Ok gotta ask what is lumpia? :confused3
I guess you could call it the Filipino version of a fried wonton ? It's a thin-eggroll type of pastry (?) with meat in it....Much better than any taquito or wonton I've ever tasted. I lived out in CA for a few years and a few of my friends were Filipino and their moms used to make this for parties.....It was over twenty years since I've had Lumpia.....
You must try it if you go to Nassau!

I'm posting this one for those who don't know what the parking lot for the DCL looks like!

I don't know why my DH parked so far away, it really wasn't crowded at all

Eh, not really...Eggrolls have all that "stuff" in it, eggrolls are much larger and the outside has a different texture. Lumpia is all meat.

NOW I know why your pictures are so great!!!!

You've been practicing....you sneaky cruiser you :thumbsup2

I have to get back on that boat and practice somemore :boat:

I had no idea that most meals came with a show...

I was surprised by every one, had to quickly grab my camera-which I did carry to the dining room with me, jic- and grab some shots while the show was going on. Not too many of those pictures came out cause I simply wasn't prepared.

The flag parade and the character breakfast and mickey the sorcerer visiting at every meal...next cruise I'll at least be ready & have a better idea of where to position myself before the shows begin.

~First on the list is to bring some form of tri-pod!~

Leki makes a unipod that doubles as a walking stick...I'll be checking one of those out at work next week ;)

This would be why...

Yeah, it's handy to have a small tripod to take those low light shots. I always bring my camera and camcorder around since it's hard to explain to the folks at home about the great "Chip n' Dale" show you saw during dinner. They always seem to get the wrong idea for some reason. :guilty: ;)

I think I stood in the exact same spot you did for that photo, but I had my tripod with me.

I've seen people use monopods before, but I think they're limited in what they can do. Sometimes I'll use my tripod in a monopod kind of way without extending the legs out. You may as well just get a tripod since you can do so much more with one I think. The monopod certainly will stabilize the camera, but for longer exposures, I don't think it can take the place of a tripod.

Considering the light weight and small size of most tripods, I don't think you'd be gaining much by going the monopod route. It's more of a pain to set up a tripod, but for the extra minute of work, you can get some shots that otherwise would be difficult to achieve.

Thanks again...

I was just looking at your avatar, it's uncanny how many pictures we have that are similar :)

Hey Tif:

One other thing to think about when doing action shots with a digital SLR is to be sure that your memory card is a high speed card. It has nothing to do with the actual shot itself, but it will allow you to take consecutive shots quicker. The faster a photograph can be written to the card, the faster you get on to the next shot.

Hope that helps! Enjoy!

I have a Canon Rebel XT digital slr that I love. I let a friend borrow it to take pics of her daughter at a cheerleading competition (her pics came out horrible...all blurry!), and ever since I can't take good action shots. I used it all last season during baseball, basketball & football for my kids. I need to figure out what is going on before we cruise in 3 weeks. Any suggestion? how do I change the speed?

Also, I never knew memory have speeds? How do I know what speed my memory card is? What speed do I want?

A couple of things to look at on the action shots. The Rebel XT should have an option on it for action shots. This should show up on your display as an icon/figure in a running pose. Definitely use this mode for the action shots. Also, as crazy as this sounds, you may just want to look at the camera and be sure that nothing has changed on the settings. If you normally shoot in program mode, be sure it is still in program. I have a habit on my digital point & shoot of hitting one of the knobs and turning it to a mode that turns on the flash all the time.

As far as the memory cards, The standard cards are 4x write speed. The cards can go all the way up to 80x. You can always look for ones that say "High Speed" or "Professional" on them without having to worry about the exact write speed. But, you must understand that you will not find these cards priced for $29.99. They are going to be anywhere from 25-100% higher for the same card size, depending on the actual speed. That is the trade-off for being able to take more pictures in the same amount of time.

Hope this helps!

Great fire works picture :thumbsup2

Thanks! :teeth: I think I might try to go further away from the aft area next time since the fireworks explode pretty close to the ship. I didn't zoom in or anything, and it was hard to catch the entire explosion.
