DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Well done on the weight loss. I couldn't do keto, I'm not disciplined enough. I go for portion control and exercise, and lost about 25. Bacon wrapped asparagus sounds delicious. If I lost 83 though, I'd be 8 stone.
Thanks Dan!
I had to look up stone. I knew the conversion at one point, but had forgotten it. Had to look up the origin of using stones vs. Kg or pound also.
If I ever got to 8 stone, I'd be a skeleton. My goal is to lose 100 lbs+, so I'm 4/5 of the way there.

It doesn't take as much willpower as you might think. The food tastes great and the carb cravings are simply not there.

I work out as well, but I find when I work out more, I lose less because I'm building muscle. Still a win, just realize not to get discouraged when the scale doesn't move.

Good morning from Vero gain. Lots of changes here since we last stayed. They closed Sonyas, their signature restaurant, which was just served by same kitchen so made sense in long run, increased the size of outdoor pool bar and QS restaurant, renovated Shutters to Wind and Waves (smaller, with non- restaurant indoor patio seating), and use their convention room for buffet (catering) character meals. We tried them all, and I would just go Green Cabin Room and QS.

Lots of fishing boats this AM, and watched someone catch a fish already. DDs going kayaking this morning. You all have a great day.

I've been doing the keto diet since November (with lapses for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Disney and a couple other here and there). I've lost 83 lbs so far. Trying a new recipe tonight...bacon wrapped asparagus. Now, that will not be going down the grate or I'm going in after it.

Just made my first keto pizza...yum..ow hot, yum. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Congrats on the weight loss. I will have to start something as well when I get back. Can't change the old, but maybe change the other.

This is my mini summary of the last trip 10 days ago. With 14 people, 3 of them under 5, 4 Millennial's , 2 Seniors, 2 in late 30's 1- 6m pregnant, And us 3 Commando's., so how did it go:confused3. When at the timeshare ( will never do that again) I had the days planned out, I told them that I'm not promising anything since timing is a issue , along with some hit and miss opportunities, 1st day we ended up at Dis Springs had dinner and had to get Hard ticks for 11 of the crew :faint:, so we had a 40min wait we shopped a bit and left everyone watching the roaming piano, when 3 of us got back my son and the 4 Millennial's were gone:eek:. They said they were going to get candy and slushie's Now I had to think like my son, since he learned from me it was not to hard:rotfl2:. So my wife and I went to Gharhridi's for the free chocolate and then headed for Goofy's candy factory for the free slushy sample they finally answered the text and were at the Boathouse watching a band, at this time I was quite impressed with my son at 12 getting everyone around DS:thumbsup2, he did make a wrong turn after the bridge (understandable since every time we have gone it was differs from construction). As for the rest of the group they did not not make it past Disney Corner:scared1:, Day 2 & 3 to come:bored:.

Yes, DS is tricky with the new layout. I haven't got used to it yet with all the changes either, so well done for him.

Thanks Dan!

Yeah, I'm just under 6' 2, so 8 stone would not be a good look for me. I could go another 13 pounds, I'd like to keep in the 180 range. I have no idea about kilos, and it's our official measure. We buy all our meat in pounds. Good luck on the rest of the journey. Sounds like you have found what works for you. I must admit I skipped the potato salad last night, I have the sofa time in the back of my mind.

I edited my post, but after you replied...see edit above. Food tastes great, I have way more energy, don't have the carb high/carb low yo yo effect and the cool thing is, when I decide I want something bad enough, I have it without regrets...I imagine when I get to my goal, I will eat some carbs, but will still try to limit them since it causes that sluggish effect. I used to take naps all the time and now, I think I've had maybe 2 naps in the last 7 months.

Well, the bar or Green Cabin room isn't of as much importance to me, but I really liked Vero when we went before, so hopefully it will still be good when we go back. Considering maybe next year or year after.

Thanks Norm. If you'd like to give it a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how well it works, how good you feel, how much more energy you have and how it's not as difficult as you might think. I have done a LOT of research and have a bunch of resources I could share with you. I'd also be willing to give you my number so if you need someone to talk to or help you if you're struggling. Trust me, I get no benefit from offering any of this other than to help another DISdad.

It will forever be DTD for me...some things (as with the Redhead in PotC) should just be left alone. Get off my lawn!

Some older grumpier guy reminded me that I should be posting this here for those wise souls who avoid Facebook.

DisDad Club Convention #7 is happening Jan 9-13 2019!
It is still in the planning stages, but so far we're around 35 DisDads coming in for this convention along with our (growing number) of local DisDads.
A great many Dads are staying onsite, but we have rented a group house as well that has filled up with 16 Dads.

So far the official get togethers are:
Jan 9 - tbd
Jan 10 - Biergarten followed by a hearty exploration of fermented beverages at locations to be determined (World Showcase/Boardwalk/DisneySprings)
Jan 11 - Picnic at the DDCC offsite house
Jan 12 - MK is park of the day, evening tbd
Jan 13 - tbd (likely a brunch)

As with every DisDad convention, family and friends are welcome to all events, though we do ask that you let one of us know if you are attending and with how many so that we can add you to reservations. There will probably be a group pickup for the picnic, but getting back is up to you (we recommend Uber or Lyft) since we will be enjoying a dram or two of rum once the picnic starts.

I will try to remember to come back and update information as we firm up other plans.

I hope to see you there!

Morning guys.

Quiet Sunday morning over here. Just getting ready to marinate some t-bones for tonight's BBQ which will be followed up by a soccer game and some refreshments.

Dan , 2.2 pounds equals one kilo. Happy to help.

Norm enjoy the beach.

Everyone else, enjoy whatever it is you get up to.

I'm not on FB, although calling me wise is not very wise. ;)

I will be there solo and will have a rental car, so I can save a few folks uber/lyft fees.

Darcy may have already told you. If not, make that 36

Good morning Gents!
Loooong time since I stuck my head in here. Hope everyone is doing well--DW just started packing for our upcoming trip! Doing Cabins 6/20-21, OKW 2BR Villa 6/21-26, then one final night at BCV 6/26-27. If any of you guys are going to be around, shoot me a message on Facebook.

For the record I am not the older grumpier guy. :)

And in an ironic situation, my oldest dd - the swimmer, self-proclaimed beach junkie, and certified life guard gets queasy kayaking on the ocean. I figured it would be my younger dd that would get bored and give up. DW is afraid of the ocean, so I get a 50 minute ocean kayak opportunity this morning. It's a 2 person clear bottom boat. I saw some sea turtles, mate.

The red head is still there, although now she is a pirate. I could do without all the food places here except Green Cabin Room. The other guests can have the others. I told DW we outgrew bad character buffet meals years ago, yet, she still books them.

I appreciate the offer and might take you up on that. I lost weight on Adkins, but couldn't maintain. I also lost weight eating fruit & veggie smoothies and working out in the gym daily. Once i started the 2nd job, I gave up both of those.

Thanks for remembering us over here. It's still 4 more years before we can join the ddcc fun.

Afternoon guys. You know that not much is going on here when the highlight is some weeding in backyard.

I've lost 83 lbs so far.

That is an accomplishment. Congratulations.

were at the Boathouse watching a band, at this time I was quite impressed with my son at 12 getting everyone around DS:thumbsup2, he did make a wrong turn after the bridge (understandable since every time we have gone it was differs from construction).

Interesting first day. You taught your son well.

Sounds like you are having a good time. I haven't gone to Vero in a while. With all the changes, I need to get there sometime.

Thanks Terry,

Quiet Sunday morning over here. Just getting ready to marinate some t-bones for tonight's BBQ which will be followed up by a soccer game and some refreshments.

OOOH, that sounds good. I have chili cooking on the stove and watching Florida play in the BB Super Regional.

I will be there solo and will have a rental car, so I can save a few folks uber/lyft fees.

Darcy may have already told you. If not, make that 36

Made any decisions on where you are staying?

Hey Tony. Have a blast on the trip.

Cool about the turtles.

Afternoon guys. You know that not much is going on here when the highlight is some weeding in backyard.
If it's a hispanic wedding, it can be very entertaining and likely they'd invite you to join in.

:lmao:
Doh...I typed that and then realized you said weeding. I left what I typed for comic relief for everyone else. Big difference one letter or duplicating the wrong letter makes.
:rotfl2:

That is an accomplishment. Congratulations.
Thank you, sir.

Made any decisions on where you are staying?
I have a studio at SSR reserved right now, but...I will likely stay off property and save the DVC points for later in the year.
Also debating about maybe staying at my mom's about 45 min away and driving back & forth. Since I'm not looking to do rope drop or go b*lls to the wall any day (AP gives me the realization I can take more time and don't have to kill myself on any given day), that might be an option since the commute back & forth won't bother me much. I'm still looking for deals closer to property though (Mousesavers has them so often) since really all I want is a place to crash at night...doesn't have to be anything fancy.

Cool about the turtles.
::yes::
When we were there, we rented the jet skis and we had to worry about hitting the turtles. The CM ensured us they would get out of the way and hitting them wasn't going to happen. Still nerve wracking when you're going along at a good clip and see one come up a little ways in front of you.
