Well, Gov. Palin will be in our fair city on Monday. All I foresee is horrible traffic and lack of parking for our students and their families. :sad2:

I hate when there is ANY sort of event like that where traffic gets backed up - I don't care who the visitor is. I think if it is going to disrupt the routine of a city the visit should be restricted to evening hours when there aren't as many people trying to accomplish normal tasks. It isn't fair to have people sitting in traffic or trapped in their offices due to road closures.

In her 5 days she's been in our fair state (you read that right DAYS!!) she has stayed fairly far away from Denver for her stops. Colorado Springs and Pueblo have been the republicans main focus...they think by winning that county they can win the state...I never could figure out a politicians math.

The one that is going to create headaches is on Sunday, Senator Obama is supposed to be in Downtown Denver....doesn't he know I want to go to the zoo??:confused3 :rotfl:

Elin, I found this about COBRA, but it really only references HEALTH coverage, not dental. Can it be claimed under major medical if her dental coverage has been cancelled?

From what I know, it is all one policy. I will let her duke it out with the HR Department. I am not even certain she knows what COBRA is at this point. I am sure she will learn as quickly as her Dad and I did 18 1/2 years ago.

I bet he just forgot... send him a reminder email!

I bet he just forgot... send him a reminder email!

better yet I'll text him!!:lmao:

the next 12 days are going to be a pain the patoot...we're on the 7th day of a republican and/or democrat muckety muck in our fair state. Yesterday and today was Biden, and the 2 days prior to that was Gov. Palin and her husband did a tour of outdoor stores to stomp for the ticket yesterday. I am thinking pretty soon we'll have the first lady wanna be's at perfume counters. :rotfl2: Sorry, that was snarky.

Elin - if for some reason she hears negatively about the insurance, have her contact a dental school nearby. My brother (no insurance) was able to get his teeth repaired at a massive discount from graduating students. And he was able to repair his whole mouth...no job he was able to cover it ok with his unemployment checks.

I can't wait to see Matthew's pictures!

I have a funny story about your "Hamburger Gravy." Our school system used to serve it, and Bob and I both liked it. So, he asked for it when we were first married. I sent him to the store to buy flour and I proceeded to make dinner. We watched in amazement and some horror as the gravy on top of the mashed potatoes began to grow. Seems my Yankee DH didn't read the package (and neither did his wife). It was self-rising flour. Even the dog wouldn't eat it! :rotfl:

:rotfl:

Kyle passed his Step 3, with a wonderful score no less! :yay: :cool1:

Yay for Kyle!!!

Vicki and Chuck, my heart and thoughts will be with you tomorrow as you honor your dear Dad. He was such a wonderful man. I hope you are able to help your MIL through this difficult period. Strength to all.:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Somehow I missed this in my numerous attempts to catch up. I am so sorry.

Theresa - Thanks for posting the sad news about Glynis' mother. I am so glad she was able to spend good time with her before the end.

Glynis,

Bob brought Kristin to dinner tonight following my rehearsal. He was just not himself and he left early. When I got home 30 minutes later he had already gone to bed. In the kitchen I found another letter from the CEO of his company. In addition to the 4 facilities they closed last week, today they let 28 corporate people go. Again it does not affect him directly, but will touch people he knows and cares about. This is all getting very scary.

:grouphug: That is horrible! I remember times like that. It's hard to feel good that you still have your job when all around you people's lives are being turned upside down.

Well I had an aunt that used a cast iron frying pan on her DH. :rolleyes1 But that may just as well kill him, so how about a very thick newspaper.

Family legend has it that my mother actually dumped an entire pot of spaghetti sauce on my father's head early in their marriage. :rotfl:

Jennifer I wouldn't know about breaking down the schools in my area, but they all have just one mascot... we are the bears.

We have three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school in our school district (town). They are all Tigers.

Last night Jackie and her friends went to a concert to see The Plain White T's....they wanted matching T-shirts for the concert so I quickly designed something for them...

Anyway...she came floating through the door last night, apparently all the band members signed their t-shirts!!

Now she wants to frame the darn thing :rotfl2:
Extremely cool! Pictures?

As horrible as this is to say (and I haven't said it out loud to him), I am very thankful that he still has his job. When we went through this back in 1990 he was one of the first ones to be cut. I do not want to go through that again. We are still recovering. I am not sure we could do it a second time.

On another not so good note... today is Kathrin's 30th birthday. Last night some friends took her out to dinner and coming out of the restaurant she slipped on the wet pavement and fell. She has a nasty shiner but more importantly she has a broken tooth. She called me in tears this morning. She asked what more could possibly go wrong in a week's time. I was afraid to discuss this with her at this point. Please send some good thoughts her way. I think she could really use them.
:grouphug: The last big cut around here was in May, 2002. We were in Disney World the day of the actual announcement, but many people knew ahead of that. Dh's manager told him to go on the trip but wouldn't tell him his job status. He was told to call in that morning to find out. Thank goodness, he still had his job, but it was devastating around here for so many others.

 for Kathrin! Sometimes when it rains, it pours. I hope that the rainbow comes out soon for here.

This was one of our major meals when I was little. We were lucky to have 1/4 pound of hamburger in it. It fed mom, dad, me and my brother. We always had it on mashed potatoes. I didn't realize we had it because we were poor until I was much older. Can you imagine a young, grown man having to share a 1/4 pound of hamburger with the rest of his family? Now a 1/4 pound hamburger is small for so many.

I'm thinking that my version had much more meat than dh's mother's version back then.

Hi, everyone....remember me? :flower3:

Thanks for all the PMs and e-mails recently. I'm sorry that I was AWOL for so long (and I know I sound like a broken record), but it's just been general craziness in my life right now. It's all pretty much work-related - just had a lot on my plate, my assistant took a job oppty. she couldn't pass up at another firm a couple of weeks ago, etc. I'm hopeful, though, that I'll be able to be around more in the weeks ahead. Know that you've all been in my thoughts and prayers!

Just in reading back over the last few pages, it sounds like everyone could use a big collective :grouphug:. For all those that have lost loved ones so suddenly, please know that you're in my prayers.

Elizabeth did a great job catching me up to speed on Friday, so I'll just jump back in and try to keep up as I can! I've missed you all.

Well, Gov. Palin will be in our fair city on Monday. All I foresee is horrible traffic and lack of parking for our students and their families. :sad2:

Are you even in the "real" Virginia?

Glynis, I am so sorry about your mother. You are in my prayers.

Chanon, congratulations! :bride: :groom: The pictures are wonderful. I am so happy for you and Bob. :cloud9: :lovestruc Did you get my gift in the mail? I never got a confirmation of delivery from them, so I was worried it didn't arrive.

Hi, DDA! Sorry to be MIA. Work is busy, and we had 3 babies die this week on my shift. It was so sad. And both of John's grandmothers are in the hospital and not expected to live long. He just left this afternoon to go see them both. He took his suit with him just in case. The kids are very upset at the thought of losing all 3 of their great-grandmothers in a one month time frame. But they are very excited about Halloween next week. Rees is Sorcerer Mickey, Davis is Cody the Storm Trooper from the Clone Wars, and Brantley-Kate is a green and black witch.

Hope everyone is well and sending out hugs!

She actually broke down and cried at the dentist's office. :sad1: It is not an easy fix, nor is it going to be inexpensive, I am afraid. The tooth now has a temporary crown on it. But it will require a root canal and a permanent crown. The teeth on either side of the broken one both have fractures in them that the endodontist needs to look at.

And when they pulled up Kathrin's insurance information, it shows that it was canceled the day after she was laid off. :sad2: She will have to contact the HR department and find out what is going on as this is not what was promised. I am hoping that they are nicer people than I have given them credit for. It is worrying me quite a bit.

Oh no, what a messy situation! I hope the insurance is as promised, and not worse :(

She and John McCain have been here once a week (at least) in almost all of the last 5 weeks... not to mention all the times they were in Dayton and Northern Kentucky! I'm not sure what other areas of Ohio they are visiting this frequently, but I'm pretty sure they should just rent out a few apartments at this rate! :)

Nice to see you, Denise! I will keep John and his family in my prayers. Please pop back in and post pictures of the kiddos after Halloween! :goodvibes

Lindsay -- it's so nice to see you back! :yay:

Hey, Theresa! Did you know in band a "keyboard" is actually a set of bells? What is up with that?
I e-mailed the band director about these "all city" auditions on Monday. If DS goes he will get an automatic 100% on his 6 week exam. So I wanted more info. Turns out DS would have to play snare, timpani, and "keyboard" to audition. He hasn't touched the bells at all this year. The director just started him on timpani yesterday. Um, hello? HOW is this supposed to work?

The director says DS can go to the audition as a "learning experience" but that he is not prepared to actually audition. Hmm. So what now? It all seems rather confusing. I mean, should he go and just play the snare portion and have that count as his 6 week test, knowing he won't be able to audition on all 3 instruments because the director hasn't prepared him? Or maybe All City will be lacking percussionists and they might take him just on the snare portion? Who knows.

OK. Off to ballet!

Glynis wasn't kidding when she said her mom was going downhill fast:

Theresa,

My mother passed away tonight at about 8:00 p.m. My brother and father were with her at the end, and said that she was very peaceful. I'm leaving first thing in the morning with my sister to help make arrangements for the viewing and funeral. I'd be grateful if you could pass this information along to the DDA for me.

Glynis
I am so sad to hear this. Lots of prayers for Glynis and her family.

Kyle passed his Step 3, with a wonderful score no less! :yay: :cool1:
Congrats!

How scary. In the budget process with all the cuts I couldn't help but think a lot of what we were doing was self fulfilling. We anticipate sales will be down so we cut back on promotions but whose to say that sales won't be down because we cut back on promotions.:confused3

Have a great day.:flower3:
How are you doing?

Hope things settle down for you soon!

Vicki, I am so sorry for your loss too! I just went back and noticed your post. You and Chuck and his family are in my prayers as well.

I have not heard bells being called a "keyboard". Keyboard, piano yes not bells. But none of our bands have bells either though.

I just talked to Glynis to get the information of where to send the arrangement and she is holding up remarkably well.

The service will be Monday afternoon and she will tell me when she is able to get back on line.

I passed on all of the DDA's love.
