I've had a goatee for the last seven years. Tonight my two year old wouldn't give me a kiss goodnight because i was "too ouchy". Thirty minutes later the goatee is gone. DW won't see until Saturday morning, but will be highly upset. Do I tell her the truth or feign a skin allergy? I'm calling on all the disdad's power.

I
Thanks again to my nemesis Barry! You are the best nemesis a guy could have! :thumbsup2 <-- thumb
Wow, for a nemesis, he must be a nice guy to throw in all the extras. :thumbsup2

Note to self: Bet with Barry.

He pays out GOOD!
My thought exactly... you beat me to it.:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Truth. Anything else results in trouble. Definitely have to go with truth since it was done for the kid. She can't be mad at you for long if that's your reason.:thumbsup2

You're 100 % right. I hesitated because she knew I wanted a change. It wasn't until my daughter balked at our goodnight kiss that I flipped the hairy switch. Lord knows if my son told her to shave half her head, she'd do it for the Prince.:)

You could probably win some bets with your son's help.

Mark I was addressing Christmas cards tonight and it was a struggle not to send yours to "The Oblivious Family"

My 9-year-old daughter has never seen me without my beard, and she freaks out at the slightest mention of maybe, possibly, shaving off my beard. She insists that without my beard, I won't look like me.

Showed DD the chocolate cheese fudge pic and her comment was, "That is so wrong." Guess she is not made out for Wisconsin.

Tim, congrats on "Winning." Barry, let me know if you have the urge to make any other wagers.

My DD's have seen pictures of me without my beard and mustache (they say I look weird) and since I have had the mustache since I quit Dland in '81 & grew the beard in '86 or '87, I am not sure I would recognize myself without them.

Turkey Lurkey's got a video on his Facebook of his DD's reaction to seeing him beardless for the first time. It's quite funny.

A while back we were talking about kids being scared about certain rides. I mentioned that in preparation for this trip DD and I were watching all the rides at Disneyland on Youtube.

This is DD on BTMRR at WDW in March.

and here she is last week on BTMRR at DL
DSC_0889.jpg

While correlation does not imply causation, it did seem like viewing the rides ahead of time helped.

I had 2 proud dad moments last week.
1. DS was scared of riding California Screamin with me but agreed to try it once. He said dad, "I'm going to let myself be scared till I get half way through the line and then I'm going to be brave" and that's exactly what he did. He wound up loving it, and then blamed me for not making him ride it earlier in the week, so that he could have ridden it more. :headache:
2. At the end of the week each child got to pick a pin from their favorite thing. DW was trying to get DD to get a princess pin, but DD would have none of that, she wanted something from Star Tours.:thumbsup2

Great pics! I've been finding that the youtube videos help open up DD to the idea of rides that she has said "no way" to in the past. That's all I can ask is that she considers it.

I think my wife and I are going to do this for our trip this Spring. Our girls don't know we're going, which makes it hard to do the whole "view the video" thing before hand.

I'm hoping that the internet access once we're there allows us to view the videos of the park we're going to next, the night before. Not that my 2 year old will be going on anything - but my older daughter should be tall enough to go on Splash and a few others of the over 40" club! :thumbsup2

maybe extract some of your favorites from youtube and have them saved so you don't need to worry about internet??

I was going to post this yesterday afternoon, but was in such a food coma that I could barely even see my keyboard. Yesterday for lunch, my group at work went out to lunch to a Brazilian Steakhouse called Sabor. Think Ohana's, but with more meat and a worse view (not that downtown Milwaukee is bad, but it's no Cinderella's Castle).
In addition to the fancy salad bar, they give you a small round card about the size of a drink coaster. On one side it's green and says "Yes, Please". The other side is red and says "No Thank You." If you leave you card green side up, the roving meat peddlers come to your table, and deliver meat from big skewers: Top sirloin, bottom sirloin, prime sirloin, parmesan pork, garlic beef, ribs, leg of lamb, roasted chicken, bacon wrapped chicken, pork sausage.... there might be more, I can't honestly remember.

I didn't eat dinner last night and only had a couple of pieces of toast this morning for breakfast.

Went to one in NYC called Plataforma Churrascaria Rodizio.... MEAT HEAVEN! There was a long table full of greenery and crackers... I think it was just for ambiance though.

You mentioned being up by 60 which was what I saw. Sorry. I'm trying to start an NBA fantasy league. Still need a few more.

No worries. I hardly follow basketball. I limit myself to baseball and football for fantasy. I did try Nascar fantasy once, and that was interesting.

Brilliant. Not to get us started on posting pictures, but i thought of a whole Admiral Acbar Photoshop series.
It's a trap.

I edited an PG-13 rated, so I better stop there.

on marathon weekend... It's a Lap!

Well, yet another day with another bad grade so tonight there is no going to "Power Hour" at church for Ethan...I feel bad keeping him from going to church but I have to be consistant. Today it was reading comprehension...I dont know if I have to get a tutor or what...something is not right...this has just started in the last few weeks so maybe they are ramping up the curriculum and he is not getting it. I told Shari we had to call the teacher tomorrow and find out what was going on before he dug himself into a hole he cant get out of. Things where strained but quiet today with the MIL. Shari called me today and told me that Lauren told Nana today..."you should have heard what Daddy was saying about you last night"..that little booger!! I did not know she was in ear shot when I was ranting! I obvioulsy need to be more careful cause Lauren is obviously going to tell when "being pumped" by Nana! I ca't win for losing!!:rotfl2:

Hope the talk with the teacher provides some clues as to what may be behind this.

Hey Lee (lnevo)
bday.gif

happy be-lated birthday, Lee!

Howard Stern just announced he will be the new judge on America's Got Talent.

Thoughts?

I am 100% on board.

Who did he replace? Paula Abdul or Cee-Lo??:confused3

Things are starting to pick up at work. Helped proofread a presentation from one of POSCO's labs today. Next week, I'm going on a business trip for a few days. I'm also working with some coworkers on revamping our training model, which is requiring a lot of research. Oh, I also helped with training new employees last week and today by teaching them a simplified form of rugby. All in all, loving my job.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it!

Hello all,
My name is Chris. I'm a father of three DS(7), DD(4) and DD(2). Happily married to my wife for eleven years. I am a Disney addict. We go twice a year with an upcoming WDW and DCL trip in January. It seems I'm always planning a trip and indoctrinate my children daily by having them watch the WDW parades on youtube. I'd love to be a member of the DisDad's as I identify with the majority of your criteria.:wizard:

Welcome to the club!

Thanks for the offer. However once the kids came along, I no longer have the time or knowledge to compete in fantasy leagues. I now pick teams like my wife, "A bear is much stronger than a dolphin, however the dolphin is faster". It's sad, but true. I keep up my disney obsession, but have let the sports slide a bit. I still love BACON, so can i keep my man credentials?

You can always use Dwayne's method from "What's Happening?"...

Sick as a dog last night. Throwing up, etc. Hate that. Haven't done it in years. Anyway, I HAD to go to work this am for 3 hours (unfortunately no way around it) & accidentally put two different shoes on. I posted a pic in FB, Not my proudest moment.... I must say, only one guy noticed (yes, my gay co-worker, cliche I know). The woman all noticed.

Anyway, starting to feel better now, just thought I'd share my foolishness!!
I accidentally did that yesterday, but didn't notice until today, when I grabbed a pair of socks that didn't match. Looked in the hamper, sure enough, there were the mismatched pair. So I did what I feel anyone would do...I wore the new mismatched pair. No sense in washing only half of them come laundry time.:lmao:

I would sometimes have to leave in the middle of the night for work and I would get dressed without turning on the light so as not to disturb DW. Gone to work several times with mismatched socks, and sometimes even with inside out shirts!! never mismatched shoes though. Probably because they feel different. I only one one pair of dress shoes, one pair of casual shoes, and one pair of sneakers.

yooooooo!!! wassss up??? hi guys!!!!!!!

Welcome! Don (Emma's Dad) will be around to give you your number.

It's a valid reason!! Run with it! :thumbsup2

Being that I've only been on the disdad's an hour, I'd like to say sorry if I insulted any Cub fans. However I have no problem insulting every RedSox fan on here.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: It;s funny cuz it's true

Once every couple of years I;d take mine off to try and clear up the skin underneith, it gets so dry, but in late September it came off for the forseeable future, for no real reason. It took some co-workers (and my parents) a few weeks to notice the difference. On the other hand I've let it go quite long too....

Once I've tored of the clean-shaven look I think I'll try it again, although there is a LOT more grey now

Who would you look like ? :rolleyes1

On the subject of the youtube vids to prep kids, I found it tremendous in re-building Amelia's confidence back up after the last year's "fright"-fest. In August she was so hyped for Everest she was freaking out that we took our time getting there. I also developed a chant "Are you ready, for spagetti, with the yeti" that helped:rotfl2:.

Amelia had freaked out on almost every ride last October so I worked on prepping her. Of course, there are other factors that helped too. She didn't care for BTMR back then, but ask Ron how quick it took her to jump on with Hunter!:rotfl2:

Okay... so all caught up and still awake. The last two days have been busy. Wednesday, we went into NYC to see the "real" santa at Macy's, as well as see the tree. Got our usual late start and made it into the city and were parked at the garage and on the street by about 12:30pm. We immediate made our way to Earl of Sandwich for lunch. We caught the end of the lunch rush, which meant no seats, so we took our lunch over to rockefeller plaza and found seats downstairs in the concourse. We got a look at the tree on the way in, and watched some ice skaters from the basement before leaving for Macy's.

First order of business was to drop off DD's letter in the giant mailbox.

P1020516.JPG

Choosing to go to Macy's Santaland on a weekday was SO much better than the weekend crowd. They were telling us the wait was about 25 minutes. Probably closer to 35-40, but that's nothing compared to the last time we went. The theming of the line is great, so that helps with the wait, even though the dad behind us asked EVERY elf we passed how much longer the wait was.

The big question was how DS would react to the fat man. He did well with Santa for the first minute or so, and then started to get upset.

P1020536.JPG

P1020537.JPG

Next it was outside to see the windows.

DD got upset because she had trouble seeing the windows since so many people kept standing or walking in front. We lingered for a bit to see them all and try to let her get a good look, but it wasn't enough for her. We had to use the lure of hot chocolate to get her moving to our next destination, Bryant Park.

Bryant Park was great. There was plenty of seating. The weather was nice, and we sat and enjoyed hot chocolates and pretzels while watching people ice skate and listening to music. We finished that and then browsed some of the kiosks there, and got a closer look at their smaller, blue-er tree.

P1020540.JPG

P1020553.JPG

Next it was back to the bigger tree. We walked up 5th Ave, and got to the tree just in time to see the Sax 5th ave building's show. In the past, they had giant lighted snowflakes on the side of the building that lit up to music, but this year it was projected images on the building. It was cool, but I liked the snowflake show better.

Next we worked our way toward the tree, stopping to get a family picture (which I have to locate on the web, or go back and see if I can purchase when I go to work on Saturday.)

We were hungry and needed dinner, so we headed over to the Stardust Diner, stopping for another picture or two.

P1020563.JPG

P1020565.JPG

We were seated quickly, though not accurately. We told them we needed a high chair for DS, but that request went ignored and DS had to sit on our laps. The food was meh. We all had dishes that came with fries... and for each of us, that meant about 7 or 8 waffle fries. Not very generous. We paid double what we would have paid at our local diner, so that was on par with a NYC meal. The entertainment factor was what drew us to the place. All the waiters and waitresses are aspiring broadway actors and they take turns singing on a little stage, or while they work. It sounded interesting, but for me it ended up like watching good karaoke. One or two singers were really good, and the rest were good, but not great.

By the time we wrapped up and were leaving, it was already 8pm. We had to blow off the last stop on our agenda, the Times Square Disney Store. It was just too late. So we got our car and headed home, put the kids to bed, and passed out.

Thursday morning came too quickly. DW got up and went to work. It was payday for her and she got an unexpected christmas bonus!! (part of the new contract worked out was a bonus instead of salary increases.) She didn't think the bonus applied to this year, so the extra little something in her check was nice!

I got DD ready and off to school, then DS and I went to pick up a few things at the store, then back to pick up DD and commence my first ever playdate. :rotfl2: DD made a friend from up the street at this one-day-a-week program she attends. The family seems very nice, and the mom brought her 3 DDs over for a bit. Turns out they are also into Disney, having been down to WDW 3 times in the past 4 years. So not only was the playdate a success, but we may have another family in the neighborhood to share our disney obsession with!!

Doubt anyone is up reading this now... hopefully you are all having a good friday!!

Gross out time. And I apologize for that and the fact this is going to be long. Couldn’t sleep so I decided to write. Forgive my babbling.

Earlier tonight, DD was taking a goofy picture of the dog with antlers and decided to go through the other pictures on my phone. She came across this. Don’t remember taking it, must have been enjoying good drugs.

That was taken about a year ago this week. It was around week three of my six week hospital visit. Believe it or not, it looks a lot better than it did when I first went to the ER. The swelling was about two or three times larger. Lost a ton of weight by then as you can see by the way my foot looks now.
Image1.jpg

It all started with a slight swelling in my left foot and within a week spread to both feet and legs. Like an idiot and a huge phobia of doctors, (sorry to our Dis Dad Docs) I was convinced it would get better. Luckily, my daughter was more rational and called 911 to have them drag me kicking and screaming to the hospital.

Was going to wait until closer to the end of the year to say goodbye to 2011. Well, goodbye 2011. It was a different year and one that many of the Doctors at the hospital thought I would never see. My body basically shut down at times because of the infection. Thanks to their tireless efforts and my decision not to check-out, I am still here. Short of having a Priest give me last rights, they were concerned that I would not pull through. Funny, but I never thought so and kept arguing with them to send me home. “But you kidneys are failing.” My response? “So, they can fail at home just as well as they can fail here.”

So what was my 2011 like? December 30, I was out of the rehab place that helped me learn to walk again. New Year’s Eve was spent laying on the couch listening to football games on the radio because a friend decided to suspend my cable because I wasn’t there. Cable wasn’t restored until the following Monday so I missed all the games on TV. Damn her. Did listen to some of them on the radio and read a lot until they could reconnect my cable. Food Channel Rocks.

For a while I was a complete invalid. Needed help just sitting up on the couch from a prone position. Gradually I got stronger and was able to get around ON A WALKER. A friend of mine from the UK was in the US on business and made a special trip down here just so I could go to my beloved Keys and sit by the pool. It was nice to see things other than the walls of my living room.

In March DD’s school obligations meant she couldn’t go on a pre-planned trip to the World so I went solo. Tough trip where I spent a lot of time resting in the room and by the pool. Did make it to the MK for a few hours. Started to feel alive again and independent.

Another trip to the Keys where I could walk better but still watched while DD and my UK friend depart on the boat to go diving. A couple of months later, I felt well enough to sit on the boat while they dove. Shortly afterward, I strapped on my gear and with help from the crew, I was able to breathe bubbles again. Granted mostly just sitting on the bottom but I was blowing bubbles! Another dive trip in October for my birthday when I got some good pictures of a cooperative turtle and a sleepy nurse shark.

My Disney life was also full. In addition to the very laid back trip in March, DD and I went during the summer when we did many things including indoor skydiving and parasailing. That and a surprise trip for DD to V&A. Add on an impromptu trip to see Halloween Horror and a the recent Reunion and Dis events.

So all in all, it was a year that I am glad I didn’t miss. Next year will hopefully be even better. January, I get to hug the Princess as she crosses the finish line for her first half-marathon. February I am going to dive Roatan for a week with some friends. The Princess is graduating from an intensive academic program (fingers crossed) in June and will be heading off to college in the fall. Before then we will have over two weeks in Hawaii and Disneyland. Plus I have 60 DVC points I need to use before June 2012.

So what did 2011 teach me? IT IS GOOD TO BE ALIVE! That and the human body is resilient. Gained back most of the 35 pounds I lost and am able to lead a somewhat active life. Still fatigue easily and walking can be a chore, but all in all, life is good. Looking forward to a great 2012.

Sorry about my ramblings. It was cathartic to write down a little bit about this year and I thank you guys for putting up with it. Now I am ready to get back to talking about bacon. LOOK SQUIRREL.

Well, there goes my theory about nobody else being on this thread right now! :rotfl2:

That is an AMAZING set of before and after pics!! I can't begin to imagine what you went through, but I'm glad to hear you're doing well. It is certainly good to be alive! Thanks for sharing those pics and more of your story. I hope you have a great 2012!!

Great pics of Santa and the decorations at Macy's. When I lived in NY, took DD to see the "Real Santa." She was more excited about the wooden escalators than seeing the big guy. Really miss NY at Christmas time.

Good morning and happy Friday :cool1:

CJ, glad that you are here and have recovered :thumbsup2

James, great pics of NYC! Can't wait to take the family there someday.

What a bummer. Just found out that MSEP won't be performed while I'm at WDW next month. Having never seen this in person, I was really looking forward to seeing it. :sad1: Guess I'll have to find something else to see:goodvibes

Here's a question for all of you wise DisDads:

We've got a big family trip to "The World" coming up in March - it's a Christmas gift for our 3 daughters and their families (14 total counting wife and I). The kids know the date but not much more.

My wife has created cute itinerary binders to give them as a wrapped gift on Christmas day. All the details are included, airline, rental car, lodging, etc, etc.

She wants me to create a dvd with some videos to build excitement with the grandkids (excitement already there but she wants more). I know how to capture youtube, undercover tourist, type of videos.

But I was just wondering if anyone out there in DisDads land has already done something like this before (and might be willing to share) - or has any awesome ideas for me?

And yes, I have procrastinated this until the week before Christmas! Is procrastination a DisDads vice or virtue?

:santa::santa::santa::santa::santa:
