DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Our yard is only about half an acre. If I'm paying DS to mow it, i'd like to go back to an old fasioned reel mower. That way I wouldn't even have to pay for gas.

Hey, that's even cheaper than me! I like it!

I'm not sure. I was thinking about $20 a week. DS is almost 13 and I'd like him to start working so that he can learn how to manage money.

I think that's a great idea. I started earning money by mowing for an elderly friend of the family when I was around that age. A good way to learn some responsibility and how to save for something you want.

Between lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and Christmas/birthday money, my daughter saved up enough for her own iPod. It definitely works as a teaching tool.:thumbsup2

Have the kids blow more dandelion seeds all over the yard.

We seem to do well with clover. If you don't look closely, it can pass for grass.:rolleyes1

I will get a DL overview out to you guys over the next couple of years

Years? Don't rush on our account. :lmao:

,

I buy the cheap one from Walmart. I thought about one of those mowers, but then I would have to sharpen the blades.

Mine went door to door shoveling snow to earn money. I've offered to pay them money to cut the grass, but so far, they don't seem interested. I wasn't offering $20 though.

Remember Toon Town?

Oh, yeah. I spent a lot of time at the princess pavilion with the dds. Good seating and AC.

!

I just consider those as landscaping with pretty yellow flowers.

Great news guys, follow up with the surgeon this AM and she said they got it all, no chemo!! Now I am on the short cycle for colonoscopies but it beats the alternative and kids will need to start screening at 40, but forewarned is forearmed.

That is excellent news!
Most excellent indeed.

On the mowing question, my last mower died and I left in in the jungle mass I was cutting. Left it there hoping a tree would grow through it.

Rough day today. Got an email from one of my best friends (since high school) and his brother died of a heart attack. He flew in from DC and had to leave to to go to his brother's house about 2 hours away. I sat with his mom for a while today until one of her friends could come over. Stressful day. The good news is the Brit arrived last night and we are hitting Key Largo for a couple of days. Scary thing is his brother was my age. Life is short guys.

Sorry to hear CJ. Prayers for you and the family.

Re the grass cutting discussion, due to heavy shade on the south side of the yard, the house blocking a good portion of the north side and having dogs in the back yard, we gave up on grass a long time ago and mulched the entire yard, so no grass cutting, just a once every three year day where we lay down 18 yards of cedar mulch. Dang, this is the year.

I seem to have created a Star Wars Geek. Stretch almost has season 1 of Rebels committed to memory. That's impressive since I still haven't let him see the Clone Wars and DW won't let him watch the original trilogy yet.

Bad news. Prayers for the family. Youa re right about life being short. I try not to think too deeply about that. Watch the news for a few days and you realize how quickly things can turn.

That would be a very rough day.
Prayers offered, and may solace find all during this difficult time.

A few days on Largo should do you well.
