beer after.

Some more deck work today, shifts are short when you are working with a FIL that is pushing 78.

Have a good one.

Hmmm... it's on Disney+ or something. Pretty sure I've seen it somewhere. Maybe I should take a look, then.
I've just about finished bingeing all of House, so...

Silver linings.

That last part is all that really matters.

Youngest dd made it to HS tennis state championships with a win tonight. Only girl to make it on the team. One of the boys doubles team earned a spot as well. She plays semi-finals tomorrow.

Yeah, that boat sailed. Sadly, we both hoard, but different hoards. I keep things in the thought I may use it one day and don't want to spend the money to buy something new. I still have my alarm clock from when I lived with my parents 30+ years ago.

Congrats to your DD and good luck tomorrow.

Morning, Gents! How are things going? Things are well with me. Had a beautiful weekend here on the land of Cape Cod, so spent it outdoors as much as possible. Got some gardening done and even challenged the DD to a game of mini-golf. I love spring and summer. Working 4-10's this week, so heading out early each day. I'll try and get caught up with everyone's post after work. Hope everyone has a great day. See ya!

Congrats to DD!!!!
:woohoo:

Umm...that's funny and disturbing at the same time. ;)

I hoard ammo. DW hoards cake decorating supplies and craft stuff. I ask you, when the feces hits the oscillating rotator, which hoard is more useful. :lmao:
