DIS Dads DDC XXXII: A Dole Whip in Paradise

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Lots of excellent, fried and BBQ'd food on the grounds. Including one delicacy that I believe is DisDad approved: Bacon wrapped pork belly. Yum!

I know I am biased, but I think many of you Dads would enjoy making the trip up here some July for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

I think your former statement above made the latter one obvious. :thumbsup2

Hi guys! Remember me?

:confused3

Life has been providing me with "alternative plans" lately.

:woohoo:

I mean, uh, the place hasn't been the same without you. :rolleyes1

Glad to see everyone is still here.

Everyone?

Hopefully I'll pop back in here more frequently (don't hold your breath)

Have a nice trip to Edmonton!

Not a big deal to the rest of you but SEC Media Days start today. Even though earlier than years before, this marks the beginning of the end of the doldrums of summer and the beginning of the college football season. Can't wait until the end of August.

I know what you mean. July is secretly a crappy sports month.

Those of you attending DDC3 over Marathon Weekend....I've made a post regarding some ADRs that I've made.

Check it out HERE

And didn't your hat say something about your thong? :rotfl2:

Enjoyed meeting up with you and your DD Jim. Sorry you couldn't make the game with us but it beating the Sox took may have been too much for you. I hate to see a grown man cry, Adam was bad enough but those seats helped him get over the loss.

Glad your enjoying the maple syrup and that your DS had a good pitching weekend.

Yes it did, but don't tell anyone the thong was pink.:rotfl2::rotfl2: I wish I was there. That 5 hour drive to Long Island was not fun. Glad you enjoyed the game. I figured Adam would be happy and sad at the same time. Tell him there's always next time.

Making maple and bacon muffins this coming weekend. DD has perfected the recipe.

Was looking at the video of our trip to the UK the other night and we decided to have a full English breakfast this morning. Fried eggs, sausages, potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and scones.

I know it isn't Hamburger Helper but what can you do

Hey, you broke that egg. In my house that would not go over well. Better try again and do it right this time.

I have German engineers in the office that haven't stopped smiling all day.

We had a pretty good time but of the 3 cruise lines that we have sailed on, NCL is in position 3. There was nothing major wrong but it wasn't what our other cruises have been either.

I think we would still cruise with them again but if DS was with us, we would definitely need a bigger cabin. Our cabin was bigger than the other couples with us but I wouldn't want to put 3 people in it.

So your saying it was no Disney cruise?:goodvibes

Morning....Hope things are well with everyone, I need to go back and catch up the past few days. Prayers, congrats and welcomes to all applicable. Enjoying a weekend off, spent yesterday checking out the work Mom ordered for her family headstone (added dad and her brother to it) and did the general running around. Got dinner from one of Dad's favorite places, a local Fish and Chip place. Today's a rainy day, so will just relax, watch a movie, play some cribbage.

Hey Brent. Nice to have a weekend off once in a while. Sounds like you got some rest and relaxation. Still time to book that late August trip to meet in Epcot.

Had a good nap this afternoon. Time is just crawling by. :faint:

Been a few days since I checked in here. I was stuck in jury duty for 2 days. Lesson learned: if you want to accuse someone of stealing your stuff, you may want to have proof that you actually owned the items in question. Or that those items even existed.

Good to know. So, if I call the police to report you stole my cocaine, then I need a receipt for the initial purchase. That clears it up. :lmao:

And Hermoine is his twin sister (she looks great her metal bikini in book 4 after Hagrid makes her a slave), Ron turns out to be a smuggler with a broom that can make the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs, and Dumbledore finds out that It's A Trap!

I thought that it was after he battled the black knight to a draw, ran away from the French flying cows, and faced the peril at Castle Anthrax.

Who wouldn't be??? :confused3

I ain't afraid of no ghosts.

DS baseball season finally came to an end yesterday with a 3-2 loss. After going down 3-2, the starting pitcher was pulled and then DS pitched the last 4 innings and only gave up 2 hits with 4K's to keep them scoreless, ending the season with an ERA of 1.24 (last 18 innings he only gave up 7 hits in total and 2 earned runs with 13 K's). Overall a good season (although a little long) with a great group of teammates.
!

Congrats to DS. Tough loss.

I made it down to the grounds to watch two nights of Chuckwagon racing (Cowboy NASCAR) on Friday and Saturday night. I will try to post some video. It's a lot of fun all around. DW and I go with the same couple every year and watch the Chucks and the Evening Grandstand show/fireworks which is always entertaining. Heck, it's a good excuse to sit out on a summer night, watch races and drink beer!

Little known fact, none other than Walt Disney himself was the Parade Marshall for the 1965 Calgary Stampede Parade.
RW

You had me at beer.

Network down, you guys using satellites or something to run your network?

Email manager, that sounds like a job I could get the government to fund.

Government designed network,so yes, it's dependable.

I think I speak for most of the dads here when I say that we think you should wear pants to dinner and anywhere else that you go.:rotfl2:

:lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

You've heard of KYians not wearing shoes? I'm going to start a new thing.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, please don't and keep all pictures of such shenanigans to yourself. :rotfl::rotfl:

Sunday evening hello. Busy day with yard maintenance, pruning, trimming, dead heading, cleanup, etc as we will enjoying DaWorld the next two weekends. Laid out all my clothes for Disney and packed up for this week's business travel - golf to sport coat attire and packing up the clubs. Have a good week gents..

Have a great trip!

Morning Guys.

Monday morning and I am back to work. Why do I have so much email?

Just delete it all. That's what I do. If it's important they'll send a new email.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Page 240 ownage. 10 more before the run down starts.

Hi guys! Remember me?

Nope, can't say I do. Who are you again? :rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

Have fun in Edmonton. And relax, your working way too hard.

Well done DS!!

Thanks.

That's it, I am not going to go to Fenway with you! OK, that is a lie. Getting close.

Riley has a plan based on a new TV agreement coming in two years. They will be competitive but he is waiting for the floodgates of free agency to open then. Still will kick the Celtics behind.

Ummm.....Pretty sure the Celtics have decided to play in the SEC this winter so they can finish around .500. Playing all those professional teams is HARD.:rotfl2::rotfl2::sad2:

They kind of ruined it for me though when they went into the whole explanation about Harry having more magical powers than everyone else due to the high mugglechlorian count in his blood cells.

I'm going to have to stay off these boards for a few days while I finish the movies. These plot twists sound familiar.:scratchin

I really like near the end of the last movie where he pulled the wand from the stone and was declared King of England!

I really like near the end of the last movie where he pulled the wand from the stone and was declared King of England!

You forgot about the part where he uses his wand to change the color of his shoes from blue to pink and back to blue and then back to pink and then back to blue again only to lose one of them on the steps as he was leaving the castle at midnight!

There is only one professional SEC basketball team. Right Norm? Now football is another story.

Yes it did, but don't tell anyone the thong was pink.:rotfl2::rotfl2:...

TMI. Please leave the thong at home when I am up there.

Hey, you broke that egg. In my house that would not go over well. Better try again and do it right this time.

That was a double yoke. The smaller one broke when it hit the pan. The other came out over easy perfect.

Have you gotten to the point where Harry is locked in prison but digs a hole in his cell's wall with a rock pick? After swimming through a sewer pipe he steals Voldemort's money and opens a resort in Mexico with Morgan Freeman.

No, but I just saw where Dumbledore is recruiting muggles to drive revenue and attendance down so low that he can relocate Hogwarts to Miami.

We're heading north in a couple weeks to visit my family and friends in Edmonton, looking forward to a little decompressing time.

I am sure you have been there before, but just in case you haven't, be prepared, us Calgarians are fairly confident that the only good thing coming out of Edmonton is the road south to Calgary. :lmao:

I've never heard of Chuckwagon races described so accurately. Well done!

Thanks! It is a pretty fun spectator sport!

Is it Monday already?:sad2::sad2:

Congrats to DS on a job well done. I miss the days of "endless" baseball seasons from my youth. Your teammates make the difference in how fun the season is. Sounds like DS was fortunate with his.

Heck, it's a good excuse to sit out on a summer night, watch races and drink beer!
This was the only part of your post that I focused on. :lmao:

Hi guys! Remember me?

Just checking in, couldn't believe this thread is still active.

Life has been providing me with "alternative plans" lately.

Dealing with staffing issues at work, travel softball is in full swing for DD1 and DD2 decided that she wanted a cast for her arm one day at gymnastics. It's been a rollercoaster lately.

Glad to see everyone is still here.

While I was scanning the recent posts this made me LOL:

I've never heard of Chuckwagon races described so accurately. Well done!

Hopefully I'll pop back in here more frequently (don't hold your breath) but you all can still catch me on the Book of Face.

Prayers for those in need, Praise for those deserving, Bacon for all.
Welcome back. The real world turns me into a prodigal DISdad every now and again. Life is always better when I have time to spend here with this crew :grouphug:

There is only one professional SEC basketball team. Right Norm? Now football is another story.

Right. Calipari is doing a great job of recruiting all those pro players to UK, although some seem to be going elsewhere for some crazy reason. Let's not talk about football.

. Life is always better when I have time to spend here with this crew :grouphug:

Certainly tag worthy, potentially certifiable. :crazy2: :lmao:

Men - I'm going to provide you all with some post padding opportunity right here!:yay:

I have convinced DW to have a "Back to School"\"Last Summer Hurrah" picnic\BBQ\Party.

I am inviting all of our circles of friends..work, parents of our kids' friends, neighbors, college friends, family, nemesises (nemesi?) childhood friends, and last but not least...any DISDads that are in the Pittsburgh area mid August.

In short, I'm inviting a lot of people. We will have plenty of food and beer and our guests will certainly bring their share of apps and desserts. But here is the big question.

I am planning on grilling burgers, hot dogs and kielbasi\brats.
Given the volume of food and the perpetual revolution of replacing cooked meat with the next round of carnivorous treats...what is the best way to keep the grilled meat warm, without drying it out?

I planned on getting sterno trays and burners, but am concerned about keeping the meat moist. Someone had suggested using beef broth.

I figured if ever there was forum designed to answer this question, it's this one!

I expect that we'll have people coming and going all day. I don't mind manning the grill several times and know that a few of my buddies are up to that challenge as well, but I'd like to be able to mingle with folks, consume some adult beverages and whoop some people in horse shoes or corn hole.

You're totally downplaying the Marcus Smart era in Boston! We've got a great chance at the 8 seed in 2-3 years!

I'm going to have to stay off these boards for a few days while I finish the movies. These plot twists sound familiar.:scratchin

Ahh, so you've seen that episode of Robot Chicken too huh? Dang it...

what is the best way to keep the grilled meat warm, without drying it out?

Put it in your stomach. Allow beer to accompany it. :thumbsup2

You may know the Pirate Princess is an intern at the UM’s Marine Science program. This week they are partnering with the James Jones Foundation to show inner-city teens marine life. Today, the majority of kids came from homeless shelters. She had a blast leading the tour but not as much as the kids. Some of them were very interested in the science aspect of marine ecosystems but one asked when they could play basketball. One kid told her she wanted to be a doctor, either a pediatrician or oncologist (her words). Hope she makes it.

What struck her was when one boy at the start of lunch asked, “We get lunch too?” A told her they also have snacks later in the day and a box dinner before they go home. His response, “Wow, I had breakfast, now lunch, then diner plus WE GET SNACKS! I usually only eat once a day.” They also gave them a bag to take home to their families. Makes you think.

Tomorrow is shark tagging day with some kids, the press and VIPs. She gets to go out on the boat Wednesday and Thursday. More resume padding.

Touching story. It's stuff like that puts things into perspective.

Hey Brent. Nice to have a weekend off once in a while. Sounds like you got some rest and relaxation. Still time to book that late August trip to meet in Epcot.

Really nice thanks, but we're ready to get the kids back. Starting to miss ol' whats-her-face and the other one..:rotfl2:

I think the trip ship has sailed for this year :sad1: Even with the mass discount we got for the cottage, just can't afford it (and DW can't get the time off this year). I'm pretty pumped up for the cottage this year anyways, it might be one of the last times we head up there, as Mom decides what to do about their trailer. Hate missing the hard-ticket event at DHS though...

That being said, we keep adding and expanding next years trip, going to be a big one, already adding another day to it, and thinking POP for one last stay, and going to look into the water parks more seriously. Also the following year is almost a lock, albeit more scaled down.
