DCL Summer 2017 Megathread - Itineraries are out!

I want to know this too. Is there a certain time of day and do they have opening day discounts?

They have what we have gotten accustomed to calling "opening day pricing" -- which should be lower. But, as my TA even pointed out, Disney is now starting higher, even on opening day, so the "lower prices" aren't what they used to be because for the most part (depending on the cruise), the opening prices already seem too high.

We were in Disney and on a Cruise March 19 - 27. At some point during that week I received an email from a travel agent that DCL would be releasing their Summer 2017 dates on April 7th.

I agree -- once Oklahoma City and 9/11 happened, you realize we are just as vulnerable and traveling to other parts of the world is really no more dangerous. You can be at the wrong place at the wrong time anywhere, including a McDonald's or mall in this country :sad1:
On black Friday about 8 years ago I was in Toys r us when two people starting shooting at each other. Gang related, but I don't venture out much on Black Friday anymore.

So it seems Norwegian and Carnival both offer kids activities too. Does anyone have experience with these lines and kids? We've got a 6 yo on the autism spectrum, so I'm looking for a level that would minimize waiting in lines and offer room service comparable with DCL concierge (we have a hard time in restaurants, so I don't think we'll be in the dining rooms much).

The best place to get info on those cruise lines would be cruise critic. Look under specialty cruising and then click on family cruising. I think you could find info there. Hopefully you get some responses on these boards too.

So sad -- it's like the OK Corral anymore! And I thought the Cabbage Patch doll phase in the early 90's was bad - when mother's were getting their arms broken over a dang doll!

Look into the Haven on the Norwegian ships. It might work out really well for you.

From what I hear, so does Royal Caribbean. The community board on here also has some great reviews and help with other lines. I got some wonder responses to my thread about the NCL Breakaway.

OMG -- ARE THESE REAL PRICES? I am hoping this is a joke? You can take a world cruise for 29+ days for less than price! I have always been amazed by Disney's prices, but who on earth is paying this? Sorry, I am just so stunned -- you could take 5 years worth of vacations for that one cruise.
I added up the price of our 12 DCL cruises. It came to about 40,000, and that's for four people. That's less than concierge on that one cruise,

Apparently, they want me to pick my favorite child and leave the rest at home. ;) It's not often that all my kids want to go, but if they want to go, I try not to leave any behind. None of them wanted to go on the 9 night Alaska cruise, but they all want to go on Transatlantic cruises and Panama cruises. Sometimes, they will opt out, but they all really wanted to go to Greece and Turkey. I just refuse to pay those prices.

My travel agent contacted me this morning with this email

"The 2017 rates are rumored to be released this week and I will be in touch once your rates/dates are released"

So maybe this week?
Maybe--or maybe a joint announcement with ABD next week? ABD is adding more small ship trips, and they do the add ons with DCL. So it would make some sense--ABD trips out a little earlier than norm this year and DCL trips out a little later than norm.

I know you love DCL, but the Carnival Vista has a great itinerary in the Med that includes Turkey and Greece. My kids were reluctant to try something new, but when they saw the pictures of the new ship they changed their minds. The Imax theatre really won over my oldest. He loves movies. My oldest wants to see the world so I really have to step away from DCL to accomplish this over the next few years. I just don't have the income to do it on DCL. I was very lucky to get this discount on the Iceland cruise. My youngest would be happy just spending two weeks at sea so maybe next year I'll look at the Panama or a TA on DCL. I gave him the option of sitting the med cruise out, and staying at Grandmas, but I think he's decided to suffer through 10 days of touring historical sites...poor kid lol.
I'm not expecting the service to be up to DCL standards on Carnival, but the rooms are beautiful, ships look fun, and the price is great.

I hope you'll come back and give us a detailed trip report after your cruise!

I will. I think there's a few others on this board that are cruising on this ship before me. I'm anxiously waiting for their reports.

Royal Caribbean has a whole autism program. And every large cruise line has kids programs, including Celebrity and Holland America. Those will be calmer cruises because they don't have the large splash pads, and other giant outdoor activities for kids. But they all have kids programming. I'd look at a suite on Royal with a kitchen table and go from there.

So maybe this week?

Yes, I got the same email from from my TA too. IF past experience is any indication, and IF the TA is correct, and IF this 'rumor' is right, then DCL will announce tomorrow and open up booking on Wednesday for God/Platinum and Thursday for everyone else.
