Marci hope your shoulder continues to get better :wizard:

Tia good news about Terras toes :cool1: Sending :wizard: for Phil!

It does sound very similar to Hunter. I hope that you can get her to eat more often too.

I'm glad you made progress on your planning. I'm sure everything will come together.

I'm not sure what I'd do. I suppose that if I were just going to be in the room to sleep I could stay at a 2 star, but if I were going to spend any time at the hotel, I'd want a nicer hotel. The problem is that there are no recent reviews so who knows how it really fairs? If you do tell them about the poor reviews, but then it winds up being nice :confused3 On the other hand if it is really as bad as the reviews then I imagine most people wouldn't want to stay there.

Thanks! She does know that she needs to eat, but I guess she forgot yesterday. It really has improved making sure that she has a few things in her locker that she can always get to, so yesterday was a reminder that she still needs to do that.

As far as the hotel...we probably will be there for more than just sleeping this time. The girls need to be at the competition pool for a few hours on Thursday morning and a few hours on Friday morning. We'll be there from early afternoon Wednesday until after the competition on Friday. The boys may all hang back at the hotel for even more time, because they don't need to be bored at the competition pool when the team isn't even in the water. I realize that the coach makes some great points about the team all being together, and if I could see this hotel now, I might be ok with it. But if we get down there and this place is as bad as a couple of the reviews, it could be a miserable couple of days for the family. I don't want to stir up the whole team because of my worries, but I just don't think we should chance it for the $20 we'd save.

Don't remember if I ever posted a hello for the day. So...Hello, DDA!

Kristi's interview went well. She's shadowing today and will start next Wed. It's only small part time for now, but has a chance to double the hours very soon. She'll also have her supervision (required for 2 years before she's fully licensed) provided so that's really good. The hours are late afternoon/evening so she'll be able to take a part-time job in the morning or something to help income-wise as well.

Phil's appointment went okay. There are a couple of new pieces of research information that have come up so he's going to try a few "new" things regarding his calcium, sun exposure, etc and then they'll do bloodwork in a month. Unfortunately, there already seems to be an increase in depression and anxiety so he restarted those meds. The meds cause a lot of drowsiness, but we'll all just stick it out if it means improvements on some of the symptoms. Ai yi yi it's confusing sometimes!

Sounds like a great opportunity for Kristi!

:wizard: for Phil (and you and Terra)!

Thank you for all your good thoughts. We were able to get Hunter in to see a doctor at 8 AM. He hadn't eaten or had anything to drink so it was the best time to go. She did a quick glucose test and checked his urine for glucose. His fasting glucose level was within the normal limits and there was no glucose in his urine. That plus the previous blood panels make the doctor confident that he does not have diabetes. She listen to our concerns and gave him a thorough workup. She agrees that he is hypoglycemic, but thinks that that is the problem, she's confident that he has no underlying disease. I'm sure I approached it from every angle just to make sure. For now we are making sure that he eats every 2 hours and he will go to the school nurse once in the afternoon for a snack as he eats lunch at 11:40 and doesn't get home until 3. Hopefully this will help him maintain his glucose levels and stop the plummeting that has been happening. We are supposed to log any episodes that he has in the future. We also discussed his low weight and from a medical standpoint they feel (this is the 4th doctor I've asked) that he is at his perfect weight. He has been on the same growth curve for years now.

Thanks again for your support. Hopefully we can regulate this without too much trouble now that we recognize the problem.

Deb continued :wizard: for Hunter. Glad you were able to get him into see the Dr. so quickly!

Beth - that's a tough call. If you've got to stick around the hotel for awhile most days, then I would be tempted to change locations too. Plus, I don't think it's reasonable for you to have to get two rooms or have Laura stay elsewhere unless it's her choice. That said, I can see how you'd be in a tight spot. Good luck!!

I'm heading to work...again. I can't wait until 10 PM. It is absolutely pouring here and it's cold too. Not a night to be out. Colby came home from school, took a hot bath, put on his jammies and bathrobe and told me he's in for the night :rotfl: smart boy.

Beth, I've been on many trips for Cheerleading and Dance, I never had a problem telling the coaches that I was making my own plans, including travel and accomodations. Just make sure she's where she needs to be when she needs to be there.

My kids were in more talkative moods than normal yesterday, so I think I actually have some semblance of a schedule for our trip. Assuming Laura doesn't go hysterical at a practice and tell her coach that she isn't swimming Nationals.

After Nationals, we are going to Jacksonville Beach, Fl for two nights. One of those nights is 4th of July, and the fireworks are from the fishing pier. We'll be at an ocean front hotel, so we should be in a good place to see those.

From there we'll head to Williamsburg with a one-night stopover in NC so that we don't have to have a super long day of driving. We'll spend two nights in Williamsburg. No one is interested in going to Busch Gardens, so we'll focus on the historic sights.

Next is one night in Gettysburg, and then we'll head home.

Now I just have to get all the hotels lined up. :)

Gettysburg is not too far from Stephanie and I :goodvibes:goodvibes

I would like to think that he would really enjoy AKL but not if he goes into it thinking he just doesn't want to be there. I checked availability for Kidani and they do have a 1 BR savannah view for about $100 more than Jambo. I wonder if being close to the pool there and being first on/off the bus would outweigh being close to Mara???
I think I could get him to say yes but I want him to want to say yes and go into it thinking it sounds like fun!

Only your will stay home. DH will let me take one child but he doesn't think I can handle all 3.:headache: It would be a LOT cheaper if I could get a room for the 4 of us who really want to go. My first choice would be for DH to go with us AND have a good time and enjoy seeing the kids have a good time. If he won't can't do that then I wish he would stay home.

I am trying to think of things we could do that would be new/interesting for him.

He's never stayed at AKL and I think he would enjoy that.

He did like the layout of the family suite so I would think he'd have to LOVE a 1BR villa-my worry is I won't get him out of it.

We've never been to Cirque du Soleil and I think everyone would enjoy that (except maybe Joe). Is is loud? Joe LOVED the Nemo show at AK but he HATES the Lion King show there.

We could try a few new (to DH) dining things-that is probably the best way to make sure he has a good time-feed him well.

The ironic thing is he doesn't really "participate" when he's there so even though he's been 7 times he still doesn't know where anything is-like what park Spaceship Earth isn in.....SO...it should ALL be new to him.

I have read that the buses coming from Kidani to Jambo are already full. They BETTER fix that before I get there, or Member Services and WDW in general are going to get a daily ear-full. On the chance that it WON'T be fixed, and in the interest of an extra bathroom, I might book Kidani.

I don't recall Cirque being loud. DS LOVED Cirque.

Let me know if you want me to add you to the Cape May dinner ADR. I can call IPO.;)

Good luck to Kristi! :wizard:

I hope the meds help with Phil's symptoms! :wizard:

The Dr. visit went well today. He said he would NOT give an ADD diagnosis - he thinks it is cognitive impairment due to the ADEM. Now, having said that, he also said the ADD meds help with focus and that is obviously important, so DS should continue to take them as long as they help. He said DS lacks visual/spatial processing speed, which will impact his math ability. He came up with a list of things for his report that I can use to lobby for DS's 504 to be reinstated. And we aren't asking based on ADD, we are asking based on a neurologic "thing", something visible on an MRI that the school can not argue whether it exists. He will send us a full report in a couple of weeks.

It was REALLY good for DH to be there and hear about the findings, because so often he thinks DS is just being stubborn.

After the Dr. we went to the mall for some lunch. Stopped in the Disney Store and bought a few T's. Stopped at Marshall's and found the New Balance mules I wanted in chocolate brown! The problem is, they look stupid with footie socks and they are kind of rough to wear without socks. I must ponder this dilemma.

Elizabeth - I hope the Drs report helps you with the school. It sounds like he has a lot of good information for you.

Can you explain more on this? I am horrible at math and though I was tested for learning problems, things back in the 70's weren't as good as they are today.

He said DS lacks visual/spatial processing speed, which will impact his math ability.

I hope that with this new diagnose you can get DS's 504 reinstated. :wizard::wizard:

My kids were in more talkative moods than normal yesterday, so I think I actually have some semblance of a schedule for our trip.

:yay: Don't forget that Fredericksburg is known as "America's Most Historic City" and you know a few people who live here... just sayin' :rolleyes1

I think I've made up my mind on the apartment. It is $479 a month with a month free this year. I lived in these apartments for 3 months when I first got the job with the state 11 years ago. I had to be in Lansing for 3 months for training purposes. Here's a link to the website with some info. What do you think?

The Dr. said DS doesn't "see" patterns and his brain doesn't organize information the way a "normal" brain does. He said the pathways in the white matter of the brain are all kind of dependent on each other, and the signals are interrupted because DS has the blotch where the cells have no myelin. He said the areas of gray matter are far more specialized, but the white matter areas are more of a network.

He showed us a drawing, and said he asked DS to copy the drawing. It looked sort of like a house - big rectangle, small triangle on top, but there were a lot of extra lines, an X through the main rectangle, things like that. The Dr. said most people see that big rectangle and triangle and draw those first, then move on to the other lines and shapes. DS doesn't. His brain doesn't put the info in that order, and his drawing resembled the original but it wasn't exact. He has trouble sorting and organizing info to be able to use the info effectively.

Having said all that, I have NO math ability. NONE. I failed geometry the first time I took it, I got a "C" in summer school. I took Liberal Arts math as a sophomore. I needed one more math credit, and I could NOT make sense of Algebra II. Couldn't even manage the first lesson. So they had me repeat Algebra I since my 8th grade class didn't count as high school credit. I suspect I have some sort of learning difference in math, but I have never been tested.

I think it looks like a great place to call home, Vicki! Will you have to buy some furniture or do you have some you can bring down from the UP? Your rent is so reasonable!

It is so hard to tell about apartment complexes from the websites. I would look around the complex during the day, then I would go back in the evening and see if it gets scary. I would look online for crime stats. Will your apt. have a washer & dryer included? Burglar alarm? I would be all about safety and security since you will be there by yourself. Is there an officer on property? Do the leasing office employees live there? Can you park near your unit, or is it crowded all the time? Are there people above, below, etc? I know the woman under us does not appreciate all the drumming, even though we impose restrictions on how much drumming takes place. My mom had HORRIBLE upstairs neighbors who made noise all night, their teens ran up and down the stairs at all hours, it was a mess. Obviously if you are locking in for a year you want some reassurance that your apt. will be peaceful.

The apartments we lived in 6 or 7 years ago are pretty bad now - lots of crime. A guy was murdered 2 nights ago at the Dairy Queen a block away. I would be terrified to live there now. But I bet if I drove through during the day it would look nice. Obviously Lansing isn't Dallas, but those are things to think about. :)
