I know it's still over 2 months away but anyone have any thoughts on OZ? I am looking forward to it and I'm not an avid fan of the wizard of OZ , I appreciate it as a classic, we will be at WDW the weekend before its release so I'm kindof curious if they will have anything special going on for the movie release

I am anxious to see that myself. I had told Shari (mine not Brian's :rotfl:) that Wizard of OZ was one of those movies that could never be remade...then we saw the previews for this the next day :rotfl2:..I guess it is not a remake but just telling the story from a different angle.

A remake of any kind would be a total mistake, but this looks like a prequel from a different angle, which I think is a great idea, in the 2012 unofficial Disney world guide, they speculated that Disney might build a section in a park for an OZ world but that doesn't look to ever happen with the carsland announcement I assume being made during New Years rockin eve

Like it or not i think Disney is going to have to focus on older kids and aults eventually. Oz or something like that (not Avatar yuck) to rival Harry Potter.

I think it would be a cool addition to the parks, I assume HS would be the place, from what I've read is Disney would have to focus solely on their movie and not aspects of wizard of oz since Warner brothers is sue happy over it (understandably) but Avatarland is still the worst idea I've heard, still hearing its still in the works, please scrap it Disney

L. Frank Baum wrote 14 Oz books. Walt saw the franchise potential back before there even was such thing as franchise movies. He wanted to make a Wizard of Oz animated film after Snow White, but when he approached Baum's heirs, he found out they'd already optioned movie rights to what became MGM. Disney was still interested, and ended up buying the rights to the other 13 Oz books that Baum wrote in 1954. They then spent nearly 60 years in a sort of development hell. Disney did make some use of those rights, but mostly on forgettable (or wish it was forgettable) attempts.

I have high hopes for this version though. They can use the same characters, places, etc. that MGM used, as long as they appear in the 13 books Disney owns the rights to.

Thanks for that background. I have high hopes for Oz as well. Should've seen the Hobbitt instead, Brian!

I did, but the propellers are murder on my jeans.

Morning Guys.

I've been up for a few hours now, had to watch Canada beat the USA 2-1 at the World Junior Hockey Championship.:banana:

We are suppose to travel to visit my parents today but we are in the midst of a bit of a storm. Nothing plowed yet and the highway cams make driving look pretty iffy.
