DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Barry

Glad to see you are posting today... I was getting worried after your texts last night.
Boss has today off, so I decided to do the same...while still sitting at my desk. ;)

I'm not going to lie - it was a rough game. Like I said last night, I going in, I didn't expect them to win. But building up that large of a lead and squandering it away was a real gut punch.

What are your August dates?

August 20-26th is what we have booked at YC. I'm pretty sure those are the final dates. We were up in the air if we were going, but DW (I look like this after,:eek:) told me to stop being stupid and that we were going. Normally she is the one that does not care much if we go. So, that's all I needed, just waiting for the 180 day mark to go crazy.:good vibes

We also are looking at DVC if we can find something and that was one of the factors, but after two very reasonable offers (in my opinion of course) got turned down, we are still waiting on that. I actually spoke with one of the sellers directly and it seems like the everyone is holding out due to the Poly coming on line and thinking it makes their points more valuable. I guess we'll see. We keep looking for something reasonable that would allow an annual trip around October/F&W.

Will you be there then?

:lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2: My boss is here. I politely explained that I got in around 1:30AM from the game and that I would pretty much be useless all day. He laughed, we discussed the game and he has pretty much supported my lack of production today.:thumbsup2

So what was your overall take on DL?
That is kind of a loaded question. I definitely plan to elaborate more on my thoughts of what DL is to me in comparison to WDW in my TR.

I enjoyed it. I'm thrilled to have finally had the opportunity to walk in the park that has Walt's fingerprints all over it. It was beautiful. It was similar to WDW, yet vastly different. If I ever have the opportunity to go back, I will in a heartbeat.

That said, it is probably going to have to be a scenario where I'm going to be in southern California for another reason or at least out west to other destinations as well and DL is a stop along the way.

But all things being equal, if I'm planning a family vacation and we want to go somewhere for a week with the main focus being on the parks and resort I'm going to pick WDW every time. Even staying on property at DL, you don't have that "Disney bubble" that you have in WDW. Heck, at WDW you can leave the fringe of the property and still feel like you're in that bubble.

It was also kind of a shock that the first glimpse I ever got of Carsland was the back side of the façade, right behind some convenience store and a hotel as we were driving in.

Saw the pictures. Looked like you all had a great time. How did the run go? .

The races went well, did the 5K with Sean, Grace and his charity group and the 10k with Sean. We were not aiming for our personal best. It was very cool running through the parks and backstage areas of DL and CA.

The Half was good as well, a lot of local cheer squads and bands came out. A ton of people made really funny and uplifting signs, the 2 I liked the most were ; "hurry up Theresa!! I'm hungry!" And "staying up all night to make all these signs, was tough too!" And the 501st Legion came out and lined mile 8, which was awesome! Those guys have amazing costumes, it was really fun outside of the sore muscles lol.

How is everyone?

Howdy fellow dads, feels weird that I haven't posted in a few days. The cell service at Grand Californian stinks!!

Had a great trip and great races! Had fun meeting up with Sean McTupper and Richard Grady, we had an awesome lunch at Ariels Grotto (yes we did have kids with us, but no Jasmine so we didn't do a DisDad Princess pic). Sean and my DDs had a great meet up as well, they really enjoyed riding California Screamin together!

At LAX now on the way home :( and for the Disdad Nsync fans, I was in the same corral as Joey Fatone.
Sorry I missed you guys! And we were even staying in the same hotel...

I got Sean's number, but then I wrecked my phone on Thursday. I had good cell service in GCH up until that point. :lmao: :rotfl2:

Where was your room located? I was in 3142... basically across the hall from the rooms overlooking DTD near Ridemakerz.

You're right, I should let it go, lol

You can always blame it on deflated balls... :lmao:

Pretty sure you have many years of Conference Championships left with that Luck fella. We realistically only have a couple, if we're lucky, with TB12.

Afternoon gents. Congrats to the Pats fans and condolences to the Colts fans. Sorry Barry, Bears fan here so ya know............... Got a business trip up to Chicago this week, gonna take some time to help the Balckhawks find their defense :sad2: Have a good week Dads. Prayers and hang in there staying strong for DW. Glad you had a good time and meet, safe travels back home. WTH is a DisDad Nsync fan and please tell me we do not have any here! Should be a Man Law against being a DisDad Nsync fan.

I didn't want to single out any of the guys and I couldn't remember his game shows, I think he was on dancin with the stars also.

I'm very happy with where the Blackhawks defence is so don't go messing with it! Lol

It seemed like a crazy few days, we hated that we missed you as well! We were in 2022, our view was the courtyard that the monorail goes to that faces DL, we were able to see the fireworks every night, well whatever the roof wasn't blocking lol

Boy to think if I hadn't gotten the flu shot. For all the years I've given this stomach everything it's wanted and more I don't know why it hates me so. rofl. Probably needs a dole float.

Initial weekend went okay. There will be a lot of back and forth to Sarnia when we are able so thus weekend we will head back. Mostly just sitting around letting Ho and the girls as much time as possible. There is talk of chemo and radiation but he'd have to pass breathing tests first and we don't see that happening. Everything is One step at a time. DW and I had three hours driving to talk and while he'll fight as best as he can, he's tired of the mess. Took him for escargot to a place that charged way more then quality should allow and DW commented that his bucket list was done. Lol. No regrets at least.

Granted if he really valued life he'd maybe stop lighting another smoke up every fifteen minutes or so. Sheesh.

Another area of talks went to salvaging the trip in August. There will be one I think barring he is still going which in case we will stick close to home. No way we will go away if he's still around to visit or care for. The trip will be much smaller in scope since we likely won't have 1) the money, since he has nothing we will be footing all the costs 2) as much time as DW's boss Only allows so much time off so once it gets to the nitty gritty she'll need time off.

If we pull it off well still get a week in ... Sorry Jim it'll likely be August 28-sept. 5th. But I might shift it a week earlier to fit it in.. Next year will be the big trip we envisioned

Lots of DVC conspiracy theories out there as it relates to Poly. For what I can put together, the Poly Bungalows were point priced so high no DVC member would purchase to use them. But, DVC annual dues would off set the cash customer construction price. Then, at a future conspiracy date, the poly bungalows will decrease points, resulting in studio points increase. Thus, all those who purchased at Poly will not have enough points for their stays, which will leave more openings for those with non-Poly points at 7 months.

I'm just happy with 27 more years on my BWV contract. Be patient and find the contract at the right price and resort.

I doubt I could have noticed any signs if I ran. :lmao:

We are all well. Oldest had a swim meet this weekend, swam some 200s for the first time, and lowered her previous times by 3 & 5 seconds. Youngest starts back up with indoor soccer. School and work are about the same.

I hope so. I don't think those balls kept us from tackling your RB, SMH

Congrats to oldest DD!! DD keeps saying she wants to play baseball this year. Not sure how that will go.

On the signs, honestly those are 2 of the ones I remember and were funny. The ones I cannot remember mainly said Go! You can do it! And I would think to myself " You go Beverly yourself!!" Lol

For those not FB friends, the Pirate Princess turned 21 today. They were going out last night at midnight but all the bars were closed. She decided her first legal drink tonight is going to be a Long Island Iced Tea. That was her mother's drink of choice and it is somewhat in her honor. I imagine she will have a headache tomorrow.

...We do have one boy who has never played competitive basketball before and he is obviously way behind everyone else. He scored his first basket, I think maybe ever, on Saturday and the boys and parents went crazy. WE ended up giving him our player of the game award and there were a few tears from him and his dad. It didn't take an hour for him to share it on Facebook. It makes me smile just typing this post.

Have a good one everyone.

Great job Darcy. Little victories like that making coaching kids enjoyable.

...At work, but REALLY tired after getting home around 1:30AM this morning. Patriots game was a lot of fun.

...Your wish has been granted. Patriots win!:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

Glad you and son enjoyed the game. And don't whine about getting home at 1:30.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's injury. Hope it heals quickly and congrats on the accumulating victories for the kids' teams.

can some one please tell me going to Disney at the end of July is not a big mistake? I have done end of Aug and liked it but not sure I am going to like the July crowds.

Two words: Hot and Crowded. Both are manageable though. Two of the best Disney trips I had were over July 4th. Hydrate (have a glass of water with your beer and pretzel) and have a plan. The pools are a nice treat midday in July.

Pick the Pats or the Seahawks? Sorry, football season is now over. Pitchers and Catchers report in 31 days.

I used to be able to look at basketball this time of year but both the Heat and Gators are struggling. Seton Hall is playing well though and may even make it to the tournament if they continue with it.

Yeah, it turned out to be some kind of a 24 hour thing. He was up and ready to go the next morning. He was tired, but we earned our nomination for parent of the year by throwing him in the stroller and telling him to suck it up.

Glad to hear he bounced back. Looking forward to reading about your exploits.

You married a smart woman. Well, other than the marrying you part of it. Good luck on getting a DVC contract.

Again, sorry to hear about his illness. Best to you and your family.

monday ownage!

Based on last august, i'm not sure the crowds are much different. Seems it's pretty much busy all summer now. I have never gone the end of july so it's hard to compare, but i am thinking you'll be in disney. What could go wrong?:thumbsup2

if it bothers you that much, maybe you should go at the end of august and i can buy you a dole whip.:)

july disney crowds or hanging around eastern pennsylvania. Just think about it that way.

g

we went end of july in 2008. It wasn't horrible. It was hotter than hell and rained everyday, but that's florida for you.

I thought the crowds were manageable though. With the longer summer hours, we'd hit rope drop, take a break mid day and go back in the evening and it wasn't too bad.

‘

well thanks for the hope of some disney magic, that’s greatly appreciated
but… i’m pretty sure that “happy” and “monday” are incompatible to the point of being oxymoronic.

Unless it's a monday spent at disney that is.

Not going to disney would be a mistake.
The school calendar has almost always forced us to go down there during june and july so we’re vets of that particular season. It’ will be mightily crowded, but no worse than say a holiday week or spring break times (christmas week was far worse in our experience). Have a good plan, keep your priorities in order and be willing to adapt and y’all should manage just nicely.

We have always gone last two weeks in August when the southern kids are back to school so a little less crowded. We do ok in the heat we do parks early and then pool all day then back to parks at night. But we cant do late Aug this yr with daughter leaving for college. I guess my fear is the I want kids to enjoy the trip but not have to wait 3 hrs to get on a ride. This may e our last trip with older daughter for a bit. July = 9/10 on crowd level where as late Aug is 7/8.

Congrats CJ and a very Happy Birthday to PP. I know I post it a bit, but dang they grow up to darn fast don't they?

Are you staying on property so you can get FP+ 60 days out?

If so, using RD to hit rides standby and getting FP+ for some of the must do's, I wouldn't think you'd have a problem getting on rides without massive waits. Sure the lines will be longer, but if you plan it right, you won't be waiting in those lines. :thumbsup2

Last night's dinner was ready when the Packers were up 2 scores late in the 4th. My wife (not a Packers fan) tells me the game is over, come eat. I'm not saying she jinxed it, but....

Pick the Pats or the Seahawks? Sorry, football season is now over. Pitchers and Catchers report in 31 days.

July Disney Crowds or hanging around Eastern Pennsylvania. Just think about it that way.
Well done Bambi.

How you guys won a Super Bowl with McCarthy running the show is beyond me. As an in game coach, he's worse than Denny Green ever was.

Morning guys.

Had a nice middle school basketball win last night. Dug a hole in the first quarter only to tie it up early in the 3rd and end up with an 11 point win. We finally had our last player get his first basket of the season so now everyone has scored at least once.

Have a good one.
