I'm going to have to stay off these boards for a few days while I finish the movies. These plot twists sound familiar.:scratchin
Nah, Barry and Paul have just been drinking too much. Everyone knows that Harry throws the wand into Mount Doom.

You may know the Pirate Princess is an intern at the UM’s Marine Science program. This week they are partnering with the James Jones Foundation to show inner-city teens marine life. Today, the majority of kids came from homeless shelters. She had a blast leading the tour but not as much as the kids. Some of them were very interested in the science aspect of marine ecosystems but one asked when they could play basketball. One kid told her she wanted to be a doctor, either a pediatrician or oncologist (her words). Hope she makes it. What struck her was when one boy at the start of lunch asked, “We get lunch too?” A told her they also have snacks later in the day and a box dinner before they go home. His response, “Wow, I had breakfast, now lunch, then diner plus WE GET SNACKS! I usually only eat once a day.” They also gave them a bag to take home to their families. Makes you think. Tomorrow is shark tagging day with some kids, the press and VIPs. She gets to go out on the boat Wednesday and Thursday. More resume padding.

Those are encounters that shape you for the rest of your life. Well done to the Pirate Princess!

Sounds like a wonderful experience for her. That's awesome.

Maybe it will make her rethink her need to shiv people for no reason? :confused3

Nah, Barry and Paul have just been drinking too much.

That goes without saying.

What a great experience.

But how did that kid plan to play basketball underwater? :confused3

I'll have you guys know that I don't drink any more. :littleangel:

But I don't drink any less, either. :drinking1 :thumbsup2 :drinking1

Men - I'm going to provide you all with some post padding opportunity right here!:yay:

I have convinced DW to have a "Back to School"\"Last Summer Hurrah" picnic\BBQ\Party.

I am inviting all of our circles of friends..work, parents of our kids' friends, neighbors, college friends, family, nemesises (nemesi?) childhood friends, and last but not least...any DISDads that are in the Pittsburgh area mid August.

In short, I'm inviting a lot of people. We will have plenty of food and beer and our guests will certainly bring their share of apps and desserts. But here is the big question.

I am planning on grilling burgers, hot dogs and kielbasi\brats.
Given the volume of food and the perpetual revolution of replacing cooked meat with the next round of carnivorous treats...what is the best way to keep the grilled meat warm, without drying it out?

I planned on getting sterno trays and burners, but am concerned about keeping the meat moist. Someone had suggested using beef broth.

I figured if ever there was forum designed to answer this question, it's this one!

I expect that we'll have people coming and going all day. I don't mind manning the grill several times and know that a few of my buddies are up to that challenge as well, but I'd like to be able to mingle with folks, consume some adult beverages and whoop some people in horse shoes or corn hole.

When we have large parties, we rent a small steam table to keep things warm. They work really well and with the damp heat will keep the food warm and will not dry out. Not exactly sure how the steam gets in there, but it does. We have a place close that rents catering equipment. I think it was like $30 for the day and we had to picket up.

Sounds like a great party. Not sure I'll be in the area, but if for some reason we are I'll be sure to stop by.

You're totally downplaying the Marcus Smart era in Boston! We've got a great chance at the 8 seed in 2-3 years!

That's what scares me.:scared1: We do have 742 first round picks in the next few years. We should be able to acquire a lot more mediocre talent to keep us in that #8 slot for years to come.

Awesome job to PP! It does put things into perspective and makes you appreciate the life we have. We usually volunteer at the food bank a couple of times a year. DS volunteers at "The Giving Tree" when he can.

Sounds like the internship is an great experience. Continued good luck to DD.

Really nice thanks, but we're ready to get the kids back. Starting to miss ol' whats-her-face and the other one..:rotfl2:

I think the trip ship has sailed for this year :sad1: Even with the mass discount we got for the cottage, just can't afford it (and DW can't get the time off this year). I'm pretty pumped up for the cottage this year anyways, it might be one of the last times we head up there, as Mom decides what to do about their trailer. Hate missing the hard-ticket event at DHS though...

That being said, we keep adding and expanding next years trip, going to be a big one, already adding another day to it, and thinking POP for one last stay, and going to look into the water parks more seriously. Also the following year is almost a lock, albeit more scaled down.

Quiet time away at the cottage sounds great. We usually take at least a few days in NH, VT or ME to just relax and decompress. Looking into a long weekend between now and the Disney trip to just sit around and do nothing. Have a great time.

I'll take plenty of pics of the DHS event and post what I can.

Spending the entire trip at WDW? I'm not sure next year is in the cards at this time. Looks like we may be planning some other non-WDW (I know-Shame on us) trips. DS want to see France, we need to get to Oregon and CA to visit family and a DC trip is in there somewhere as well. Of course the college fund may take priority and I may end up in the kiddie pool pretending to be on vacation.:goodvibes

Morning all.

And after all those picks, UK will still have more pro players on their team. :lmao:

Why did you doctor my post to make me look bad?

:lmao:

You don't need any help in looking bad. :lmao:

I'm on here not to think. It is a shame that all this tax money is spent and kids still only report eating one meal a day. And, even worse that there are parents who only budget enough money for their children to eat one time a day.

Congrats to Andrianna. A resume builder and great learning experience.

Like you, I usually stay on the grill and cook the meat in batches so that there is not enough time for it to get really cold. I usually just use a dish with aluminum foil on top. If necessary, just put the dish in the oven to reheat a little without drying it it.

Seriously? With that avatar you can say that?

;) :rotfl2:

Oh, he said it. And I think he meant it.:lmao::lmao:

DD had two hoop games last night. She had 9 points in the first game and kept us in the game, but she had to leave early. She left 2 minutes into the second half to go to her other game. We were down 2 when she left with 12 minutes left in the game. We lost by 18. Ouch! The opposing coach had some good things to say about her though, which is always nice to hear.

In her second game, she scored 18 points in a losing effort. She was clearly the best player on the court and with her hard work in practice deserves all the credit. I'm a proud dad today.

Another game tonight. We already beat this team pretty easily early in the season. DD is about a foot taller than the other teams tallest player so it really isn't fair, but we'll take it.

Sounds like a great experience, CJ. We never have to look very far to find someone who has it worse than we do.

It would just be short of three weeks giving time to drive down, three nights in Cocoa Beach to go to Kennedy Space Center and a couple of other things plus thirteen nights at Disney.

Sounds really cool. I would like to say one of these days, but probably will have to see it from afar. Looking forward to the videos.

Here's my own two videos taken from the grandstand:

Race Start: http://youtu.be/GfMgcg-33yQ

Race Finish: http://youtu.be/jyUgkradW3c

My favorite part is getting right down on the rail to watch and hear all 24 horses and 4 wagons thunder by. Here is a more professional video, from a few years ago taken by someone with much better video equipment than my iPhone, from that lower vantage point just off the rail.

Enjoy!

As promised, here are the two videos I made.

Race Start: http://youtu.be/GfMgcg-33yQ

Race Finish: http://youtu.be/jyUgkradW3c (an error just occurred when I went to this video just now, maybe give it a few minutes for youtube to correct itself).

Each race/heat is usually about 1 min. 12 secs. in length.

The other way this becomes fun is that people place "Loonie" ($1) or "Toonie" ($2) bets on teams. We go as a group of 4 so, with 4 horses in each heat, it works out well, each person gets a chance to pick 1st 2x (9 heats a night) and some lucky person gets to pick 1st 3x (usually the person with the worst record for the night).

Enjoy!

Apolgies for the double post. There was an error when I drafted the first one. I didn't think it landed.

No need to apologize. 3 posts about the same video? Awesome post-padding. How do you think the rest of us got these post stats or why there have been so many threads? It surely ain't all this wisdom. :lmao:

Also, do the Chuck Wagon races have infield parties like the KY Derby? And, by infield party, I mean lots of drunk, college girls showing off their :goodvibes:goodvibes

Hey guys,

It has been a long time since I posted. Life is still nuts between the restaurant and some home renos.
