DD10 got a credit card offer!

DS11 gets credit card offers from American Airlines ALL the time because he has a frequent flier number. I did call and ask to have the offers stopped, and I haven't seen one in awhile. DH and I would get them, too, so most of the time we would have 3 in the mailbox at once.

OP - Hopefully there isn't anything funny with her credit report! :wizard:

This is where my dd's credit card offers come from too. We also get 3 at a time, which is funny, because all 4 of us have AA frequent flier numbers. For some reason, they don't send one to my son, and he is older than dd.

we've gotten preapproved offers for my dogs.
figured i don't have time to drive them to the mall :sad2:, & not sure if they would be allowed on the bus alone:confused3 , so just shredded it.
anyway, until they get real jobs, i'm not supporting their spending habits.....

;)

DD does have 2 freq. flyers cards so that must be the reason she got one. The dogs have yet to be pre-approved! I buy all their meds from 800PetMeds.

When I signed up our children for an American Airlines frequent flier account, they began getting American Airlines credit card offers (pre-approved at that). The kids were 3 and 5.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Our cat used to get them all the time. If he had thumbs, he'd be online ordering up catnip and tuna.

Why not just call the 1800 number to opt your children's Social Security numbers out of CC offers for 5 years (or permanently)? Here's an article to show all the places you can opt out of these things: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/20/business/20money.html

Also, Wells Fargo offers their own Visa-brand credit cards--they definitely would not be selling their competitors (as in Discover) their customer list.

You can also put a freeze on your child's credit with the various credit agencies. It's a pain in the backside, but you might want to look into that, versus spending the money to check your child's credit yearly.

Hope that helps!

ETA: You can't do a minor on the 1-800 number, per this link, but the agencies are not allowed to keep a record on anyone under 13: https://www.optoutprescreen.com/faq.htm#22
Why does anyone pay for their credit report? You are entitled to 1 per major reporting company per year.

I do this too. If my name was, for example, Jane Smith, I will subscribe as Jayne Smythe or Jaine Smithers or something close. When I start getting junk mail with those spellings, I know exactly where it came from.

Oddly, I've noticed that most CC offers are spelled like my subscription to Vogue. Luxury products = more likely to need a card? I've called the OptOut number and no longer receive offers under any misspelling of my name.

I also do this when signing up for any kind of information or even when I make charitable donations. I made a donation to a well-known, well-respected charity as "Jaime Smith" (not my real name) and about six weeks later, I started getting junk mail with that particular spelling.

Children can have their identities stolen (often by relatives) so I would run a check and put a freeze on her account just to be safe. It is a pain, but worth it in the long run so she doesn't have any unhappy surprises when she turns 18.

Good luck.

My cat got a couple of credit card offers after taking a flight on Delta in their cargo hold. I thought about filling out his relevant data and stamping his pawprint for his signature, but then figured I'd end up paying his bills for him when he ran up a huge bill at KFC or the sushi place.

The funniest thing was when he got a really good offer for $75 off a roundtrip flight on Delta. Now THIS offer *I* wanted to use. After all, he was MY cat, right? Delta refused to allow me to book using his code, saying it belonged to Sammy Martin. When I told them Sammy was my CAT, they didn't believe me at first, and ended up saying his offer was non-transferable. They did give me a $25 discount code but it was so maddening that my CAT got better discounts than me!:confused3

I can understand a kid getting a credit card offer because of the way people's names get sold, but will someone please tell me why I keep getting offers from the AARP? I'm 28! What on earth did I purchase or subscribe to or whatever that would make people think I want this kind of info?

That is weird for a child to get a cc offer. Want to hear even more weird?? My dog gets mail on a regular basis. And his name is Poochie. Always cc offers and magazine offers. Realllllly strange. How would anyone get his name? :rotfl:
