What does shiv mean?

From Wikipedia:

A shiv (possibly from the Romani word chivomengro, "knife"[1]) is a slang term for any sharp or pointed implement used as a knife-like weapon. The Oxford English Dictionary suggests shive, a razor, documented in 1915, as the root word.[2]

The word in practical usage is frequently used when referring to an improvised bladed weapon. Shivs are commonly made by inmates in prisons across the world. A shiv can be anything from a glass shard with fabric wrapped around one end to form a handle, to a razor blade stuck in the end of a toothbrush. Synonyms include shank,[3] chiv, and chib (from Scottish slang, as exemplified in the novel Trainspotting, "chib" was originally a name for a blunt weapon such as a mattock handle or tree branch). These terms, along with "shiv", can be used either as a noun or a transitive verb, referring to the weapon or the act of attacking with such a weapon respectively.

Don't watch many prison shows or movies ?

Must be a north/south thing. I know the term shank, or so I have been told that is what it is called ;)

Unless that north/south division is at I 70, I doubt it. I'm more familiar with the term shiv than shank.

I'm glad everyone is working things out. Like Andy, I don't take (or intend!) anything personally here. Assume good intent! Only one comment, if CJ's daughter is going to shiv Paul, can she wait until he pays his share of the dinner bills?

Good point. I wouldn't want you guys badmouthing me on here about being a deadbeat while I was recovering from a run-by-shiving. I'll make sure to pay up before the race...

Thinking about driving to the Keys to watch the game. Not sure though. It is only going to be in the mid-seventies. May have to watch the game at the indoor bar instead of the waterfront one.

Since you are starting ahead of her, may I suggest you try for a personal best. You can thank me later for the motivation.

And I triple dog dare you to put your tongue on one of the stadium support beams at the game tomorrow. It won't stick, I promise.

Seriously, enjoy the game. The Phins won't put up much of a fight.

Thanks, should be fun. Going to be a little bit cold, but it wouldn't be a game at Gillette against the phins otherwise. :thumbsup2

We'll still make fun of you, but not about being a deadbeat :lmao:

I must have missed something but hope all you guys are working it out like mature dads. If you wonder if you are mature that is when the barber spends more time trimming your eyebrows and ears than the rest of your head. Don't ask how I know.

Christmas tree is down and most of the decorations packed away. Always feels good to get that done. Four inches of snow but Spring is coming.

Noticed a couple of things over the past few days while cruising our boards...
1. There is a real sense of camraderie here.
2. Folks genuinely care about each other's personal lives as it eveident from both the willingness to ask for prayers and the generous amount of prayers offered up by others.
3. No one is too serious and most of us tend to mock ourselves in addition to others.

Glad to see folks keeping level heads and working things out. Like brothers.
"Brothers don't shake hands, Brothers gotta hug!"

I hope that the air is now cleared and any misunderstandings are forgotten.

Now to important things. Norm, who are you rooting for? Kentucky or Louisville?

Yeah, I never thought much about it, but I guess it is just a good cautionary reminder to be careful with certain topics or situations.

As for the important thing, I guess since the game is final, it is too late now. I actually do not have a preference. UK has the tradition, but I have degrees from UL and WKU and DW has a degree from EKU. I enjoy both programs being as highly ranked, which brings recognition to Kentucky for its basketball tradition.

After the game, we went to Red Lobster for dinner. I had lobster, and the others crab and shrimp. While there, I saw another not so great tradition. A dad gave his 1 year old son his can of Copenhagen to hold. Gotta get em started early.

Watching The Avengers. Good movie. A lot of awesome super heroes. There's Black Widow, Thor, Black Widow, that other guy... And did I mention Black Widow?

First of all Norm... :welcome: back. The incident the other night was not intended in any way to offend you to a level that you would have taken it so personally that you would not return.

As for the personal shots, I did to back and re-read the discussion, and don't feel it had to escalate to the point that it did.

And yes, the personal shots about being a post padder with the consistentcy it was being flung my way did have me annoyed enough to push me to that edge.

As for earlier in the thread, when I edited your post to reflect that you were a drug dealer... That was clearly a joke. I don't feel you took it as a personal shot at the time. I do believe however, as a way to justify the comments the other night you may be grasping at straws to point the finger back towards me.
Either way, if you truly were offended by being called a drug dealer... Who was busted as part of a massive raid... I sincerely apologize for that, and in no way wanted to portray you as that character.

I have talked to a couple of dads here offline, and shared my concern about your suddenly departure. I reall was a little bothered by that. As I don't want to be labelled as the one that chased you away.

I did say that I wanted to put this behind us, and I am sincere about that.

I like you Norm... I think you have a good heart, and some tight friendships around here.

Please accept my apologies... Write this whole thing off as "one of those things". And let's not walk on eggshells around each other.

And please... Feel comfortable around here to maintain your status as Post Leader of the disdads.

In fact Norm... When I texted you to wish you a Merry Christmas... They was sincere as well... I texted a bunch of dads x-mas eve...

The only reason I bring that up, is to show you that I really did not take it personally, and do consider you a friend.

I was actually going to text you in a day or two to clear this thing up m

I am glad you came back on your own though.

geez, i didnt get no mushy love letter when you twisted my nipples brian. :lmao::lmao:

Got SWMBO Christmas Child on DVD for Christmas. "We" are watching it. She through closed eyelids. Good movie. The older I get the mire sentimental I get. Got misty-eyed during "The Little Drummer Boy" as well.
