DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
In other Holiday news, I now have to walk past the new Xmas section in the store every time I go to a meeting. Ho Ho Ho. I haven't even had my summer vacation yet.

:sad2:

Mother Nature is putting on a show tonight. Most are cloud to cloud lightning but more than a few are hitting ground targets. A close one woke me up. Pretty cool.

That never gets old.

I wonder what would happen if we all just took one Christmas off without buying a single thing.
Just reflect on the time and family instead.

Well, my wallet would definitely appreciate the break. And we might re-discover the real meaning of the day. So we absolutely cannot let this happen.

What a start to Tuesday. Try to leave my subdivision where the road has been closed for construction the last month, and they decide to start the asphalt at 7:30 AM. Great idea, because no one leaves to go to work at 8. :furious:

I finally get done waiting and drive over it only to be almost crushed by a semi at the stop light who decided not to yield on a left turn at a green light. :furious:

I get to the office in all the fog and don't have Internet access. So, I can't do anything here at all today until it is fixed. :furious:

Where is the reset button for today?

:faint:

Sounds like you have some motive and time for a round of vacation planning.

Well that's a rough start to the day. You may need to have a drink. ;)

My FIL retired and offered to cut mine as he hauls around the flatbed and riding mower. He couldn't get inside my fence though and won't trim, but it's a great idea. Unfortunately, he cuts on his schedule which is whenever he feels like it. So, I usually just push mow it. It takes me about an hour to do so and trim.

Coudn't get in or you wouldn't let him in?

Haven't gone anywhere in over a month so I thought to treat myself to an afternoon in the Keys. Late breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, happy hour with a couple of friends, and take out from Sonny's BBQ for dinner. But NOOOOO. Driving about 70 on the Turnpike, the front driver's side tire decided to blow. Cancel plans and go to Goodyear tomorrow morning.

Painted both kids rooms over the weekend.

That's ambitious.

The Zika stuff is getting a little scary. A lot of stories int he news about it spreading and how quickly it will move from one area to the next. keep those little blood suckers away.

So far they have it confined to one area and the planes/trucks are out spraying like crazy. Too bad about not going to the Pats/Phins but there is always next year.

Do you ever get to stop paying for her education? I told mine I'm helping with the undergrad tuition, but they are on their own for graduate. Unless I win the lotto that is.

Part of it is coming out of money her mother left her so I'm not totally on the hook. She knows she needs a job because the allowance is cut off.

Always cool to watch!

Yes it is. Of course there are lots of opportunities to see her do her stuff but last night's storm was particularly impressive.

'Morning all...
It was game night in our house yesterday.
Which means we ended up at a local "pub" for beer, food and seven or eight rounds of trivia.
The reuben I had was quite tasty and a Newcastle draft ain't bad for mass produced suds.
Net result: tied for 4th place. Not bad; we've won it before but the categories don't always go in ones favor.
Just one tough round and you may not be able to catch back up.
Apparently I need to study up on the history of April Fools Day.
Sounds like a nice night. You and DW only or did DS join you for free food and beverage?

Gotta hate days like that. Only bright side is it's almost Wednesday when you have a day start like that.

Who'd you and Norm tic off today? Good to hear no accident as a result though.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.......

Unfortunately, he's never going to lose that fight.

If DW lets me (and she won't), I'll have the bathroom at the next house with a drain in the floor, standing shower (no tub), no wood trim or cabinets, and just use the water hose to spray everything off and push the water down the floor drain.

Sounds like a good idea!

Oooof. That sounds torturous. Hopefully the day will get better.

.....

Thanks, it did. I had lunch at Firehouse Subs with my wife and went home. :lmao:

:faint:

Sounds like you have some motive and time for a round of vacation planning.

Didn't think of it that way.

Coudn't get in or you wouldn't let him in?

Always a good time for a drink. No, the fence gate is too narrow for his riding mower. He could still get the front of the house and behind the fence, but when he arrives, who knows. I went ahead and cut the grass this afternoon.

Sounds like you had a worse start to the day than me. Glad it was just a tire.

Who'd you and Norm tic off today? Good to hear no accident as a result though.

Usually morning are good for me. I should have seen the construction and just went back inside.

Greetings to all the disdads from the back half of the week, in overcast London.

'Morning all...
It seems our house has come down with a poltergeist infestation. Started with an apparent water leak under the hall bath sink. Pull everything out, dry it all off and then start running water and searching for the offending connection and... nothing? Dry as a bone and nothing is even weeping. I'm pleased I don't have to rebuild a whole new waste system buy that's just odd. Then things started randomly falling of the walls. Beginning with our Disney pin collections. OK, now these spirits are just messing with me. They need to be keepin' their grubby ectoplasmic mitts of the Disney stuff or I'm gonn'a have to go all mid-evil exorcism on their moldy corpses.

Whoa... that's a bad start to the day.
What say you don't be doing that again today, alright?

I like it...
It won't be happening in our house, but I like it.

And for some unearthly reason we seem to have picked up Black Friday.....
Oh my...
Bless y'alls hearts.

But NOOOOO. Driving about 70 on the Turnpike, the front driver's side tire decided to blow. Cancel plans and go to Goodyear tomorrow morning.
If there's an up side to this, it's that your car didn't end up warped around an abutment as a result.
Glad you're well, may the repair be less painful than necessary.

So far they have it confined to one area and the planes/trucks are out spraying like crazy.
It's begun.
Bad enough that it's starting off in a tourist area where folks come and go from all over;
once it makes it a couple hundred miles north, the transmission distribution due to travelers is gonn'a skyrocket.

May I be the wrongest I've ever been on this point.

Sounds like a nice night. You and DW only or did DS join you for free food and beverage?
It was a fun evening to be sure.
The young'en did tag along as well. That was part of the reason for the outing as he's headed back to school in mere days so we won't seem much of him for months after that. We're trying to squeeze in a few things before the house goes quiet again.

Greetings to all the disdads from the back half of the week, in overcast London.
Greetings back from the equally overcast US Southeast.
Have a brew or three for us once you get done for the day.

Only 6 days until Disney, and 3 days of work. Of course big day Thursday with tons of meetings, and I agreed to a meeting on Monday for a few hours(the first day of my vacation, but I don't fly out until Tuesday, so no big deal).

So not quite that clean of a break on Friday, but I need the vacation.

Drive in was fine this morning, the rest of you look to of had some issues. Hope all is well now. :)

So just to talk about Disney instead of work, I went and picked up a gift for my wife for our Anniversary which is on the 12th, during our stay.

I found a nice necklace on sale for 50% off from a local jewelry store. They wrapped it for me, so now I just have to play mission impossible and hide the gift in our luggage so that I can give it to my wife as a surprise on our actual anniversary. My kids can't keep a secret, so I don't want them to be in on the gift too far in advance. But anyone have any ideas for a cool way to give my wife the gift?

We are planning on being at Hollywood Studios that morning with dinner at 1900 Park Fare, and most likely go out to some other park at night.
I might end up just giving it to her in the morning when she wakes up in the room, as she hates a big scene. But I figure if someone suggests something cool to do, that is easy I might do it anyway. :)

Happy Wednesday. A much better start to this morning. Turns out this will be my last day this week. I tool a sick day tomorrow and a vacation day Friday. School starts up next Wed, so I'll spend a couple more days with the dds before they go back.

You can always call the Ghostbusters. There are the originals and girl upgrade version.

Does your wife wear jewelry in the theme parks? My DW is afraid of heights, and will avoid riding some rides. I try to stay behind with her sometimes, and others will ride with my dds. However, one trip she rode Tower of Terror and squeezed the handle so hard that she broke her engagement ring band. The jewelry who did the repair asked if she was in a car wreck. Thus, she rarely wears her jewelry anymore.

My initial thought for you was if you were going to carry the box into the park or just the necklace as either pose risks. Could you have it in your hand at the time of a picture at ToT or RRNC, and when you look at the picture after the ride and she asks you what's in your hand .... Then you also get a souvenir photo to refer to for the future.

Similarly, tell the photopass photographer what you are going to do. There are those poses where Tinkerbell appears in your open hand. Do that pose, and then drop in the bracelet or box into her open hand.

You could give it to her a dinner, maybe time it where one of the characters is stopping by the table and get some interaction and photos. Or, is there a lounge at GF you could get a drink and give it to her before dinner?

Not sure if your kids are old enough yet, or what resort you are staying, but mine are teens so I leave them in the room and dw and I go to the bar/lounge at the resort for some quiet time at night. That might be another option as well, or even give her the bracelet at the lounge the night before.

Doin some of the same ourselves as DD just got back home yesterday from San Diego so we got until the 13th when we head out to move both in to school.

A character meet and great with a pic?

I had that twice in a week. Ripped out the vanity unit, dry as a bone, couldn't understand it.. Turned out DS had been called to nature in the middle of the night, and was trying to pee in the sink.

Upgrade? Surely not. Glad to hear you're having a better end to the week.

Room service and a cheeky bottle of bubbles?

Awesome ideas, and nothing that the wife would object too. I think my wife wears jewelry in the parks, she never takes her wedding band off. :)

In other Holiday news, I now have to walk past the new Xmas section in the store every time I go to a meeting. Ho Ho Ho. I haven't even had my summer vacation yet.

Don't tease me. I own and operate an on-the-water towing and emergency response business. I spend all summer looking forward to anything that's not summer. Plus, the closer we are to the holidays, the closer we are to our November trip.

I had that twice in a week. Ripped out the vanity unit, dry as a bone, couldn't understand it.. Turned out DS had been called to nature in the middle of the night, and was trying to pee in the sink.

Impressive range. It's really all about the trajectory. Seriously though, I have a 4yo boy. Anything on that side of the bathroom is fair game. We count it a win if it's within three feet of the toilet. Speaking of which, it's probably time to bleach the baseboard registers again.

Morning chaps from Sunny London. Doin' the single digit dance.

:thumbsup2Yep, my boy is 5. Just had the confidence to change his floor finish to timber. Bracing ourselves.
I spend all summer looking forward to anything that's not summer.
So, you're like the Anti-Olaf?

Morning Guys.

Playing in a charity golf tournament later today so that's good. But I'm still jealous of all of you with trips coming up shortly, especially given I don't see one on our horizon.

Have a good one.
