DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning Men! Things are quiet around here at the j o b so I'm taking the time to explore the interwebs some. Anyone have any good websites worth reading/visiting? Oh and 13 days left....

Matt

If I send you my bills, will you pay those as well? :lmao:
As long as they will take CJ's CC number...yes.
We're getting close to lawn mowing season. I think this might be the year to cancel our yard service and let DS take over mowing.

My kids each take a third of the yard, so I give them 5 bucks apiece. Sometimes I mow it all myself because I'm still a cheapskate.
I get my lawn treated, otherwise it would be full of weeds bc of my neighbors. I actually just negotiated the price down since there were 3 companies vying for my business. I still mow it myself. I let my wife cut the front yard once. ONCE. And my DDs are 10 & 7, so no hopes of letting them take a crack at it for a few more years. Although I do put them to work weeding. I have a riding mower and push mower. I sue the riding mower, but it's really for the leaves in the Fall. But it gets the job done quickly in the Summer, too.

I kind of prefer to do it myself. I mean, for me, mowing is sitting for a couple of hours each week and driving a zero turn mower. So I call that, therapeutic. Pop in the ear buds and catch up on some podcasts while I sit on my butt and drive the mower around the yard.

TRUTH! My John Deere isn't 0 turn but it has a beverage holder. So I always have a beer when I am on my riding mower. My DW just shakes her head.

I'd probably enjoy it more that way. But I have barely over a quarter-acre, and as I said before, I'm a cheapskate. So it's a push mower for us.

I'm seriously considering just installing some artificial grass in my backyard. It's pretty small to begin with, and we got a big swing set/sandbox/fort thing last year. So the extra shade of that plus the fact that it's so high traffic, I can't get grass to grow on close to half my yard even if I did want to mow it.

In other news, I do my Southwest online check this afternoon. Leaving work tomorrow at 1, packing the rest of the stuff up, grabbing the kids from school and heading to the airport.

I'd rather pay "a guy" than the "doctor".

Well I'd prefer not to pay either, but I'm still a fairly tough old geezer so for now I'll do it myself.

Must be nice.
I can do the ear buds bit of it, but a riding mower ain't happening.
Too pricey and I've got nowhere to store one that would protect it from the weather.

Yah...
I'm a cheapskate too and that's another reason.

Actually, I did "pay a guy" for a while after wrecking one of my ankles in a car accident, but then things got tight cash wise and everything that wasn't a necessity went out the window.

Artificial would be excellent. Just letting it be a natural meadow would as well, but I ain't getting approval for either of those options from the boss.

Oh, and have fun storming the castle!

And how big is your yard? 200 acres like Andy makes that a great deal. :lmao:

Lock up the their various phone and device chargers.
They get them back when all work is done.
.

What do I do when they misbehave? Send them to your house?

I might be one of those neighbors. I never treat mine, but I do keep the weeds cut low.

That would be difficult on my 1/5 acre lot.

I want to dig mine up, pour concrete, and paint it green.

Afternoon gents.

Sorry that the DL time had to come to an end.
Worse that you had to go back to work and have that loss reinforced.
Tell us about the trip when you get some time

Wish had "a guy" to do that work.
Actually I wish I had the extra cash to pay "a guy", because I'd be diverting that into a fund to get me back to Disney more often.
I will get a DL overview out to you guys over the next couple of years

I used to do all the yard work myself and enjoyed it. However, work travel got to a point that made it difficult to fertilize & treat at the right times and get the grass cut. Would be out of town all week then it would rain on the weekend and lawn would look like heck. Plus with DD playing club soccer for several years weekends were spent traveling all over the southeast. The guy we use is used by several in the neighborhood and he has not changed prices in the past 5 years plus stays on schedule, etc. I have DS but I use him to keep up with the landscaping work from keeping everything pruned and trimmed to weeding as we have a ton of landscape beds that need constant attention so that is what I work on with him to get my yard work fix in.

Enjoy Storming the "Big" Castle and we want pics of the kids from their first trip

I'm so with you on that. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to just get rid of grass altogether. I keep trying to put in more gardens with annuals so I have less to mow.

I think 200 acres is the entire state of Delaware.

Well, it is nice because I've got a good mower. If I didn't have a zero turn, it would take me about half a day to mow. Cutting at 9 mph and zipping around all the obstacles saves a ton of time. It's pretty much my only option for as much as I have to mow with it. It takes a solid 2 - 2 1/2 hours as it is.

:rotfl: Not quite that big. But there's a lot of grass and quite a few trees and buildings and various other things to mow around. That's what eats up a lot of time.

Our yard is only about half an acre. If I'm paying DS to mow it, i'd like to go back to an old fasioned reel mower. That way I wouldn't even have to pay for gas.

I ordered a whole bunch of samples from one company at one point and then used them to put artificial grass down on the inside of my cube,

You going to pay him? How much is the going rate for our children cutting the grass?
I'm not sure. I was thinking about $20 a week. DS is almost 13 and I'd like him to start working so that he can learn how to manage money.

I totally approve of that idea!

I think that's a great idea. I started earning money by mowing for an elderly friend of the family when I was around that age. A good way to learn some responsibility and how to save for something you want.

Well, OK. I had to dig through the archives for pictures from their first trips, but ask and ye shall receive...

Madison - age 7 weeks (2004).
We were in Epcot, in the back of France where we found a nice quiet spot to sit and relax a bit. I'm holding Madison, and all of a sudden Belle and Beast come out from behind a bid door. Belle walks up to me, doesn't say a word, and just takes Madison, goes and sits down with her and starts talking to her.

Evan - age 1 year (2007)
Remember Toon Town? Mickey and Minnie had meet & greets back at their houses during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Minnie's was out in her garden gazebo.

Ryder - age 5 months (2012)
We were down in WDW in August for a wedding. My DW was matron of honor, Madison was flower girl, Evan was ring bearer and I was...well, I watched the baby.

Afternoon gentlemen.

Been kinda quiet around here. I got a riding mower too, even though I don't really need it, but the price was right and I can have a Summer Ale while I mow.

Barry have fun storming the castle.

I agree... mowing is my 'alone' time. :music:

Be careful... don't wanna get pinched for DWI.

Don't take tho the wrong way but... I hate you.

Have the kids blow more dandelion seeds all over the yard.

+1
