DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
So I guess the correct answer to float or soft serve is both. Congrats on all the trips and the runs. The kessel run medal looks really neat.
I was not close to planning to do a Coast to Coast. After we signed up for Disneyland, the medal for Kessel Run came out. The Missus said "you should do that!" and who am I to argue with the wife?

I'm driving, so I will drive on Friday, and stay in The Villages, FL on Friday night with a relative. Then do the expo & disney springs on Saturday. Run and MK Sunday. Shut down MK on Sunday, drive to The Villages to sleep, then drive home Monday.

I know it's overly ambitious, and short, for a trip, but I think we can do it. (I'm bringing a buddy of mine, not a child or spouse. Is that wrong?)

A long, long time ago
In a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn
Could talk the federation into
Maybe cutting them a little slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass
We took a bongo from the scene
And we went to Theed to see the Queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where we found this boy...

....

On one hand, that's really awesome. On the other, it's a prequel. Let's call it as wash.

Missed your presence at DDC 4 (or whatever number it is).
As did I.

I had me an Old Fashion last night too....without the old and the fashioned.....who am I kiddin' - I just had me some straight up bourbon in a glass! o_O
Next time you're at a bar, order a Brandy Old Fashioned. If the bartender is worth is salt at all, he'll immediately ask you what part of Wisconsin you're from. Along from milk and beer, Brandy Old Fashioneds are the state beverage.

Nothing wrong with that. Still have a bit of the Jack Single Barrel left. A Scotch loving friend is coming over this weekend and we may decide to finish it then.

I had a few fingers of that Jack Single Barrel - it was pretty smooth. I'm not typically a Jack drinker but that wasn't an ordinary bottle of Jack!

I would do this - if I liked Brandy. Never have had a taste for it....unless it's in a Brandy Alexander...but that's just like an adult milk shake! I think the only reason why I like that is the Cream de Cacao.

Hi everyone!

I just flew in from Disneyland, and boy are my arms tired! :rimshot:

But seriously, I did the Star Wars Half in Disneyland, then I'm headed to WDW in April for the Star Wars Light Side, then in November, the Missus and I are planning to celebrate our 15 yr wedding anniversary during Wine & Dine.

I think that will mean I'll visit the disboards more often.
(also, i have to shrink a lot of my pix if I'm going to write a trip report. 2MB files don't load to this board or Photobucket quickly or well, or, in some cases, at all.)

Nice on the run and Dole Whips and sounds like a great DIS year
OK, I posted yesterday. If I post today, it's called "two in a row". And if I post again tomorrow, it's called a "winning streak"... It has happened before!

Good pics - keep 'em coming...............

Oh my my this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Did you know this junkyard slave
Isn't even old enough to shave
But he can use the Force, they say
Ah, do you see him hitting on the queen
Though he's just nine and she's fourteen
Yeah, he's probably gonna marry her someday
Well, I know he built C-3PO
And I've heard how fast his pod can go
And we were broke, it's true
So we made a wager or two
He was a prepubescent flyin' ace
And the minute Jabba started off that race
Well, I knew who would win first place
Oh yes, it was our boy

We started singin' ...
My my this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Now we finally got to Coruscant
The Jedi Council we knew would want
To see how good the boy could be
So we took him there and we told the tale
How his midi-chlorians were off the scale
And he might fulfill that prophecy
Oh, the Council was impressed, of course
Could he bring balance to the Force?
They interviewed the kid
Oh, training they forbid
Because Yoda sensed in him much fear
And Qui-Gon said "Now listen here"
"Just stick it in your pointy ear"
"I still will teach this boy"

He was singin' ...
My my this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

We caught a ride back to Naboo
'Cause Queen Amidala wanted to
I frankly would've liked to stay
We all fought in that epic war
And it wasn't long at all before
Little Hotshot flew his plane and saved the day
And in the end some Gunguns died
Some ships blew up and some pilots fried
A lot of folks were croakin'
The battle droids were broken
And the Jedi I admire most
Met up with Darth Maul and now he's toast
Well, I'm still here and he's a ghost
I guess I'll train this boy

And I was singin' ...
My my this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Me Too

Well, hey there, hi there, ho there!

I guess you could say I'm the new guy. I'm Jessy, and my love of Disney is kind of a recent thing. When my lovely wife (She Who Must Be Obeyed... SWMBO) and I were planning our wedding 8 years ago (just celebrated 8 years on 1/19), she briefly threw out the idea of honeymooning in Disney. I was skeptical that I, being a manly male man, could possibly enjoy Disney World!

Fast-forward to May 2014. I had just turned 30, graduated from college, and our son turned 4 the previous December, and we chose to celebrate by taking our first trip to Disney World! By this time, I had wised up, and knew I would have a great time, if only because I'd be able to enjoy it through my son's eyes. I couldn't have been more wrong! As beautiful as it was to watch my kid's eyes light up with wonder and amazement, I found my own eyes lighting up the same way! From our check-in at POP Century, I was hooked. I even tried talking my wife into letting me apply for an Analyst position (that's what I do in real life here in New Orleans), but she swears she could never live in Florida.

wd019wdw201414176980914.jpeg

Although we love traveling to many places, we decided as a family that we would do our best to visit WDW at least every other year. I'm now hooked on Disney movies and music. We didn't have a TV growing up, so most of the classic movies are new to me (I'll tell you about how Ursula scared 6 year old me to tears in front of my Kindergarten peers another day), and I can't get enough of them. We usually have a family movie night on Friday or Saturday, and I've commandeered that evening for the foreseeable future until my kids (we now have a 16 month old daughter who was just a bun in the oven on our May 2014 trip) have seen every one of them. Just last week I created an "Ultimate Disney (Animated Movies) Playlist" on Spotify (if you click that link, it should take you to Spotify to check it out). I tried to stick with whatever original soundtracks were available, but also included the Disney Classics collection and a few other albums I like. The playlist currently has 1,508 songs that would play for almost 68 hours!

I think it's safe to say I'm a DIS Dad. My kids are totally DIS Kids too! When planning our trip this year, we asked the boy if he would rather visit Disney just before Christmas, and have a few presents from Mommy and Daddy on Christmas morning, or NOT have any presents from Mommy and Daddy, but be at Disney ON Christmas DAY (Santa would bring 1 present, regardless). Now, as we're all dad's here, I'm sure you understand that kids love presents. My son is no different. He asks for more presents while he's opening presents. When shopping for other people's presents, he tries to buy presents for himself... I'm sure you get the point. Needless to say, in less time than it takes to say MOUSE, he was jumping off the walls saying he wanted to be at Disney on Christmas. So there you have it... 12/19 - 12/26, we'll make our second visit (first visit for our sweet princess... at least that she'll be aware of) to the World!

(I'd like to add, looking at the recent previous posts, I had my first Old Fashioned the past weekend while SWMBO and I celebrated our anniversary. I'm normally a Single Malt Scotch drinker, but this was eye-opening!)

Happy Thursday. The Governor has shut down KY in lieu of the snow storm that may happen tonite. Now, I don't even have to use my own leave time to stay home again tomorrow.

I was really starting to miss you guys, so I said to heck to with work and decided to drop by. Going to try to make an effort to get over here much more often. But then again, this is about the time of year that most people forget about their New Year's resolutions anyway.

Well, two posts and done. See you here next year.

First front has moved through. We were on a 1 hour delay but when you live within walking distance it doesn't matter. Next front is coming in Thursday evening so you may be correct about the other meetings.
)

Campus closed tomorrow as well for students to travel home. Still having those meetings? :lmao:

I'd like to run in those events for the medals, but the only medal I'd qualify for now is attached to the defibrillator. I can't figure out how to compress photos on my phone, but I'll need to do so to post next year's trip report.

'Morning all...
Good to see a few old timers check back in.
Pull up a lawn chair; stick around a while.
"Grab a brew
. Don't cost nothin'..."

.

They won't be here long.

So I guess the correct answer to float or soft serve is both. Congrats on all the trips and the runs. The kessel run medal looks really neat.
?

Pineapple/ vanilla swirl in pineapple juice float is the only answer. They don't have that at the current place, so I'll just have to suffer with pineapple float.

I really like that Four Roses Single barrel, and at the price, has made its way to my top shelf.

Welcome, even though you like scotch to bourbon, you can still join. The CBO will be around to give you a #.

Dues are payable in dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. You mail about 800+ to me, and I mail out to everyone else. It is a fool proof plan.

I think it's safe to say I'm a DIS Dad.

Welcome aboard Jessy - Randall will be around to provide you with your coveted DisDad Number when he gets around to it. Make yourself at home!

I really like that Four Roses Single barrel, and at the price, has made its way to my top shelf.

The Barrel Strength Single Barrel is what I had last night - that stuff will knock you on your keister!

I quite enjoy the standard single barrel Four Roses. It's definitely one of my favorites. I've grown quite fond of Michters as well.

Well, hey there, hi there, ho there!

Welcome aboard! Saw the user name and figured it had to be you. I haven't been on B&B since the "Saint" Sue auction. These are as decent a group of gentlemen though not as well groomed.

Happy Thursday. The Governor has shut down KY in lieu of the snow storm that may happen tonite. Now, I don't even have to use my own leave time to stay home again tomorrow...
Everything closed tomorrow but since I live within walking distance and it is usually warmer in the office than the house I may trudge in tomorrow. Hope you and the rest of the dads in the path of the storm stay safe and don't loose power.

Holy crap it's Don!

I had some of this....

See ya got a Christmas trip planned -- we have done the season twice & you'll love it

I saw the original Huff Post article and the Parks Blog posted a follow up. It is about two students who wanted to do something nice for a cafe employee that everyone loved. She always wanted to go to Disney and well, read the story. Bet their dads are Dis Dad material.

Saw that, great story and very touching. Great to see the young kids doing something like that.

Hmmm... what about a Bourbon infused dole whip, with a side of bacon-wrapped cake (or cake wrapped bacon) and a root beer chaser? I'll send you one, and you can divey it up how you see fit.

We'll have to see about getting these guys on the straight and narrow. At least they seem to have their bar in order. Good to see you here.

I have not seen that one before. I'll have to look for it the next time at the liquor store.

Well, using the office heat sounds like a good idea. You stay safe as well.

Those will work quite nice. I'd probably go with rum in my dole whip, but hey, I'll try anything once or twice, especially if you're buying. :lmao:

A long, long time ago
In a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn
Could talk the federation into
Maybe cutting them a little slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass
We took a bongo from the scene
And we went to Theed to see the Queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where we found this boy...

My kids love that song. I have to admit, it is pretty clever.

We were at the Belle Vue meet and Scott had this girly looking drink and I asked him if it was a Shirley Temple. Nope, Old Fashion. Been a while so I had to have one. The first one didn't go down well, just ask Paul, but when I finally tasted the second one, brought back fond memories. Good remedy for the flu.
Well, I know I wasn't there yet, but my understanding was that it went down a little too fast... :rolleyes1

Nothing wrong with that. Still have a bit of the Jack Single Barrel left.
Love it! The company I work for sources corn for Jack down at a couple of grain elevators we own in Tennessee. About 5 or 6 years ago, we got a full barrel of Single Barrel which is on display in the corporate office and all employees and some of our customers got bottles from that barrel. That was some good stuff.

Moral of the story... drink more Jack!

Please!

Well, hey there, hi there, ho there!
