Bad Idea of the Day :smokin:

Hey, this isn't working. Anyone got a lighter?

If he wasn’t my nemie, I would say Jim came through big time with unbeliveable seats for the game. Fenway is all they make it out to be even if the Sox stunk up the joint. It was cool to also hang out with Paul and Jim’s buddy. Good times, good friends.

While I was away, the Pirate Princess was certified in coral restoration and she continues to pad the resume. I don’t know if I posted this pic from an earlier restoration trip.

It's OK, you can say it. I ROCK!:lmao::lmao:

It was good to finally meet up. Glad you enjoyed our BLEEP city.

Congrats to PP. She must get it from her mother.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Don't worry, he has plenty of water back there to throw on the gas fire.

Morning guys,

Got back yesterday and am still trying to catch up on some sleep. Had a great little trip. The wedding was a lot of fun and I was able to see old friends. Can’t say enough about the Boston part of the trip. I loved touring around Boston. Great city. If he wasn’t my nemie, I would say Jim came through big time with unbeliveable seats for the game. Fenway is all they make it out to be even if the Sox stunk up the joint. It was cool to also hang out with Paul and Jim’s buddy. Good times, good friends.

Sounds like an awesome time. Nice job on the meet-ups, and glad to see the Pirate Princess still doing good work.

They stopped kick ball around here, can't even play it in gym class.:sad2: dodge ball too.:sad2::sad2: Apparently the good athletes were making the bad athletes feel bad and the sports were too violent.

I hate the whole if my kid isnt good he/she should still get a trophy. Losing, seeing someone better than you are great ways to learn what hard work and motivation is needed for the adult part of life.

Glad it all worked out. That's what I was telling DW!:confused3 Maybe you could give her a call and explain it to me. She won't yell at you.
Be more than happy too, here to help.
Morning guys,

While I was away, the Pirate Princess was certified in coral restoration and she continues to pad the resume. I don’t know if I posted this pic from an earlier restoration trip.

Summer is now officially winding down. The kid left today to see her Aunt for a few days and other than getting her Rescue Diver certification, not a lot going on until she heads back to school. May go with her to the Keys for a day or two but am more or less home bound until the October trip to the World. All is not lost however because my cable provider decided to add the SEC network. Can’t wait for the season to start.

A lot of catching up to do here but until I do, here is hoping everyone has a great week.
PP doing great stuff there proud papa. Agree, summer wind down seems to hit earlier and earlier with DS starting back at school this Friday and DW heading back to college next week.

My tongue would jump out of my mouth and flop around if I said that. You live in a great place other than one thing. That thing is called winter. And yes, just like your kid's athletic talents, she gets it from her mother.

Good meeting up Bubba. Hopefully we can see each other in October. Would like to say hi to your daughter.

I hate the whole if my kid isnt good he/she should still get a trophy. Losing, seeing someone better than you are great ways to learn what hard work and motivation is needed for the adult part of life.

Totally agree. Life does not give out awards out for participation. I actually like it when my kid has a setback and to watch her reaction. Whining is not allowed and if it is important to her, get back on the horse, get better and do better next time.

Tuesday tennis ownage. What a long day. 7 to 5:30, with 2.5 hours of drive time and 1.5 hour lunch. Way too much effort for me.

I've worked with people who would have a cigarette smoking while wearing the nasal cannula for their oxygen. They seem confused when you ask them to stop.

I show my dds picture of your dd scuba diving and running to inspire them. While they are in better shape, they definitely have inherited my lazy gene. It works briefly.

DDC III: Dis dads dodge ball.

Agreed. My dds kept saying how great it was that I made it to the finals. I was proud that I played well enough to make it there, but still told them it sucked not winning. I did receive a participation t-shirt and blue water bottle, but earned my red water bottle by making it to finals. :lmao:

Unless you work for a state university. Participation gets you paid, hard work gets you more work, and incompetence gets you promoted. Sadly, I still can't get promoted.

Thanks guys & sorry Norm, just got off the phone and all is switched to a July 7 night on the Fantasy. A few more bucks but beats loosing money or not able to go with all 4 of us. For those that question some of us "why do you always do Disney" - here's one for Disney as it was simple, easy and the cast member was outstanding :thumbsup2

Darn. I'll settle for the next Disney cruise you can take me on. :lmao:

So have you built a course in your yard yet?

Please. That is way too much effort. :crazy2:

Proud papa moments for you.
While I on the other hand find PP to be inspiring and demoralizing. Unloading the dishwasher is considered an accomplishment in my house!

So I take it that: “’Cause some folks you just need to be prayin’ for”, is a might too general an explanation.
No way. My kids are too inquisitive. They get that from me. They want to know why they have to do something and how things work. I try to refrain from using the parent trump card of "Because I said so!"
:lmao:

I am very competitive but not to the point of getting into a fight on a court, field, etc. I'm more likely to walk away from a debate with the opposition and stick it to them by playing better. With that being said, kids aren't being taught to be competitive.

I am 110% for good gamesmanship, shaking hands, playing hard but fair, not running up the score, etc. But we NEED to stop with the participation awards. If they want to do that for the little kids, fine. But as soon as you legitimately start keeping score, it's time to dial back the everyone plays the same amount of time and everyone gets a trophy crap.

That is all.

This seems fitting, given the title of this thread!
Somebody get this kid a job as an Imagineer! And, kudos to his Dad for letting him build it!

That's terrific work on his part. I see videos like that and it helps instill faith in the future generations. He could prob up the excitement of that by introducing some fireworks. :lmao:

OK, men. I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is a big and exciting day!
I have a work cookout at noon and then I have my post-op appointment for my knee around 3:30. I'm hoping they have done a good enough job to allow me to return to my exceptionally average athletic ability.
Then I have a chiropractor appointment.
Dinner with friends at 6PM and then I'm off to celebrate a friend's 50th Bday.

Morning Duck,

Thought I would beat you to the good morning guys post. Seems I am getting back to my normal routine of being up at 4:00 am.

Yes, I am proud of my kid like all of us are proud of our progeny. HOWEVER, things like unloading the dishwasher and cleaning her room are major and rare occurrences.

Have a great hump day guys.

Morning CJ!

Kickball was enjoyed by both DD's last night and I'm happy it went well. We have a rule that if you start it, you after finish it.

I was looking on the 2015 dining plan list, and it looks like a number of restaurants that used to be included are not :(

OK, that gives me hope.
Your comments reminds me of my niece. Ridiculously smart. Had a nice scholarship to Case Western for Bio Medical Engineering. Graduated cum laude . She's always been gifted. you look at her room and there is just crap everywhere!

Awesome. Glad to hear that it was enjoyed. There is an adult kickball league here. I have a few friends that play, but it doesn't work into my hectic schedule. I'd like to find the time for something like that.

Totally agree. To me, youth sports should teach fundamentals and sportsmanship. And that includes knowing how to be a gracious winner or loser and come back the next game to try again.

Now from the fundamental side... if they want to make it a t-ball league where instead of keeping outs, everybody bats through the order once per inning so that they can get all get a chance to hit, I'm good with that. But if they're thrown out at first, make them go back to the dugout and keep track of the runs. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

It seems like every year when the next year's prices are released there are always some that aren't listed right away. Usually restaurants operated by third party vendors that just haven't signed the contract for the next year yet. I haven't seen the list for 2015, but this could change as we get closer. :confused3

I actually like it when my kid has a setback and to watch her reaction. Whining is not allowed and if it is important to her, get back on the horse, get better and do better next time.
At the parent/teacher conferences for my son last year, we had to ask his teacher to set him up to fail. He was getting straight A's on all of his tests and assignments. We asked her to really challenge him, because coasting all the way through grade school and getting complacent that he'll ace everything could be a real shocker when high school starts - especially if he gets into the IB program.

But we NEED to stop with the participation awards. If they want to do that for the little kids, fine. But as soon as you legitimately start keeping score, it's time to dial back the everyone plays the same amount of time and everyone gets a trophy crap.

My son played in a coach pitch baseball league this summer. The only score that was kept was to know if a team scored 5 runs in an inning (mercy rule - each inning is 3 outs or 5 runs scored) After the last game, I glance over into the other team's dugout, and the coaches are handing out trophies to all of the kids. They weren't league trophies - remember, there was no wins or losses that anyone kept track of. The coaches just decided to give all of their kids trophies for participation. :sad2:

I was looking on the 2015 dining plan list, and it looks like a number of restaurants that used to be included are not :(
Disney is still negotiating with most of the non-company restaurants. They'll all slowly be added back into the plan as they settle on contract terms for 2015.

My son's league this summer was coach pitch. Aside from that, the standard rules of baseball applied. In our 4th or 5th game, our first baseman caught a pop up, then stepped on 1st base to double off the runner that took off for 2nd. The opposing coach was livid that we were "playing those rules." :sad2:

Geeze... learning the rules of the game is a pretty significant part of learning the fundamentals of the game, IMO.

And I bet that a kid on that other team learned to make sure he knows where a ball in the air is going before he takes off. :thumbsup2

‘Morning all…
Hope all are doing as well as can be expected.

Odd times down this a way. Not going to get into details but “fundamental change”, seems to be the watch words that I can apply to a great deal of the events, practices and habits I’ve become accustomed to. Of course change is truly the only constant in life to begin with so I shouldn’t be too surprised.

An eventful day to be sure.
Here’s to hearing good news on from the doctors.

Yes, I am proud of my kid like all of us are proud of our progeny. HOWEVER, things like unloading the dishwasher and cleaning her room are major and rare occurrences.

An acceptable trade off given the level of accomplishment she has completed thus far and continues to maintain.

Kickball was enjoyed by both DD's last night and I'm happy it went well. We have a rule that if you start it, you after finish it.

Was this a league event? I haven’t seen kickball played anywhere since I was a young’en.
Glad everyone was enjoying themselves.

I suspect that’s not a request that many teachers receive.
Did they up the requirements and expectations like you requested?

We teach our team all the fundamentals - hitting, fielding and rules of the game. Some of our kids may not be the best at it, but they all know how to properly swing a bat and field a ground ball. Other teams - not so much. It seems that other coaches are more worried about the post-game snack than actually coaching. Half of the kids on other teams don't know proper hitting stance. And it drives our other assistant coach nuts. He's also the head coach for one of the high school teams in the city. He was complaining to me during one of the last games: "None of these coaches at this level teach anything, so by the time these kids get to me and want to play high school ball they don't know how to catch a fly ball and I get my name in the paper for going 5 and 15!":rotfl::rotfl:

I suspect that’s not a request that many teachers receive.

Sort of. There was a big group project coming up, and she specifically grouped in with some of the kids she suspected wouldn't do so well on it. Either he inspired them or did all the work himself, because they still did really well on it. :headache: He did get some more challenging work later in the year, so we did achieve our goal.
