DDA Chapter 11

4th grade is violin, viola, cello or bass
5th grade: clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, trombone, flute, tuba

Question for you elementary school moms.....

What instruments are offered in your schools? I remember when I was in elem. school violin/viola was offered for 5th and 6th graders.

Today I get a note from school saying that 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are going to be playing the recorder. I am requested to buy one (thank goodness they are only $4 and change) or he can share in the school's supply and they will be washed after every use in the dishwasher.

Is anyone up for assisting Nicholas with his Flat Stanley project. We have to send FS off for a month or so, and you are requested to keep a journal, attach pictures and send postcards. We would really appreciate it. After everyone jumps at the chance ;), if you don't mind, I'll let him choose where he wants FS to 'vacation.' TIA!

Is he supposed to go do stuff, or can it be:
Journal Entry 1 - Today we did 8 loads of laundry! (See attached pic!)
Journal Entry 2 - Today the cat threw up on the rug. Elizabeth told DH not to feed her so much chicken, but that man doesn't listen. (See attached pic.)
Journal Entry 3 - Today we went to Target, the post office, and the grocery store. (See attached pic.)

If that's the content you are after then I am your girl! :thumbsup2

Garrett & Riley both had to play the recorder & I do believe it was 4th or 5th grade.

Kristine congratulations :cool1:

Elizabeth thanks for letting me know ds received his pin.

Since Kristine brought up parades, I see the Obama supporters are having a booth at the Pride Parade. I haven't been to the parade since I quit volunteering for the AIDS walk, but I bet they will have stuff DS can use for his project. Might have to pop down to the park and see what I can gather. :thumbsup2

Some of those events sound like fun!!!

Is it for their regular music class? Does everyone have to participate? In Emma's school she can play the violin/viola/cello or bass this year but next year can play just about any instrument. The recorder isn't a choice though.

When DS was in elementary there was a band program but it was after school only. I don't think there was music AT ALL. The specials were Art (sometimes), PE, computer, library. There was choir, but it was done like band as an after school activity. Then they moved the 6th graders to middle school and cut the funding for elementary band, so there isn't a program to feed students onto the middle school band program.

At least one of my sisters, maybe both, had to have a recorder. I think they are obnoxious. Of course DS brought an actual snare drum home today, so I imagine I am about to find a whole new definition for obnoxious.

Have fun with that!!:rolleyes1

I won't meet your criteria for a while ;), but we played the recorder in 4th or 5th grade. "Regular" instruments weren't offered until middle school (6th grade).

He can visit Emma and we can take him to Dallas.

I think this is a fabulous idea! ::yes:: We'd be more than willing to do it, since we like to get out and about the city. I don't know your dates, but we'll be in Cincinnati now through 9/24, then in Chicago, then on lots of day trips during our "staycation" the second half of October.

Then again, I will completely understand if Nicholas would rather FS not vacation with a bunch of babies! :teeth:

Just let me know!

That's they way I remember my elem school being. This is strictly during their once a week music special. I wish they had more of a music option.

He can do that here in Virginia!

He can visit Emma and we can take him to Dallas.
That sounds like fun. And Elizabeth can get in on the action too! :thumbsup2 Plus Nicholas has met Emma and Elizabeth's DS so that might be good. Thanks! When do you leave?

Thanks for the offer, Jennifer. The neat thing here is that FS would be the same size as your girls! I'll let you know.

I love Wednesdays! I don't have to go anywhere. But it also means that I have to cook dinner. Off to grill my steak. I might even get adventurous and mow the backyard.

the recorder was a requirement for both girls (on top of their instrumental music) at all of the elementary schools they've been to. You're getting off cheaply, I would buy the instrument it will get used every year. Heck, I remember having to play the recorder in the dark ages:rotfl:

Just wanted Stanley to have realistic expectations. ;)

That's probably a better plan than sending him here. :rotfl2:

Well, we WERE going to go to Target but it's raining. :headache: I bought overnight diapers because Princess keeps flooding out of her Pull-Ups at night. Well, now she is flooding out of the overnight diapers almost every night. Since that happens when I'm not here I can't accurately diagnose the problem. I don't know if they aren't putting the diaper on properly or what.:confused3 So Dadboss wants more plain diapers. I told Momboss Princess HAS to use the potty before bed and that she can't have anything to drink after about 7:30 PM, but I don't think they are adhering to that.

We don't leave until Oct 16th.

That's what everyone around here is doing, mowing the jungles that popped up with all the rain.

Emma just starting whining about what....Recorders!!:rotfl: Apparently she found out that she will have to play one in the spring and she doesn't want too!! News to me.
