DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

Way to go Elin  :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2: .
I didn't have a good week last week & didn't go to my meeting Tuesday night. But I have been back on track all week, so I am hoping to have a good weigh-in this week.

It's a struggle sometimes, but for the most part I am proud of what I have accomplished & looking forward to loosing more.

Jennifer-I am so glad to see you are going to the doctor to get your asthma issues figured out. I was going to suggest it but I see you were already doing so. Different drugs can make such a difference with asthma. Sending :wizard: :wizard: and :grouphug: that your doctors helps you get it all figured out and you have smooth sailing :boat: for the rest of your training.

ELIN

I posted this on the other thread but decided I would also post here.

party: :cool1: :cheer2: :yay: party: :dancer:
CONGRATULATIONS

on meeting your initial goal and :wizard: :wizard: to keep on going.

Despite stuffing myself and eating my way around Walt Disney World, I lost .6 of a pound. :cool1: :cheer2: I honestly think I ate more food in the past week than I did in the entire month before, as the antibiotic I was on, finally did not have me without any appetite at all.

Sending :wizard: :wizard: and :grouphug: to everyone on your journey to becoming healthier.

Thanks again, Becky. How wonderful to return from a trip to the World having lost a little weight! I sure hope you are feeling better than before you left. :goodvibes

Great job Becky on the loss after a trip to the World. That is awesome.

My weigh-in is tomorrow night. I am back on track now & hope to resume my journey in the downward direction.

Just keep swimming...... :fish: :fish: :fish:

I'm so sorry that you are having such a hard time! Does your breathing stay this bad if you are just walking? That might be an idea.

Hopefully the doctor can give you some ideas on how to handle your asthma for the marathon! Just don't give up!

Hello! I just realized I never responded to this. Yes, my breathing is that bad even if I'm just walking. I mean, if I'm walking at a decent pace at all (outside). The good news is, I'm feeling a bit better emotionally than I was the other day. We've just resorted to training indoors again until I can see my doctor, and the other day I did 5 miles without any trouble! It was almost, dare I say it, easy!

Ok, so not "easy". And certainly not fun, but much easier than I anticipated it would be! Maybe we can do this thing! :cheer2:

Checking in........I lost the 1.5lbs I had gained back, so I am happy with that.

I'm just going to keep on keepin' on.

Congratulations on the 5 miles. Of course you can do this thing! There's no stopping you, now!

I've been meaning to ask you, how did you know you had asthma? I've been getting a bit concerned with Leslie this year. Since she was born, she's had a really bad cough every spring and late summer/fall. She gets coughing so bad that it's hard for her to breathe. I take her to the doctor, and he checks her lungs, and says they are ok, but lately I've been wondering if I should ask him about asthma. I just don't know.

I had attacks pretty frequently as a child. I had allergy shots then, which helped some. I had another round a few years ago, and it helped tremendously! I never really coughed related to the asthma, but do get bronchitis 1-2 times every year (and have since about middle school). When she goes in with the coughing fits, how does he check her lungs? Just listening to them for something like pneumonia? Or does she get a chest xray, and get worked up for something like chronic bronchitis? I would definitely let him know you are concerned. Truthfully, if you go in that often and he hasn't pursued it farther, you'll probably just have to let him know that it really makes you wonder, and it's been going on for xx years, and that you would like him to see what else could be causing to happen so frequently.

Good luck! It's no fun knowing those illnesses are coming!!!

When I take her in he listens to her lungs like he's checking for pneumonia. He always says there's no fluid in her lungs. She's never had a chest x-ray or anything. I guess I'm just going to have to be a bit more assertive. Thanks for the advice!

I would just ask specifically what else it could be given her recurring symptoms. Bronchitis, asthma, etc wouldn't have the same presentation as pneumonia (no crackling lungs for one!). I'm not saying he is missing anything, but it can't hurt to ask! :goodvibes

We went to six flags yesterday and since they didn't have a carb freindly menu we had to break the diet. We did not over eat and only had one treat so not too bad. What amazed me the most was that I got on the scale this morning and had lost a pound. So I was faithful to my diet for 2 weeks, lost a few lbs initially then nothing, I break the diet and lose a lb :confused3 It really doesn't make sense.

Thanks. You don't know how comforting it is to be able to have someone give me this advice. I've never had to deal with anything like this as my other kids are as healthy as horses. I'm just a novice at asking questions. I just assume that since he's the doctor, he'll be able to pick up on what's wrong. I forget that he's human and if I don't give him all the information, there's not much he can do.

I have noticed that the last week or so, Leslie's cough is pretty much gone unless she begins to run around, or spend too much time outside. I'll have to let him know about that!

Sometimes there are things about weight loss that really puzzle me, too! I just wish it was consistent. It would sure make it easier to deal with, right?

Congratulations on the pound loss! That's great! :cheer2:

For me my asthma was discovered about a year after I had pneumonia, although I think I probably had it before just undiagnosed. Like Jennifer I also got allergy shots not sure if that was before or after I was diagnosed with the asthma though.

I went to the doctor with a cough that you could time about every 30 seconds or something. Same noise and sound repetitively. He gave me a spirometer test you breath into a tube and it measures lung capacity, how your air flows, etc. I was having a quick drop off at the beginning of my breathe of my lung capacity but it quickly went back above normal. I ended up on a nebulizer for a few months and then just inhalers. I now normally only have symptoms when I am sick.

Although I did have an attack at the end of April when I was at the Service Unit Brownie sleepover, it happened overnight while everyone was supposed to be sleeping. I currently don't have any meds at all for it. I made myself coffee and went outside into the cold and that relaxed my airways enough so the attack subsided.

Glynis, from another nurse (I did pediatrics for 12 years & now work in an adult primary care office) always ask lots of questions & give lots of information. Doctors get so busy that sometimes they need you to gently push them to delve a little deeper. Sounds like it could be excercise or activity induced since it's worse when she is running around or gets hot. Don't be afraid to be assertive.

P.S. I hit double digits for my December trip today. Wooooooohooooooo. I know it's still over 3 months away but still. :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:

Thanks, everyone for the advice. I'm going to call and see if I can make another appointment to lay everything on the table and get some answers!

Ok, this is a big deal for me.........all this time I haven't been able to get on a consistent excercise path.

Don't faint :rotfl2: . I have excercised 3 times this week. I have finally started using my transFIRMer. Those girls on the FIRM sure look good, but good grief I want to throw something at them for making me work so hard. I have found myself mumbling out loud at the tv :rotfl: & not nice things either.

I am sore, but feel like I might be able to keep going which I know will help my weight loss journey.

Today,my coworkers and i measured and weighed ourselves. We are going to be doing this once a month, near the end of the month. If we stay the same or lose weight, good...if we gain, we put 10 bucks in the pot..At the end of this, whoever loses the most gets the money..
So as of this morning, this is where i stand.
157 lbs (not happy with this at all!)
Waist-29.5 inches
Arms-11 inches
Legs-23.2 inches
Hips-42.9 inches
chest-35.4 inches

im really going to start focusing on what i am eating and how much of it i am eating..I need to kick myself into gear. I want to drink at leaset 4 bottles of water a day as well as stop snacking..NO MORE ICE CREAM! The mini goal is i want to be down to 145 by the time i go away on my cruise..hopefully that is an attainable goal.

I have a drs appointment with my endocrinologist on tuesday-I feel that my thyroid levels are low, so im hoping we can do something to change that..That can really hurt my weight.

Have a great weekend all!
