DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
'Morning all...

I have often wondered if we have ringers in the clubhouse...
So, who have you been suspicious of?

Morning Gents.

DS and DW both ran a 5K race this morning. DS was 18th overall, 5th in his class with a time of 21:04. DW was 133rd overall, 16th in her class with a time of 30:35. A PB for DW and for DS it was his first race, pretty proud of them both.
Congrats to them; excellent work.

In retrospect, it probably wasn't a good idea to walk a 5K before the tennis championship match. It is the annual Komen Breast Cancer and FIL paid for everything since his sister died from breast cancer and his other sister survived breast cancer.

Here was our finish time.

I ended up losing the finals match, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 lasting 2.5 hours. Just for some perspective, I usually only play singles 1 hour, and doubles 2 hours. It was grueling. For the good news, that means I still get to play in the fat, old, and injured division next year. For the even better news, I won the DisDad Fantasy Baseball league, which brings me back to back championships.
speaking of excellent work...
win or lose, that's a good job and way more work than I'd purposely get into.
The long walk probably wasn't a benefit, but from the scores I'd say you held your own quite nicely.

Anyone else catch the eclipse?
We caught some magnificent views of continuous rain, mist, muck and cloud cover.
does that count for anything?

Will do a little back reading to see what I have missed
Now you ought to know better than that.
Good to see you drop by though.

I liked those movies.
I'm probably in the minority.
I liked them too you are not alone.

Thanks guys. Won two more matches today and am in the finals tomorrow. First match was two easy sets (6-0, 6-2) but second match went three sets with tiebreaker 3rd set 10-8. I wisely carb-ed up yesterday with rice and bread and still just barely had enough energy to get thru today. Ibuprofen, icing some things down, and heating pad/massage other things. I am exhausted.

Before you all start buying plane tickets to Wimbledon, I'm playing in the old, fat, and injured division.
Bread and rice? How about Beer and brats? Basically the same thing right; they make beer from grain and water so you can carb load and hydrate at the same time.
Good thing I picked you up in my old fat guy fantasy league. As long as you don't go on IR I should be good.

Maybe I need an adult beverage.
No you deserve an adult beverage.

Morning gents. Been a long night. Almost over.
Anyone else catch the eclipse?
Had the telescope set up to watch it with the girls, didn't need it but their theory is we have we must use it. There were some low clouds so it was hazy for the first hour; it didn't clear up until after the girls went to bed so they missed the cool colors.

Top O the Morning Dads! Sounds like a good family and football weekend for this group.
The weekend is here. Soccer went well. My youngest had about 5 goals but more importantly dribbled very well, getting around defenders and passing the ball. She plays so hard which is enough for me. The positive results are a bonus. Truly enjoyable to watch her play.

Today is the day that I make our family's tie dye shirts for our trip. I'm hoping I'm done early enough to get some yard work done and then have a camp fire this evening. Beer and s'mores make me happy. In that order.
Congrats to DD and her her proud Dad! I have done family shirts a couple of times but I took the lazy route and made purchases. How was the camp fire and sorry about big Ben being out.
Good start this morning and about to pour an adult beverage. Changed the batteries on the remote so I am ready to go.

Not exactly a 5 star resort...

This is the size of the island where the village is located. Not much bigger than Discovery Island.

And the facilities not quite as nice as a 1BR DVC bathroom. The buckets on the left are the flushing mechanism since there is no running water. Note they use salt water to flush because fresh water is shipped in and guarded like gold.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, you're a good father getting the PP that experience - well done.
HOLY CARP! FLORIDA 28 VOLS 27! Strange but entertaining game. I feel for Tenn. fans. Well, not so much. My weekend is made.
Nice win, several friends put on suicide watch around these parts this weekend after that debacle.

Sounds like an overall very productive weekend for you. Congratulations on the tennis results, job well done sir!
This is just a post from Carl to cheer you all up on this Monday morning. Will do a little back reading to see what I have missed
Great to hear from you, how are you doing?

Mornin' Guys!

Today was my 180 day window for my Spring Break trip... this is what we snagged...

Sat. - Whispering Canyon Dinner
Sunday - Biergarten Lunch
Monday - 50's Primetime Lunch
Tuesday - Be Our Guest Lunch
Wednesday - California Grill Dinner
Thursday - San Angel Inn Lunch - Beaches and Cream Dinner
Friday - 'Ohana Dinner

It'll be a first for the family for Whispering Canyon. First time for us doing California Grill (hoping it's ok with an 8 and a 6 year old). And also a first time for San Angel Inn. I know it's not known for its food, but I've always wanted to eat in there because of the atmosphere.

Nice grabs IMO

It'll be a first for the family for Whispering Canyon

That was my favorite meal with the family the last time I went (Jiko with just DW and myself took the 1st place spot). You will enjoy it :D

Waiting patiently for the Brit to to land at MIA then headed down to the Keys for six days. Hope to do some diving tomorrow but we will see if I am up to it. A couple of other friends are coming in from Tampa so I am sure a good time will be had by all. Really bad insomnia the last week and hopefully the salt air will help with that.

You the man, big congrats on the match. Way to tough it out. Also congrats on the Fantasy league win, I just don't get all the fantasy stuff. Too much work for me so I admire people who do all the work to do it. One suggestion to all fantasy football players, avoid Dolphin players at all cost.

If we only hadn't waited in line 30 minutes for that picture. :lmao:

Nice pic, congrats to the girls.

And UK beat Missouri. The sky must be falling.

Saw a lot of the UK game and enjoyed it. Stoops is building a good team.

UTK Alum. Glad it made you happy.
Bills suffer as well. "I feel for you. Well, not so much. My weekend is made." :rotfl2:

Glad the Dolphins could oblige. They really suck. My older brother lives in Buffalo (he is the idiot in the family) and luckily resisted the urge to make a bet with him. SEC Network replayed the Gator game last night so it got the bad taste out of my mouth. Sports talk radio down here is ready to lynch Philbin, not sure he is going to last much longer.

Morning gents. Been a long night. Almost over.
Anyone else catch the eclipse?

Barely, it clouded over. Did see part of the eclipse but missed the blood part. NASA had some great pics on their site.

This is just a post from Carl to cheer you all up on this Monday morning. Will do a little back reading to see what I have missed

Hey Bubba.

CJ he hasn't played football in awhile but with the Dolphins, that may not be an issue.

Definitely not an issue but with this offensive line, Child Services would probably jail you for endangering your son.

All this talk about 5K's and tennis matches.

We walked the Chicago ALS Walk yesterday. I ended up hauling my two boys over two and a half miles in a wagon. I'm sore as all get out this morning. Quite pathetic....

Hope everyone here is doing well over here. I'm so behind on the conversation here I'm not even going to pretend to catch up. We have a trip coming up so wanted to come read some trip reports. Anyone got tips for visiting the World in early december?

Welcome back stranger!

...Glad the Dolphins could oblige. They really suck. ....

Yes, yes they do. Not that I would have any experience with football teams that suck.

Got some hard to get ones there. Good job.

:sad2: Ouch.

We caught some magnificent views of continuous rain, mist, muck and cloud cover.

It was nice and clear here for pretty much the whole thing.
Took a few pics if anyone wants to see 'em.
I didn't bother taking out the telescope, but I did shoot it with my big zoom lens.

Looks like a busy day of chatter. Have to be on campus this week, which means a daily 150 mile commute. Played tennis again tonight and didn't realize how sore I really was. This was just a fun one, so I not as much effort thankfully.

Congrats on the fat, old, and injured division. I wouldn't have even gotten signed up so you did far better than I would have done.

Thanks. Still have a long way to go.

Wow. Impressive, even with the loss. Scores like that show it was very evenly divided.

Congrats on both fronts.

Thanks. It still sucks to lose.

This is just a post from Carl to cheer you all up on this Monday morning. Will do a little back reading to see what I have missed

Hey Carl.

Well done! Sounds like quite the match.
Congrats on the fantasy league. It's a big deal if you pay attention to that sort of thing. :rotfl2:

Thanks. Didn't you get third? Hello, you play to win the game! :lmao:

'

.

Thanks. I have thoughts about what could have been. Now, I'm thinking why did I do that? :sad1:

Bread and rice? How about Beer and brats? Basically the same thing right; they make beer from grain and water so you can carb load and hydrate at the same time.
Good thing I picked you up in my old fat guy fantasy league. As long as you don't go on IR I should be good.
.

Thanks. The tennis court would have been smelling something awful with those. don't worry. I won't go on the DL. It's not because I'm too tough - just too stupid.

Sounds like an overall very productive weekend for you. Congratulations on the tennis results, job well done sir!
?

Thanks. Wasn't all that productive today.

Nice list. Cali Grill will be fine. It is an open kitchen set up, and a bit louder that the other signatures on the Monorail Resort.

You the man, big congrats on the match. Way to tough it out. Also congrats on the Fantasy league win, I just don't get all the fantasy stuff. Too much work for me so I admire people who do all the work to do it. One suggestion to all fantasy football players, avoid Dolphin players at all cost

.

Thanks. The fantasy baseball is a bit more work, but it is enjoyable. I hope Stoops sticks around at UK, but am afraid he will move on for a bigger program. However, with the new playoff system, it might be better to just stay at a smaller school in a weaker conference and go undefeated for one of those spots.

.

We walked the Chicago ALS Walk yesterday. I ended up hauling my two boys over two and a half miles in a wagon. I'm sore as all get out this morning. Quite pathetic....

Congrats to you. Don't worry. We will be talking beer and bacon before long, and then we can get back to drinking beer and eating bacon.

Hope everyone here is doing well over here. I'm so behind on the conversation here I'm not even going to pretend to catch up. We have a trip coming up so wanted to come read some trip reports. Anyone got tips for visiting the World in early december?

Don't need too many tips for early December. It is a very low park crowd. It is high demand for DVC resorts. You going to a MVMCP?

Hold onto your seats gentlemen!! This post will make a post for two consecutive days. :) THis one is actually Disney related. I need to hear more about trader sams. Anything and everything on it would be great.

Another 30 minutes or so and you could have equaled the race time! Nice job finishing the race there.

Well, it's a bar.

I think something happened to Carl and someone else took over his account. Is anyone in the area who can go check on him???

Ha. It's not Monday. And that's a good thing.
Well at least I have that going for me.

Good grabs, the kids will be good at Cali.

Safe travels and enjoy - the guys that know you longer/ better than I are correct in the multiple times I have read "the life of CJ" :rotfl2:

Stopping by at lunch. I'm ready for a nap.

Think you can make it three tomorrow? Yeah, Carl!

Yes I did finish 3rd but I think the guy that beat me in the semis cheated. ;) :rotfl:

Yes, I moved those starting players into the starting positions. :lmao:

I was worried down the stretch - two of my closers decided to go with blown saves and two of my aces had bat starts.

Another 30 minutes or so and you could have equaled the race time! Nice job finishing the race there.

.

Thanks. The Eagles won a game. Yeah!

I think something happened to Carl and someone else took over his account. Is anyone in the area who can go check on him???

.

If you send me money for a plane ticket, I'll search for him in Disney World. :rotfl:

I knew you cheated! :rotfl2:

It was a good battle but I allowed you to get too much of a lead mid week.
