Thought I would post a few pictures from the weekend.
Stayed at a friend’s house. We have known each other since high school and remained friends ever since. I arrived in the morning, the kid came in later. Registration for the Nike Half was near his house in Georgetown so we took a short cab ride to pick up her race packet.
The place was packed with Alpha Females and to tell you the truth, it was a bit scary. One thing they did was put every participant’s name on a wall and we found hers.
She enjoyed it and ended up buying a shirt. Tonight’s entertainment was to go to the Nationals game. First time I was at that ballpark and I have to say, they did a nice job. Great seats near the third base line.
Rain almost canceled the game but the sky cleared up and it was play ball. Ended up being an hour delay.
The Presidents playing to the crowd.
Great game, although a bit cold. It reminded me why I love baseball.
The next day was free and I told her she had a pick of what she wanted to do. She found out there was going to be a protest against the Keystone pipeline at the Mall and that was where she wanted to be. Not meant here as a political discussion but I was proud of her that her “fun” day at DC she spent doing something she believed in.
Marching on to the Capital
The next morning we woke up at not the Disney Marathon insane hour but close to it. Hailed another cab and we were soon at the starting line. Still cold outside.
She was in the second wave and here is part of her group taking off. The race was at least 95+ percent women with a few men tagging along. As a father of a daughter, it was a nice to see that girls/women have athletic avenues open to them.
Two hours later I see this smiling face.
No medal but they gave out Tiffany necklaces. She did really well finishing in 2:06 and a new PR.
All in all a good weekend. She found out that a HS friend who is at Penn was running along with her roommate. Took them all out to dinner the night before the race and made sure they ate well. I remember my starving days in college. Ended the weekend with a great cookout Sunday night. Good food with a good friend and my daughter. Not the worse way to end a weekend.
