DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Tempting. Now if you could get Jim to come down...

I'll see what I can do.

I'm here. I'm dehydrated from all of the wailing and crying :sad1:

Congrats to the Pats fans. I really, really, really, really hate your team.

That's a lot of hate there David. Might be unhealthy... ;)

We do have one boy who has never played competitive basketball before and he is obviously way behind everyone else. He scored his first basket, I think maybe ever, on Saturday and the boys and parents went crazy. WE ended up giving him our player of the game award and there were a few tears from him and his dad. It didn't take an hour for him to share it on Facebook. It makes me smile just typing this post.

That's awesome!

Morning guys,

Waiting for the Duck to check in. Hope he has recovered from yesterday's debacle.

Tempting. Now if you could get Jim to come down...

I wish I could get down there. I have been trying to find a time to bring DS down for some golf. No way I could come down for the Superbowl though. You guys have fun.

Howdy fellow dads, feels weird that I haven't posted in a few days. The cell service at Grand Californian stinks!!

Had a great trip and great races! Had fun meeting up with Sean McTupper and Richard Grady, we had an awesome lunch at Ariels Grotto (yes we did have kids with us, but no Jasmine so we didn't do a DisDad Princess pic). Sean and my DDs had a great meet up as well, they really enjoyed riding California Screamin together!

At LAX now on the way home :( and for the Disdad Nsync fans, I was in the same corral as Joey Fatone.

Sounds like a good weekend. Travel safe Philip!

:lmao::lmao: Good Morning Sir. I saved you a seat on the bandwagon just in case you want to hop on. The hate is OK, everyone hates us at this point. It's shaping up to be a great Superbowl though. Petey vs. Belly, D vs. D and should be a great game. I am hopeful, but Seattle is pretty good and unlikely to play another stinker in two weeks.

Morning Guys,

Hope things are well with everyone. Brent, sending out thought and prayers for you and your family.

We had another middle school basketball tournament this past weekend and once again went 2 and 2 to win the Bronze medal. My top 6 guys are capable of playing with the rest of the teams but we are pretty thin after that. Middle schools here use an even play system so he can create some challenging matchups. DS continues to play well and they all seem to be having some fun so that is good.

Have a good one everyone.

Congrats on a good weekend of basketball. I think it's awesome when we as coaches can make the players feel good and enjoy the game. Way to go Darcy!

I had a gentleman from Toronto next to me at the Patriots game. He said he had never seen anything like the experience he had at the game with the crowd and atmosphere at Gillette. I think I convinced him to move to New England.:thumbsup2

Saw the pictures. Looked like you all had a great time. How did the run go?

Ummm, yeah.......Not so much.

At least we can talk about deflating the footballs for the next two weeks.:sad2::sad2:

I doubt they had a lot of impact on Blount running it thru 5 Colts players.
Maybe the NFL can burn those footballs too? :lmao:

Congrats to your children on a good weekend of sports.

Just stopped in to wish everyone a happy monday and hope that all of your futures are filled with Disney magic

Good Morning Carl:wave2:

Hey - that's exactly how I feel about the Seahawks!

Barry, I feel sorry for all the Green Bay fans. Seriously. I'm thinking a loss like that would have a lot of fans lined up on the Tobin Bridge around here. Having been the victim of the largest come back ever against the Colts, it really hurts.

On a positive note, we are accepting applications for band wagon jumpers all week.:thumbsup2

I'm just assuming since you never got back to me that DW didn't care about being bummed and inviting a friend.:sad1:

No, she didn't... The sympathy well dried up... Sorry.

Pretty sure the Bills-Oilers comeback was much worse than the Colts. But yeah, it does sting.

Bothered me too, as I thought the Pats would have had a much better chance against GB than Seattle. That's a tough matchup for them... But hey, they have a shot at it!

can some one please tell me going to Disney at the end of July is not a big mistake? I have done end of Aug and liked it but not sure I am going to like the July crowds.

Monday Ownage!

can some one please tell me going to Disney at the end of July is not a big mistake? I have done end of Aug and liked it but not sure I am going to like the July crowds.

Based on last August, I'm not sure the crowds are much different. Seems it's pretty much busy all summer now. I have never gone the end of July so it's hard to compare, but I am thinking you'll be in Disney. What could go wrong?:thumbsup2

If it bothers you that much, maybe you should go at the end of August and I can buy you a Dole Whip.:)

Last night's dinner was ready when the Packers were up 2 scores late in the 4th. My wife (not a Packers fan) tells me the game is over, come eat. I'm not saying she jinxed it, but....

On a positive note, we are accepting applications for band wagon jumpers all week.:thumbsup2
Pick the Pats or the Seahawks? Sorry, football season is now over. Pitchers and Catchers report in 31 days.

July Disney Crowds or hanging around Eastern Pennsylvania. Just think about it that way.

Afternoon gents. Congrats to the Pats fans and condolences to the Colts fans. Sorry Barry, Bears fan here so ya know............... Got a business trip up to Chicago this week, gonna take some time to help the Balckhawks find their defense :sad2: Have a good week Dads.

As I had posted on FB, My FIL has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and given 4-6 months left. DW is naturally torn up over this. We are in town working on the slow process of getting things in order. He is resigned to his fate for the most part. For my part I'm just trying to be DWs rock.

Another downer is that this throws all plans into disarray with a real good chance the August trip won't happen now as our funds are needed to deal with anything which shamefully has me feeling pretty low. Waiting another year seems intolerable, which makes me feel crappy since I know others wait longer. Going to keep thinking up a plan but not sure yet what to do.

Oh yeah caught whatever stomach bug DW had last weekend. Fun fun fun lol
Prayers and hang in there staying strong for DW.
At LAX now on the way home :( and for the Disdad Nsync fans, I was in the same corral as Joey Fatone.
Glad you had a good time and meet, safe travels back home.

WTH is a DisDad Nsync fan and please tell me we do not have any here! Should be a Man Law against being a DisDad Nsync fan.

Congrats on the results but more importantly congrats on the experience for this young man, his parents, your team and the coach :thumbsup2
DD's team won by 12 over the weekend. She hurt her finger and it is swollen and black and blue from the tip all the way to her hand. She sat the whole second half was it was really sore. DS's team crushed both teams they played this weekend and his team is now 8-0 on the season. My 7th grade team was down 12 in the first half. We only allowed 8 points in the second half to pull out a 3 point victory. A great weekend of sports in our house!

At least we can talk about deflating the footballs for the next two weeks.:sad2::sad2:
COngrats on the hoops results and hope nothing too serious with DD injury. Heard about the football deflating this morning, what in the world? Could have been using a Nerf football and the result would have been the same :confused3
Just stopped in to wish everyone a happy monday and hope that all of your futures are filled with Disney magic
Thank you and same to you sir

I think it has been stated, but WDW always seems crowded these days. We have done end of July and not had problems or issues, but then again we have been there twice during Christmas / New Years and the crowds don't bother us. And you're at DaWorld, how bad can it be?

Good morning. I'm back home after a week away for a conference in San Diego and then 3 days at Disneyland. Got out to San Diego and my phone started acting up on me. It kept shutting off on me. I keep it in an Otterbox, and I finally found that if I took it out of the Otterbox it would work just fine, unless I squeezed it a certain way with my hand. So I just decided I'd keep it out of the Otterbox and try to be careful.

Needless to say, Thursday afternoon, as I was standing in the queue for Space Mountain and was getting my phone out to enter the wait time in the Lines app, I dropped my phone. Screen first. :headache:

I still don't have a phone. I've purchased my phones in the past from the local third party Verizon store because they sell their own insurance. It isn't a monthly fee, you pay for it up front and it costs less than Verizon's monthly billed insurance. On top of that, you're supposed to be able to just walk in to the store and get a new phone right away. Or so they say. Hopefully I'll have one tomorrow. :headache:

Apparently they don't even keep anything in stock anymore. Someone else was in there yesterday trying to upgrade and they were told they had to order that too.

I told the guy helping me I'll just start ordering my phones online in the future if I'm going to have to make 2 separate trips into his store when I need anything.

We went end of July in 2008. It wasn't horrible. It was hotter than hell and rained everyday, but that's Florida for you.

I thought the crowds were manageable though. With the longer summer hours, we'd hit rope drop, take a break mid day and go back in the evening and it wasn't too bad.

The only things that sound be n sync, are dirty dishes.

So, other than that, how was Disneyland? Did your son bounce back from his illness?

My phone started acting up last week. Couldn't open the camera app without it crashing. Did some Googling, and found this is a known issue with certain Samsung Galaxy S5s and is eligible for a swap at your friendly local Verizon store. I took it, hoping to just walk out with one of the dozens I'm sure they have in stock. But nope - it's a corporate phone, so they have to go through the proper channels and ship me one at work sometime this week.

Yeah, it turned out to be some kind of a 24 hour thing. He was up and ready to go the next morning. He was tired, but we earned our nomination for parent of the year by throwing him in the stroller and telling him to suck it up.

Well... kind of. We knew he'd be dragging after being malnourished for a day, so we had him ride in the stroller from the moment we walked out of the room that morning whether he wanted to or not. DD either walked or rode on my shoulders for most of the day. We just tried to keep from wearing him out. He was dragging a bit for the first day in the parks, but he got back to his normal self by the second day.

What are your August dates?

Barry

Glad to see you are posting today... I was getting worried after your texts last night.

‘Afternoon all…
Work has been dramatically interfering with my Dis time again. I’ll try to catch up a bit but I’ll start off with good wishes for all and congrats to all young’ens and dads alike where deserving.

Afternoon all. Hope all you convention goers had a good time it was fun following the progress.

That’s entirely too much bad collected up into one painful post.
Prayers are offered, but it feels like far less then you’re deserving of.

Just stopped in to wish everyone a happy monday and hope that all of your futures are filled with Disney magic

Well thanks for the hope of some Disney Magic, that’s greatly appreciated
But… I’m pretty sure that “happy” and “Monday” are incompatible to the point of being oxymoronic.

Unless it's a Monday spent at Disney that is.

can some one please tell me going to Disney at the end of July is not a big mistake? I have done end of Aug and liked it but not sure I am going to like the July crowds.

Not going to Disney would be a mistake.
The school calendar has almost always forced us to go down there during June and July so we’re vets of that particular season. It’ will be mightily crowded, but no worse than say a holiday week or Spring Break times (Christmas week was far worse in our experience). Have a good plan, keep your priorities in order and be willing to adapt and y’all should manage just nicely.

Pick the Pats or the Seahawks? Sorry, football season is now over. Pitchers and Catchers report in 31 days.

Pretty much my sentiment.
If at all possible, my plans for Feb 1 will be completely devoid of all television transmissions.

Welcome home and back to the work-a-day world.
You had your share of misfortunes on that trip. Particularly glad DS healed up and y’all were able to get into the parks though.

So what was your overall take on DL?
