Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

I did the Atkins diet once. It was fun to eat all that steak, bacon, hamburgers, etc. I did lose a lot of weight, but couldn't keep it off and couldn't keep eating that way. The call of pizza, beer, cake, & ice cream was too great.

I hear ya. No 'diet' is meant to be long term. I find it ironic the wisdom that I impart to my girls, yet don't follow myself:rotfl2:

I've been Type I Diabetic since I was 5. So diet and nutrition are front and center for me at all times. I can do without sweets but cave on the salty, deep fried items.:crazy2:

I also remember when I was in high school and couldn't gain a pound no matter how much I ate. Miss those days!

Fun fact...when at WDW, I actually have to lower my insulin dosages significantly just b\c we do SOOO much walking. Despite all the imbibing and rich foods, all of the walking seems to negate the food.:thumbsup2

I just heard from the mother of another Blue Angels crew chief that the Indianapolis airshow has been cancelled; all military jet teams are grounded until further notice; and the military will not support any airshows this season.
I haven't been able to verify that but have no reason to doubt it. :(

That's a real bummer! What the heck will the crew do??

:wave2: Don...

Where ya been?

Hey Brian! Been around... mostly on the other board though. How's the weather up there?

Good news. My back can take me out for a month or more at a time. Of course, I have a herniated disc. The doc wants me to lose weight, but when I exercise, my back hurts.

Congrats. I think you can mention this F company, even if it isn't the sponsor of this thread. Maybe not. Either way, hope it goes thru this time. Which resort did you buy into?
Wow that's a viscious cycle. I find my best weight loss comes when I get sick, but I don't wish that on anybody.

These points are in SSR. We do so many quick last minute weekend trips I didn't want to pay a premium for a resort when I'll never get to take advantage of the early booking window.

With our next trip coming up in April I've been starting to look more into car rentals... specifically trying to get the lowest deals. What I find really amazing is that I made a reservation in January for 8 days of rental in a Full size car for $450... today I was able to get the same number of days and size for $180. I'm pretty sure I can get even better pricing as time gets closer to our trip (end of April which is a slow time), but I got to thinking... I wonder how many people simply make a reservation and never check back for lower pricing? Missing out on 60% discount would be dereliction of duty I would think! :lmao:
We've had good luck at hotwire. I believe their rentals are non-refundable though.

Thanks, Guys!
For the newer members, here's an explanation:
My son David has been in the Navy since 8/2006 and is currently an AO2 assigned to the Blue Angels. He is in his third year as the crew chief for the "Boss" and the #1 jet. As a third year crew member, he gets to take a ride in the two-seater #7 jet and his ride is scheduled for Saturday in El Centro, CA, their winter training base. Due to the impending budget cuts, the Blues may not get off the ground this year for the airshow season. I'm really hoping he gets his ride! He deserves it.

I really hope they get it worked out so that he can fly Mike. It's a bummer to loose a privalege that you worked years for out of no fault of your own.

Either Balcony or Orchestra...

In my opinion, first or second row balcony would be the way to go for this show...

We saw it from a balcony and enjoyed it mightily. What I did notice though was that there were a hand full of the visual images that would have been a little more impressive from the floor and back a few rows. It was all just a matter of the angle from which you would have been viewing the particular scene at the time. Either place will be good, but if we go back and see it again this summer (which I’d like to do) we’ll try to sit on the orchestra level this time around.

Thanks for the feedback on the seats guys. I wasn't the original question asker but I have been thinking about this too.

Since DW got diagnosed as gluten intolerant we've cut way back on anything wheat. I'm also the only one who eats potatoes (except French Fries) so those are not in the house either. Everyone one has been losing weight except me. Funny how candy and bottles of pop seem to jump into the cart when I do the grocery shopping. :rolleyes1

That stinks. Hope the gas bags in Washington get this figured out fast.

I was the smallest kid up until the third grade, and then I was the fattest. My parents never did teach me anything about nutrition. Now, at 18, I have to take responsibility for my own weight. I was in shape and healthy weight while I was at college where I lived on a food budget, played basketball most everyday, and worked at UPS at night. Even at the deli/bakery on weekends, I stock piled "damaged" food for me to take home during the week. Once I got a desk job and stopped exercising at night, that started the decline. Then, marriage and kids cut out most of my other activities. Now, it is a big battle. Fortunately, I have no health problems, other than my back, but I realize as I age that it and other things will get worse.

SSR is a nice resort, especially Congress Park, but the Springs and Paddock now have those feature pools. But, it is so big and there is always availability. I do hope it works for you this time.

Our old logo used to say "Where Education Pays". Clearly, no one is envious of KY's educational system, so this sign is way better and more accurate.

My tale similar. I was fine in high school but as soon as college hit I stopped exercising and eating bad. After meeting my now wife I got back into exercising which helped a lot. When I exercise I lose weight and fast. My problem the last 10 years has been as soon as I'm seeing results and my goal is in sight something gets in the way and things go down hill fast. Since the kids have been born it has only gotten worse.

Those of you that have seen the Lion King broadway show......

Would this be a kind of show that may be better to be viewed from a balcony location?

I know sometimes you lose some visibility sitting low in a theater for some of these shows.

I saw it several years ago from the mezzanine level. I think it is a show built to be seen from stage level not from above. There is a forced perspective to many of the scenes that is lost when you are looking down at it.

I agree with Brett, the Atkins/Southbeach/Paleo diets are great for losing weight fast, but hard to stick to long term. Go for it Norm!

Don't do south beach you can't have BACON!!!! You can only have ham like the Canadians.
Sorry Canadians but ham ain't bacon.

:groom: A new record for me.... 1 post in an entire thread!! :cool1:

Randall... LOVE what you've done to the place :thumbsup2 Well... excpet for those penguins. :lmao:

Looks like everyone else got the thread-opening text but me. Glad I could chime in here on page 38. Happy Tuesday all!

The penguins do suck.

I don't know who you're going through, but when the name of the place has to be censored, it can't be a good sign.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hey, guys! Did I miss anything?

No. No you did not.

Ahem.

No.

That would be Kansas. Where the inventor of the game coached, and then was succeeded by the the father of basketball coaching, Phog Allen. The vast majority of coaches who have made any significant contribution to the game an ultimately be traced back to Phog Allen and his progeny.

Weak argument... Naismith invented the game in Mass. due to the harsh winters, and Phog Allen went 11-13 over his last 2 seasons as a coach, in the years that people actually started paying attention to Basketball.

Larry Bird is from Indiana.

Hoosiers = Greatest basketball movie ever.

Indiana wins.

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Kansas has that movie with Toto and the witches though. So there's that. :thumbsup2

Wish they would get the search engine going again (2 days now):confused3, makes it hard to follow all the threads out there

I saw it on the news. We go almost every year so we are very disappointed.

Hoosier Daddy? :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I hate Gophers

Thank you Paul :thumbsup2

John Wooden is from Indiana and went to Purdue. He is considered as possibly the greatest coach ever and had zero to do with a coach in Kansas.

Good morning. I knew that IU was going to lose that game. It's been their MO all season. Beat a good team, lose to an unranked team. We still have a lead over MSU for the regular season title, but the schedule ahead is tough.

Heading up to the great white north of South Bend today. Hope all of you guys getting pummeled with bad weather stay safe :thumbsup2

Good morning.

That's the story of my life too.

Thanks for the support, Paul.

That.

And we even have an IU fan acknowledging a Purdue grad. Basketball fans in Indiana come together to defend the state sport.

Thanks guys....I think we're actually going to have a big enough group going to get some group sales discounts! So we're shooting for the "Orchestra" level - which are like $78 with the group discount.

I got an email from Disney Visa yesterday giving me a chance to get tickets before the public does - but I can only get 9 tickets that way. Looks like we're going to need 15+.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! :thumbsup2
