Dcl and no one else

I chalk it up to human nature.

Especially as I was called an "elitist" ON THIS BOARD for making disparaging remarks about Disney's incredibly poor wine list.

I didn't realize that disliking wine that's $8 at home and priced for $28 on a DCL ship was "elite".

I can absolutely agree with you on this point. :lmao:

One of the main reasons I like DCL is because I can bring my own wine on board. Not necessarily because I want to be cheap (but that is nice) but mainly because I can bring some bottles that are really good.

No problem. I get tired of the "Disney is so much more expensive" mantra that is prevalent on these boards. Yes, Disney can be a lot more expensive at times. But with planning, it doesn't have to be. I think a reminder every now and then is needed.

You make an extremely good point.

Unfortunately my upcoming cruise was booked sometime last week because I finally realized I was burnt out at work and needed to get away. (Stressful year, no real vacation in over a year and a half.) So we decided on a Disney cruise and, since it was such short notice, paid a pretty penny. I trust Disney though. And my sanity is worth it. (Just ask my husband. :) )

In other words, as you point out, advanced planning plays a huge role in price tags.

Why even start a thread on this, if you don't want to hear the opinions of people WHO WILL AGREE with you? If it were posted on Cruise Critic, the OP would get slammed up one side and down the other....but to post it on a Disney thread, the OP is nearly guaranteed (in his/her thinking) to have people who will agree with him/her, as opposed to his/her colleague.

Correct. The same people who post here often post on Cruise Critic and I notice that their rhetoric is often dialed back quite a bit over there.

My point is this: If the pretty cheerleader, who's 5'8", weighs 120, has beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes has to prop herself up by insulting everyone else....it's not impressive.

There's more to being the best than just looking good.

Let me repeat again: I did not say to the colleague that other cruise lines were tacky and Gaudy. I simply stated that " In my opinion DCL does it for me everytime" compared to others.
I used the tacky, gaudy words on this board to emphasize my and only my opinion on why DCL is for me to other DCLers - thats all.

Yes I did expect some to agree with me and also some to not agree with me - thats human nature, I am not stupid nor insensitive, I fully understand that it would not do for everyone to like the same thing in life - how boring would that be. But I dont understand why I am a Brag or a snob...............

I completely agreed with the first sentence of your first post.

After that, you used words that tend to alienate many on this board. Any disparaging remarks about any cruise line - Disney, Princess, CCL, RCCL, Celebrity are always met with opposition on this board.

For us, we love Disney and choose to sail on Disney for these reasons:

1. We have never had a bad experience with Disney
2. We can only cruise about once every other year and we don't want to experiment with another line unless we could save a lot of money which we haven't been able to do based on our travel schedule and itinerary preferences

I'm sure we would enjoy other lines, but it's just not something that we have the time or money to try as long as keep having great experiences on Disney. My wife did a Princess cruise due to itinerary and timing for a girls only trip and enjoyed it, but she still prefers Disney. It's not implying that Princess is not quality, it's just implying that Disney is preferred for her.

I too used to get upset when others tend to give me a hard time about our vacation choices. However, I no longer care. It's what we enjoy. I'm not going to comment on their trips that don't interest us or say they are inferior or of a lesser quality. They're just different and that's okay. I too wish others felt the same about our vacations, but instead it tends to draw a laugh. It's ironic that it sometimes takes a thick skin to be a Disney fan.

Let me repeat again: I did not say to the colleague that other cruise lines were tacky and Gaudy. I simply stated that " In my opinion DCL does it for me everytime" compared to others.

I would be interested in knowing what your colleague said back to you. What's their exact word?

You should just put it in your signature and then you won't have to go from thread to thread repeating it. ;)

For us (me & DW) it is the lack of a casino and the family atmosphere. Willing to pay more for Disney Experience. A travel writer on the travel channel said that frequent Disney guest are use to a higher standard of service.

The same reason why when someone on these boards says that another cruise or cruiseline was better than DCL, some people get all huffy and have to argue that DCL is the King.

If everyone accepted that there are different strokes for different folks, we'd all get along much better.

Some people get hung up on the idea that you must agree with them or you are wrong.

On the flip side, people also feel the need to defend what they love - you're implying that whatever cruise line they like is tacky, has bad food and gaudy ships. They also want to explain why they love their line of choice.

You're probably getting flamed because of the WAY you're saying it, not what you're saying. I don't care that you like DCL the best, we all have our favorite lines. But it seems that a lot of people, you included considering your post, can't say that you prefer DCL without bashing other cruise lines.

Why can't you accept that other people don't like to be told that the things they like are gaudy and tacky, the food they eat isn't decent, and they settle for lower quality? It's insulting and rude and you should probably expect a reaction when you talk to/about people that way.

I agree with ilovetexas. This is a discussion board not a cheerleader board. I come on these boards for information and other posters real life and hopefully truthful experiences. OP's post comes off as a brag to me (only cruise DCL, only stay at Wynn and DVC member). OP also paints other cruise lines with a broad and negative stroke.

Just because someone doesn't "LOVE DCL at mostly the exclusion of other lines" doesn't mean they are bashing DCL or do not enjoy cruising with DCL. Reviews and comments made by delusional fanatics are not truthful to reality, create unrealistic expectations and cover up what may be issues for people who are more middle of the road in their views of DCL. DCL is very nice but they are not the endgame when it come to cruise lines and a discussion board will reflect this.

Excellent points, fellow DISers! I'm sure the fact that I'm not a DCL-only cheerleader and say so rankles some posters. I have enjoyed my 3 DCL cruises, in spite of mediocre service in the dining room on 2 of them. I'll be on the DIS Podcast cruise on the Fantasy in December, and I'm still waiting for fall 2013 itineraries to be released so I can move an onboard booking. However, I am really looking forward to sailing with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean in May and June, and those cruises were chosen for their itineraries and prices, as well as the ships.

I get tired of the comments about being "nickel and dimed" on other cruise lines. Why is it people fuss about paying for soda and specialty restaurants on other cruise lines, but gladly pay for Palo, Remy, Castaway Cay cabanas, photo CDs, and now Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique (Fantasy) on DCL? No one is better at separating people from their money than Disney! Apparently people just feel better about opening their wallets for the MOUSE! :lmao:
