Good luck. Hope it turns out to be fairly minor.
I wonder... you said your DD had a bath first I think. And then you had the yellow water. Maybe the water got stirred up, or low in the tank?
I'm no plumber. I have no idea.
We have liftoff...
That's brutal. Last time the transformer blew in the neighborhood with the ice storm, we stayed at MiL's for four days. When power goes out now, that's not even considered as an option.
Well, maybe some good news. Digging up a sewer line block in frozen ground doesn't sound fun or cheap either.
As we built our house 20 years ago, most everything (except the roof) is 20 years old. Not a good plan.
That's why I've felt the need to say "engage".
My son is a master plumber and I can tell you feom conversations with him and experience...REPLACE IT!!! When they go, the damage costs (flooding or otherwise) will more than outweigh the cost.
Morning all from a lightly snow dusted London.
Coming into some crunch times on projects, so everyone wants a piece of Danny.
Pick up the Jeep later, and currently in a row with Fiat about who's paying for it.
Hope everyone is warm, dry and full of bacon. Looking at the posts above that seems like a challenge right now. All the best to those sorting life stuff out.
Never seen Star trek, so I guess I'm in the orange. Does he drink Earl Grey in it?
This. Not only do you have to deal with collateral damage, you also have no time to shop around. If something as central as your boiler or heater goes, you will pay through the nose once it's gone to get it fixed right away, rather than scheduling in with a cheaper, better guy. Just my tuppence.

WHAT?! YOU'VE NEVER SEEN STAR TREK?!

Hey, Gents! Hope everyone is well. So I had this other company come by to look into why there was water splashing back into the basement. Well, first let me say that I almost didn't say anything because I not only feel like an idiot, but embarrassed beyond belief that I allowed this to happen. Having said that, the problem wound up being that the septic tank was over full. I had apparently forgotten when we had the tank last pumped, thinking it was only 4-5 years back when it was in fact a lot longer than that. Because it was so full it was starting to back up. As a result the leaching field is gone and will need to be replaced. Not looking forward to that. Talking to a friend of mine from the VFW who had to replace his leaching field, it's going to be a huge cost....there goes my Disney World vacation fund. Apparently the leaching field is the most expensive part of the whole septic system. The guys that came to pump the tank said that a lot of the trees in the backyard will have to go in order to get this done, so there's another cost added on this whole screw up of mine. Again, I'm embarrassed to say this, but decided to say it in hopes that someone will learn from my mistake and keep their system pumped on a regular basis. I'm trying real hard to not lose it, but after 2 years of, well, not horrible luck, but definitely not good luck either, I'm going to lose it. Yes, this was my fault, but still...I'm going to lose it at some point. I'm going to grab a bag full of rubber bands and start pinging people in the butt with them. I'm trying to inject a little bit of humor here. Ok...I feel better. Thanks again for letting me vent, you guys have heard it more than once from me these last two years. Have a good day, guys.

Morning all, another chilly one here -5F before the wind-chill. Still better than most of the country though and it isn't snowing.
And there is your answer.
That sucks. It's not like the old days where you can just run a few pipes through the yard. Shame that you will lose a bunch of trees though.
We get ours emptied every 2 to 3 years. You really have to watch the type of toilet paper you use as well. The Kirkland brand that Costco sells here doesn't break down very well and can cause you problems.

Still don't know why we had yellow-ish water, but there's a bigger problem. See my post above.
And don't forget to order it the way he does, "Tea, Earl Grey. Hot."
We had a huge blizzard in January of 2013, less than a month after my DD was born, and we lost power for 4 days as well and wound up staying at my in-laws because they had a whole home generator system installed. While that was nice, I was most certainly glad to get back to our house when the power was back on.
Unfortunately it wasn't good news, but live and learn. Onwards and upwards.
At least you have a fairly new roof.
While pointing with your index finger
Yeah, I know. I brought that up to the Mrs. last night and she simply said, "I don't know it's old and will be the next to go, but now you're paranoid." So I guess we'll have to wait until that goes for the wife to want to replace it. This has happened once before with something that my DW wouldn't listen to me on. And when that something happened I just threw my hands up and said, "I told you." She didn't like that, but she knew I was right. So now we'll play the waiting game.
I hope things go well for you, my friend, when it comes to all or projects.

Morning from a sunny but cool -2F Westfield NB. I had a relaxing day yesterday, now back to the bathroom install, final coat of crack fill on this morning. Once it is dry later today I'll get it sanded and a coat of primer on. I bought a new Henry rifle yesterday so I'm heading over to the range to try it out while I'm waiting for things to dry, Have a great day Dads.
Sorry to hear this CCT, hopefully the field replacement will go smoothly.
Unknown yet trying to get them thawed. They go into a concrete slab so hope notJC1984, I am so sorry to hear of your broiler and frozen pipes. Did the pipes burst? I hope not.
Valid points. Hmmm... pondering...To an extent. A big part of coaching at that level is man management, and coming up with a system that suits their marquee players strengths and other players can support, or identify others who can take them to that next level, and to bring out the best in them. You are right that its talent, but talent means jack all if you don't apply it correctly.
You and Norm are right, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Messi can all win games on their own, but I could give you a list of maybe 100 teams in history that on paper should have won championships but didn't. So is it the job of the coach to get them ready for the huge games? Ancelotti in Leicester on paper, had a significantly weaker team than probably 5 sides in the Premier League, and those other teams were filled with the calibre of player you are talking about, and yet he won it. Coaches can bring a spirit or a gee up a team, that has been seen countless times in relegation battles in the Premier League. I would say the opposite in the UK, that the team are praised to the rafters if they do well, once they get on a bad run of games it's the coach that gets the bullet.
Well... at least you got the answer to one question.Having said that, the problem wound up being that the septic tank was over full. I had apparently forgotten when we had the tank last pumped, thinking it was only 4-5 years back when it was in fact a lot longer than that. Because it was so full it was starting to back up.

And sorry to hear that too. Sure hope you can get the pipes thawed okay.Woke up to the boiler failed again and frozen pipes in master bathroom. Another day off of work and another day of extreme stress.
Nope. Not even nearly sorry. Could not give a tinkers cuss about it. Not a fan of the SW franchise either.WHAT?! YOU'VE NEVER SEEN STAR TREK?!

Sorry buddy. That sucks, and fair play for fessing up. In true man style, I feel awfully bad for you right now, but if you could let us know when you are just a little bit over it, we can start to take the p!ss out of you about it, because, you know, it's poo, and that's comedy.Again, I'm embarrassed to say this, but decided to say it in hopes that someone will learn from my mistake and keep their system pumped on a regular basis. That's exactly why I said to replace it. 10-12 is typical. 15 is pushing it. 20 is a disaster waiting to happen.Well, you have a good object lesson in maintenance with the septic tank. It would be a pretty direct parallel with the hot water heater. Usually you're doing great if you get about 15 years out of a hot water heater.
Not a fan of the SW franchise either.

Morning all.
Another cold one here today (-31C/-23F).
Got a few errands to run today. That is all.
Well... at least you got the answer to one question.

Please see earlier references to Doc falling off a ladder. Mucho sympathy, then merciless torment. Tis the way of men.
But, like I said, I do feel bad for you now my friend. A Disney trip going begging is always a crime.
Plus, I've learnt a ton about the drainage and plumbing systems of your average american home. Every day is a school day.
Ugh. Sorry for the bad news. You hate to learn these things the hard way.
That being said, I wouldn't go overboard pumping it every year. That seems like it would just cost you money you don't need to spend. Whatever the maintenance recommendation is--every 2-3 years? Should be fine. It's just a matter of keeping track.

I understand the resistance and especially given the issue with septic tank, but it will be a lot more stressful and costly if you wait.
After 9 films? How many chances am I gonna give it?Happy Friday Eve guys! Sounds like homeownership has raised its gonna brake now repair me mode around here. Try to stay warm and safe as it looks like the next several days are gonna be outright Canadian like including zapping us southerners.........Be safe out there
