DIS Dads DDC XV - We put the "FUN" in dysfunctional! Christopher's thread...

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Well then - why don't you continue to rub it in by sharing with us the contents of said lunch!

Unless it was a bologna sandwich and chips or something! :thumbsup2

Well it wasn't bologna, but it was a sandwich. A very nice sandwich, with beef and lettuce, cheese and condiments. Nothing fancy - but I didn't have to pay for it, so I didn't mind. Wasn't expecting it either, so it was a happy thing.

This particular family has not been to WDW - ever. So it was fun, fun, fun. Well, let me clarify that - the dad has, but not since 1988... so just a few things have changed since he was last there. :rotfl: But mom and the kids - never. So it was a great time getting to share, and share, and share... and the enthusiasm was just growing the entire time (theirs, not just mine). I was able to turn it from just a 2 day "let's visit the park" into a 9 day, PH/WPF&M with the DDP experience at the Poly, plus they want to check out La Nouba while they're there, and Dad might even want to do the driving experience at Richard Petty. Then when they asked me fee, and I told them how it all works being paid by the provider, not them, they were floored. I told them they could bring me a new t-shirt if they wanted to, but not to worry about a fee. At that point they said they wanted an extra night, and they'd definitely bring me a t-shirt. So yeah - it was a nice morning.

Thanks.

Not quite booming, but the trajectory is headed in the right direction, and the pipeline is filling. :thumbsup2

Yeah, unfortunately QUOTES - don't always mean (bookings).

Now if you start charging for quotes - then you'd have a business...*

Or maybe a lot less quotes... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Keep it up though, it sounds like a great start!

Interesting take on things. Can't defy your logic. You can always add on other contracts.

I like your logic as well.

We've purchased everything direct...so far, but the way prices have gone up so much so fast, we won't be doing so again when we add more.

I bet there is quite a selection in that market for resales... given the current economy. I'm sure Christopher could give more advice :thumbsup2
It certainly seems like a buyers market.

SSR began the shift back to actual 50 year contracts. SSR goes to 2054, AKV to 2057, VGC & BLT are 2060, and Aulani is 2062.
Using that I went back and re-evaluated everything. From purely a dollar standpoint SSR is probably the best value as it has relatively low annual fees too. AKV is a close second due to the slightly longer contract remaining. Given contract length and all the resorts spectacular location it'd probably be the best choice. BW is probably lower on the value spectrum given that its contract expires 18 years before BLT. That being said BW is still tempting because its so much cheaper upfront, and because of it's location between EPCOT and DHS. If we love it we'll still have enough cash to add points somewhere else on a longer contract.

later is when you realy save. we bought in, it was $56.00 per point, a night at the all stars was $68.00. point values never change. if you pay $100 per point, thats what a point will be worth 30 years from now. the rate its going, a night a all star will be $350-$400 per night in 30 years.
total per year for me with initial buy in and main. comes to about $2600.00 per year. we take two trips and stay in a one bedroom at okw.
Yup it certainly makes sense long term.

As stopher mentioned the BW contracts end in 2042. I won't be around by then so it is my daughter's problem. It is something to consider. Just realized we have had 15 years of trips out of our purchase. Lots of fun in those adventures. And you are right, the BW is in a perfect location.

By then your daughter will likely have her own family and her own DVC membership. Poly DVC should open sometime before 2040 I hope.

You can pretty much bank on it. My guess is it'll be announced before 2020, and open before 2025. Figuring that VGF's have finally been announced, and each resort takes about 3 years to construct and open. And I'm betting a 2nd location at DLR will be announced next vs. another location at WDW, which would put it out to around 2015-2018 before the next big WDW one is announced. There's still too much inventory at WDW properties to justify yet another construction project - especially when they really want the VGF to sell big! And unless they decide to add another tower at the Contemporary, which I doubt so soon - the Poly will be the final monorail resort to get DVC, and will then be the jewel in the crown for those resorts. And it could even see some sort of tower, tying it in to the design of Aulani, maximizing the space available, and not compromising as many cash rooms since the Poly truly is their cash cow resort at WDW.

Too true, too true.

But then the same holds true for any type of sales.

I did a LOT of prep work pricing out deals for customers for years in my old profession too.

So far I've had a 65% success rate, which isn't too shabby. Better would be nice, but it could be a lot worse.

I never understood how DVC worked, but now after looking through the DVC thread here in the subforum, and the info you guys have been providing here now, I think I get it....

Still not right for my family though. :guilty:

I may, however, be interested in renting points from someone in about 2 years.... :rolleyes1

Don't ever hesitate to ask questions... there are lots of DVC dads that will be happy to help out.

I'll be adding a second contract when that happens, for sure! :thumbsup2

Well... almost everyone.

I'm working today, but you know what...that's okay with me. Met with a family this morning to discuss one of my favorite vacation destinations - and they fed me lunch as well. :thumbsup2

Came home from that meeting and found 2 more quote requests in my inbox, plus a VM regarding quoting a cruise.

Then got another cruise request in my inbox.

So while I'm sitting here working on these things... I get to also check in and post here.

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF ... my I.T. guy doesn't care if I go on the DIS or not... in fact he's pretty HAPPY to have me on the DIS. :lmao:

Hmm... I thought you said your IT guy was a peanut butter beverly. :lmao::rotfl2:

I'm glad to see that things are picking up for your business venture. I hope you continue to find success.:thumbsup2

Don't take it as gospel, but watching their trends, and understanding which properties would be viable to add a DVC component to, along with other pieces of the puzzle that I may or may not have additional knowledge of and wouldn't divulge for numerous fears of damnation and doom by those who I am friends with, it is very, very likely to be the next WDW location announced. In a number of years to come. But that's all I'm willing to say. And with that I'll then do this...
