DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Morning, boys.

Cold out there. I'm a bit annoyed. Kid's car has a brand new battery and she had it plugged in, but it still didn't start. Funny... I was looking at a battery blanket the other day and thinking about maybe she should have one, for these extreme temps (it was -34C/-29F), but then thought she'd plug that in when it was warm (ish... like around the freezing temp) for no reason. She's like that.
Well... guess I'll get it and talk to her about it. Or vice versa.

DW is going for surgery on her back tomorrow. Have to be there at 0545. If you're the praying type, prayers very much appreciated
Tell Coni I'm thinking about her.
Keep us posted, okay?
Pipes just unfroze. Had 5 space heaters on it for 13 hours!
Phew! Good news.

Well, that's annoying.

But then again, I don't think I would start well in those temps, either.

Hey, Gents! All's well in my little neck of the world. Hope all is well with everyone. Well, that's all I've got, everyone. Have a good day, and we'll chat later.

An ice storm had closed Kentucky, or at least my part of it. The hospital doesn't close though. I didn't have any trouble driving in with the truck, but 4x4 still only gets you so far on ice.

Ice storms are nasty buggers. I think I'd rather drive in a blizzard than on roads right after an ice storm.

Sorry to hear it man. Still, keep hope alive on that Disney fund.

Thanks, and I'm planning on keeping that Disney fund alive. That dream won't die, man.

We had ours pumped by the previous owner before buying the house. It cost $75. I plan on doing it annually...$75 (or even $100) a year is worth the peace of mind and protecting my investment.

Ours was $275 for the first 1k gallons, and .20 for every gallon after. Not bad considering they came at the end of the day.

I'm glad to hear that. I'm not trying to be a fear monger...it's genuine concern for what may happen if you don't.

We are considering it, but we have to get quotes. Our tank is original to the house, and as far as I know it's in good condition, at least that's what last guy said when we had it pumped 8 years ago. However, things could have changed.

Unless you guys have a really small tank or some kind of bodily problem, once a year is a bit of overkill.

True, but right now our leaching field is shot, so pumping it every year is a good thing to keep us going until we fix things.

I think they recommend every 3-5 years.

Until we get this taken care of it'll be every year, remember, our leaching field is essentially shot, so we'll need it pumped frequently until we get it fixed. That said, after we get things fixed it'll be every 2-3 years...just to be safe.

$75 is extremely cheap! Mine cost $626 but I have a 2000 gallon tank.

Well pipes are still frozen. Boiler is running luckily

Woohoo! That's awesome! So happy for you. I'm paranoid when it comes to frozen pipes, so when it gets to the single digits I let the water drip in the faucets during the night. Since we're home all day I don't worry about dripping it during the day.

I worked installing septic systems for many years and not pumping the tank at regular intervals is the leading cause of system failures. The time between pumping the tank can vary on tank size and number of people using the system, but in general a system with a 500 gallon tank and a family of four using the system should be pumped every 3-4 years. The new regulations here in NB the minimum tank size is now 750gal.and leaching fields have increased about 20 % in size. Here depending on ground conditions a new system can cost between 7 to 15k definitely a major investment. It cost about 300 to pump a tank here, at Doc's price I'd pump every year.

It seems I'm not the only one who's done this. I hear there are, don't want to say a ton of people, but I more people than not who forget to have it pumped. I'm now one of them....sad to say.

On a totally different note...

I said a prayer for your wife and the Dr.'s this morning, my friend. Hope all goes well.

Woohoo! :banana::dancer:

I wouldn't want to work in that cold either.

Must admit. I don't feel a pressing need to venture out.

:thumbsup2

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one standing in Chefs du France after Steak Frites and multiple Grey Goose slushies gets to take Collete from Ratatouille home. And let me tell ya, if she invites ya back to show you her hairy bits, she's probably talking about her armpits.

Have a great weekend chaps.

Got paid today. It's drinking time. If only there weren't an ice storm.

And the cost of the electric bill will be..... :scared1:
