DCL Summer 2017 Megathread - Itineraries are out!

Yes, I got the same email from from my TA too. IF past experience is any indication, and IF the TA is correct, and IF this 'rumor' is right, then DCL will announce tomorrow and open up booking on Wednesday for God/Platinum and Thursday for everyone else.

Got an email from mine last week and said very soon. I have my placeholder ready to go. Hoping for decent rates for September, if it's part of the release.

I know you love DCL, but the Carnival Vista has a great itinerary in the Med that includes Turkey and Greece. My kids were reluctant to try something new, but when they saw the pictures of the new ship they changed their minds. The Imax theatre really won over my oldest. He loves movies. My oldest wants to see the world so I really have to step away from DCL to accomplish this over the next few years. I just don't have the income to do it on DCL. I was very lucky to get this discount on the Iceland cruise. My youngest would be happy just spending two weeks at sea so maybe next year I'll look at the Panama or a TA on DCL. I gave him the option of sitting the med cruise out, and staying at Grandmas, but I think he's decided to suffer through 10 days of touring historical sites...poor kid lol.
I'm not expecting the service to be up to DCL standards on Carnival, but the rooms are beautiful, ships look fun, and the price is great.

I'll have to look into other lines for Greece and Turkey. I find it easier for the hotel to follow you when in Europe, but my kids have packed up and switched countries quite a bit. They seem to have the routine down pat. We are headed back to Asia and switching countries, so packing up and moving again. However, I do find cruises easier because you can move without packing up every country. Greece is so inexpensive right now it wouldn't even make sense to pay Disney's prices; ABD or cruise prices. I'll look into Vista and wait to hear reports. This year is booked solid with trips, but next year Vista might just work.

Do prices increase drastically as time goes on? For example, would booking a Christmas 2017 cruise be cheaper right when the dates are released, vs waiting a few months after?

ABSOLUTELY. Never wait -- for most of the cruise itineraries prices rise weekly -- and on specific ones they can rise hourly on opening day! You can always throw a deposit down and then decide. But even waiting one day could cost you thousands more sometimes.

Well, now the DIS is saying tomorrow might be the day as well, I just listened to "The Daily Fix" from DISUnplugged for the first time and there Peter Werner is saying tomorrow the new itineraries could be released (with the qualifier that it is just a rumor).

Sorry for a rookie question, but if I call on the opening day and make a reservation for 2017 summer cruise with a deposit, and change my mind and cancel one month later, do I get the deposit back?
We want to travel with my mom on Fantasy again, but she says it's too far in advance for her to make up her mind...but I don't want to miss out on the chance to book a cruise at a lower (however small) price.

thank you!

Wow! Thanks for the heads up!

So, is it better to book the desired room on release date, or book a smaller room and upgrade later? I've read somewhere that upgrading later will give you a lower price, versus booking the room later. I worded that terribly.

Here is my situation: My husband and kidos and I are looking to cruise over Christmas of 2017. My mother will probably go as well, but she just cannot wrap her head around booking things more than a couple months in advance. We know that we will want to end up with 2 verandah rooms (should she choose to go). Is it better to book the 2 verandah rooms ASAP, and just put the big deposit down now? Or, is it a good idea to book less expensive rooms (with a less expensive deposit), and then upgrade at a later date?

I doubt that upgrading later will lower your price. However, you not only risk a higher price if you wait, but you also risk not getting the rooms you actually want if the cruise sells out or your category type sells out. I wouldn't take a chance and just book a small room.

Keep in mind also that Disney only allows so many children on each cruise. If you book a room that does not accommodate everyone, and then try to add someone later, they may tell you that that cannot be done as that quota is full, etc. I've seen people post on here about that many times. You would be better to book the room you think you can afford and, if necessary (for peace of mind) book two rooms, and then decide whether you want to keep both rooms. I think you may have a better chance of downgrading later than upgrading.

As long as you are within the time frame for cancellation with no penalty. When you book, your paperwork will show the chart of cancellation options and penalties if you cancel after paid in full.

I think what you mean by "upgrading later will give you a lower price" is that you lock in the rate tier at the time of initial booking. If you book an inside cabin on opening day, and 6 months later decide to upgrade to a verandah, (assuming availability) you will pay the fare of the verandah cabin from opening day and not the current going fare displayed online. Upgrading to a different category will be dependent on availability (stateroom availability as well as muster station), especially if you are trying for connecting staterooms. It is highly recommended to book the level of stateroom in which you would be comfortable cruising, and not plan on an upgrade. Holiday cruises can book quickly.

If you are looking to book 2 cabins, you have a little more challenge with your situation if you aren't completely sure of the passengers. If booked into a room by herself, your mom pays a "single supplement" which essentially means she pays full adult fare for the cabin even though she is the only passenger booked in that room. To avoid this, many people will book one of the children into the stateroom with grandma. However, if there is a chance grandma may cancel, that scenario will mess up the child booked with her. Adding someone later will always be at prevailing rates even in a stateroom already reserved with an extra bed spot available.

Enjoy your cruise!

I'm looking for a page with any good rumors or indications of what will be released. I don't see one? Specifically I'm hoping to find out there will be 5 night double dip cruises being offered summer 2017......

My TA said that if its this week, they would send us the info on a Tuesday and gold/platinum could book on Wednesday. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

This thread is it. Several other threads about 2017 rumors, etc. were all combined to create this mega thread.

Just spoke to my TA -- they have not heard anything yet, but have heard the rumor from other TAs that they may open the itineraries tomorrow and start bookings on Wednesday. :surfweb:
Hey, another week, another rumor :rolleyes1

Yes, this is what I was referring to! Thanks for the advice. I'm going to have to get Grandma to get her act together!! :)

I feel for ya -- my adult daughter refuses to discuss any travel ideas more than 6 months out. She just can't fathom planning anything so far into the future! For me, it's built in over the years it's the only way I know :rotfl2:

Right?! It drives me crazy planning Disney trips with her! She is so used to casino service, where you just show up and tell the concierge the day you arrive all the things you want to do, and they "make it happen". I'm planning our Disney World trip with her, and I get nothing but "quit thinking about where we will eat! We'll just make reservations when we get there."

:worship: Same thing with the cruise. We want to cruise over Christmas? Well then we can start planning at the beginning of December, just a few weeks before the cruise. :scared:
