DDA Chapter 25

I found the thing about study hall online somewhere, and for the life of me now I can't find it again. But the high school counselor did say it is mandatory. It is some acronym - PAWS - that is study and organizational skills.

As far as PE, marching band counts as .5 PE credit. So if he marches for 3 years he will have the required 1.5 PE credits. If he takes an actual PE class he can't have more than 2.0 PE credits count towards graduation. If he wanted to take a PE class as a year-long elective next year instead of Spanish he would be done with PE entirely. (1 credit for PE and .5 for band.) I do think there is a required .5 credit health class, too.

Our kids have to take PE every other day for 4 years. There are no choices on PE either, and they have to take the class even if they are competing in varsity level sports. They have a half year mandatory health course, too. Matthew did his in summer school the same summer he took driver's ed. Laura hasn't taken health yet, and doesn't want to go to summer school, so she'll have to fit it in next year. I know that they have to take 4 years of English and 4 years of social studies (9-10 Global History, 11 American History, 12 Government/Economics). There is a 1 year Fine Arts requirement that is satisfied by orchestra or band (and many electives). There is a foreign language requirement. I thought that it was 3 years, but someone recently told me that it's only 1 year. I'm not sure of the math/science requirements, because that is what my kids like, so they are above requirements on that.

A study/organizational skills class sounds like a good idea.

Well, at the Arts magnet there is no PE, only dance. Which is fine, because ALL of the boys have to take it.

All of the plans require 4 English, 4 Social Studies. Foreign language is none for minimum plan, 2 for recommended and 3 for distinguished. Minimum requires 2 years of science (Biology and one other), 3 of math, but the math does NOT require anything higher than Geometry. With the right teacher I bet he might be able to pass Alg I and Geometry IF he isn't completely swamped with work from his other classes.

I am not opposed to tutoring in REASONABLE amounts. But to make him go before school, AND after school, EVERY DAY, AND possibly have to go at lunch as well is just ridiculous. If he just needed to go before school a few days a week that would be fine.

The regular high school is saying they won't allow anyone to choose "minimum" plan until after the end of their sophomore year, but other than the foreign language credits it doesn't really MATTER until then. I just have a feeling getting them to allow "minimum" will be a gigantic battle. Not to mention I have NO idea how he would fill those class periods if he isn't taking math and science, because there simply aren't that many other electives!

I didn't take math or science my Sr. year. I think the only academic class I took was AP English! I can't remember the rest of my schedule. I was on Yearbook staff so that was one class (that we usually skipped), I think I was a Teacher Assistant one class, I had DECA, and then there was one more. Obviously it was a complete blow-off year for me. :rolleyes1

My mom just called to tell me my BIL's mother passed away morning. Toni was an amazing woman who welcomed all into her heart. Toni had a serious lung issue at the beginning of the year....basically bed ridden for 2 months, which they believe led to a blood clot and small stroke. Well, last week she had a heart attack and was placed on life support...passing away this morning.

The musical Cassidy is in the pit for opens tonight....I am hoping to sneak in and out without being seen by too many parents, I just don't want to have to explain the cast over and over....I also hope it doesn't become too uncomfortable sitting there....I am such a hoper.

Sorry to hear that Theresa.

Tell Cassidy good luck from me, please. :wizard: Also I hope you don't have to explain to many people, or better yet thell them to mind their own bussiness.

Well, if anyone is available and able to do dinner Saturday evening, let me know. It will be Alyssa and I.

I don't think that is too far away from me...i may have to go to my grandmas house but if not and if it's not too far away I would love to meet up for dinner if you do not have plans

Beth forgot to respond, the latest is 18" hope we don't get that. And John said if we do we can't get any more the rest of the winter, because we wont have any place to put it.

Heidi glad to hear your mom is ok.

I'm about 45 minutes from Exton. But who knows what the weather will do.

I was supposed to have a breakfast meeting at 7:30am but they already postponed it. I am supposed to have a meeting tomorrow night, that is a reschedule from when we had the snow two weeks ago, who knows if it will happen.

I am over this weather. I wish I could escape to FL before this storm hits.

Hope you are all doing well.

Tammi, Stephanie and I would love to meet you and Alyssa. I guess it all depends on the weather here too. We will be able to tell better on Friday.

Hello all! :wave2:

Vicki, I think I missed you, but I hope you and Chuck have a magical Disney trip! :wizard:

Theresa, thinking of you.

Terry, saw your FB post. Hang in there, friend!

Glynis, I hope today was a better day!

Heidi, great news about your mom! :goodvibes

Bernadette, you have been so busy, I'm sure you haven't really allowed yourself time to grieve your brother. Please take care!

I hope the snow predictions aren't true! I am definitely ready for spring!

I ended up taking the boys to the pediatrician on Monday...double ear infections again, though Noah's were "bursting" and Matty's were "cloudy fluid." Both are feeling much better on their antibiotics!

I had my OB appt. today. 2 cm. dialated and Sammy is definitely in position. I went ahead and scheduled an induction for 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10th.

I'm in multi-tasking overdrive tonight...so much to do. I don't imagine life is going to slow down for about 18 years though. :)

Morning!!the snow has started ugh.we are supposed to have conferences tonight but I think they will be cancelled which will be a pain to make up..so ready for spring

Great! Keep me posted on what the weather up there is doing. Right now we haven't gotten anything. I hope it stays that way!

Theresa - I'm so sorry for your family's loss.

Amy - I'm glad to hear the boys are feeling better. Take care of yourself these last few days.

Elizabeth - It sounds like you have a long row to hoe. Good luck!

Another snow day here, though it isn't snowing. It is raining off and on and with temperatures at 32 degrees the back roads are a sheet of ice. It is expected to turn back to snow this afternoon. I have cancelled tonights meeting so my previously full day is now free :goodvibes

Hope they are feeling better soon.
