Dcl and no one else

comments made by delusional fanatics are not truthful to reality

Hmmm, the reality to which you refer is WHY I make the comments I do. Besides IMHO I think the reality is that DCL has more to offer than "pretty ships and the Mouse." Sorry to disagree again ilovetexas. Maybe we can hug it out one day. I'm curious though if you come for the wisdom of the DISboard, how can you feel that DCL only offers pretty ships and the Mouse only? Certainly we fanatics aren't doing a good job of portraying the cruise line we love.popcorn::

Not to speak for Ilovetexas... but, that's what I'm gonna do. ;)

I don't think she (he?) is say that "pretty ships and the Mouse" is all DCL offers. Everyone who has been on DCL before knows that. But, that is what stands out for DCL. When you look at what DCL does best, it's those two things.

There's great service on other lines. Better food on other lines. Most "stuff" for teens and adults to do on other lines. Better varieties of entertainment on other lines... But, no other line has prettier ships than DCL. And no one else has that Disney touch - which is awesome for kids and adults alike.

Surely we can all agree on that, can't we?

Yes certainly! I guess its that Disney touch that people have a hard time putting into dollars. I think that's what we all disagree on! :goodvibes

Great thread and a lot of passion, about what? How I want to spend my vacation time with my family. I mean really, do you really want everyone to like the exact same thing? The Cocacola company would hate it. They have 64 choices of drinks. And oh by the way, if everyone of us just liked DCL, we could not afford to go. Just look at College Football or Super Bowl tickets.

I would love to have my mom and dad (late 60's) cruise with my DW and I. They have never cruised. But I truly believe that they would choose another cruise line because they would want to gamble. They would like the Disney stuff, but where would they truly be happy? Maybe, just maybe somehwere else. Actually where I would want them or you if you don't want to be on board at this time. Some folks will want to see other ports and have other things to do on baord the ship.

I love to cruise and have not cruised anyone else. I choose to cruise with Disney for now, and you can cruise with whom you want. I hate sailing the DCL ships when the negatives customers and other cruise line supported drag down the DCL experience while on board. But to each their own.

Your post reminded me of the Jimmy Fallon Capital One commercial about everyone liking more money..... Unfortunately, I don't think we can all agree on anything and I'm actually quite thankful for that.

First, better food on other lines? Food is very controversial and I don't think you'll ever get everyone to agree on that! My DW went on a Princess cruise and had heard all of the rave reviews of the food. She thought it was terrible, especially the desserts. We all have different tastes and what may be good to one person may be disgusting to the next. Not everyone cruises on 4 different lines and experiences food across the lines. I would venture that the vast majority may only have one or two other experiences to compare. They truly may have had a bad experience like my DW. Why question their judgment or taste as you said earlier?

My wife also found the entertainment lacking on Princess unless you enjoyed Elvis or Sinatra. She said the pool side entertainment was like watching a wedding singer. Again, just a single example. YMMV

With respect to Disney having the prettiest ships. Perhaps to many, but I'm sure there are some out there that disagree.

I'm just pointing out that all cruise lines have pros and cons and it's all simply just OPINION. You cannot generalize anything and get everyone to agree. What may be better or worse for one is not necessarily viewed the same by another person. Anytime someone uses a subjective term, there will be disagreement. JMHO

OP's post comes off as a brag to me (only cruise DCL, only stay at Wynn and DVC member). OP also paints other cruise lines with a broad and negative stroke.

Why is my opinion a brag??? Its not bragging, just voicing an opinion. If I said " I only cruise Carnival and only stay at the Holiday Inn, would I also be bragging??????????? No I would be voicing an opinion or a preference.
The same as IN MY OPINION I feel disney ships have a more classic feel than some of the others. The same as when I go to OKW I feel like I am at "Home". The same as when I go to vegas I feel comfortable staying at the Wynn. Its just a preference thats all. :sad2:

On a note - before anyone says I am dissing the Holiday inn - I actually use the Holiday inn right outside disney on SR 535 once a week, damn good hotel and really reasonable price should anyone want my opinion, in fact I have stopped using Disney Hotels for business now as I feel the Holiday inn gives me everything i need, its clean, comfortable, safe, lovely pool and great customer service. ( Sorry if I am bragging but its true).

There you go, just my opinion.

Why even start a thread like this, knowing that there are hundreds more on the DIS already...and that it almost always stirs the pot and starts an argument?????

The answer to the OP's MAIN question is:

YOU CANNOT GET SOMEONE TO SEE THINGS YOUR WAY ALL THE TIME....IF EVER.

That's why so many of these threads end up in an argument. Someone always thinks they can change another person's mind, and you just can't.

If you have to start a thread asking why you can't change someone's mind, then you need yours examined.

Geesh....LET IT GO..........enough already.

Interesting that you should say 'Let it go...'

OP's first line:
"Why is it that people cannot accept your opinions on certain things and just move on?"

I missed the part where she wanted other people to change their minds about their own preference. :confused3

She just doesn't want to be called a snob when her preferences are perhaps more costly than the average.

Why is it that people cannot accept your opinions on certain things and just move on? I love DCL - I have done other cruises and not one of other the ships even come close in my opinion for quality and style. I was saying this to someone the other day (colleague) and they were flaming me for being snobby etc - I cant help it thats just my opinion, I would rather pay a bit more and get a room I like, on a ship thats not gaudy or tacky and eat decent food and for me thats DCL every time.
This is why I am a DVC member too, I like feeling that we belong in a "family" of people that are treated like friends when we arrive "home" at OKW.
Its also the reason when i travel to Las Vegas i only stay at the Wynn - its quality and I like what I like.

Sorry to rant but there I have let it out to hopefully fellow cruisers, dvcers and friends.
I am not ashamed to want and like quality when I travel - and yes I am a disney adddict - bet i am not alone:dance3::dance3:

What if I were to say that I'd stayed in most of the "top" suites in almost every hotel in Vegas...(darn close).....and that I think the decor at the Wynn is tacky (looks like Steve Wynn combined every aspect of each of his different hotels all mixed into one), the service isn't all that great, the Player's Club perks stink compared to MGM/Mirage properties...etc etc etc.... Could I change your mind?
Do you think it might sound snobby to say you'll only stay at the Wynn, when there's an awful lot of other high quality properties there? Have you stayed in ALL of them, so as to make your comparison fair?

By the way, I'm NOT arguing with you....there's no need for me to do that.....I just think you need to examine your own thoughts about things, and realize that everyone likes something different.....and that's OKAY.

I hate LIVER....but my mom loves it. Does that make me right and her wrong? Or vice-versa? Nah.......

Why even start a thread on this, if you don't want to hear the opinions of people WHO WILL AGREE with you? If it were posted on Cruise Critic, the OP would get slammed up one side and down the other....but to post it on a Disney thread, the OP is nearly guaranteed (in his/her thinking) to have people who will agree with him/her, as opposed to his/her colleague.

Geesh....LET IT GO..........enough already.

Gosh I thought we were just having a good spirited debate, I don't think anyone got mad. Its like Debate Club for Disney lovers! No one really thinks any minds are getting changed here. I just like poking a ilovetexas, its all in good spirits! :stir:

Disney doesn't have a hard time putting it into dollars! :rotfl: :earboy2:

In general, I agree, but one can cruise on Disney for the same or less than other lines depending on when you book, when you travel and where you travel.

I priced our upcoming cruise against the Carnival Dream, RCCL Oasis and RCCL Freedom of the Seas. All three of those had nearly identical itineraries except they visited Nassau instead of Castaway Cay. All three left on the same day or the day after our cruise. I priced the same cabin types to make my comparison as fair as could be.

Which one was the least expensive? DISNEY. Go figure. :confused3

Flys in the face of conventional wisdom on this board, but it does happen at times. I've actually priced the Oasis three times against our itineraries and Disney has been less each time. FOS is usually less expensive as is Carnival, except for this particular trip. Perhaps it's because we need two rooms for the 5 of us and we can only sail in peak seasons as we can't take our kids out of school.

My impression is that she posted here because as Disney people, we'd understand the viewpoint that Disney is not inexpensive, but we think the quality is worth it. And the viewpoint that quality is worth the money, in and of itself, does not make one a snob. Otherwise, a lot of people here are snobs.

Let me repeat again: I did not say to the colleague that other cruise lines were tacky and Gaudy. I simply stated that " In my opinion DCL does it for me everytime" compared to others.
I used the tacky, gaudy words on this board to emphasize my and only my opinion on why DCL is for me to other DCLers - thats all.

Yes I did expect some to agree with me and also some to not agree with me - thats human nature, I am not stupid nor insensitive, I fully understand that it would not do for everyone to like the same thing in life - how boring would that be. But I dont understand why I am a Brag or a snob...............

I don't disagree with what you are saying here.

My comment was mostly just meant to be silly.

I am aware the Disney is not always the more expensive option. :thumbsup2

Re-read my comment. I didn't say all DCL has to offer is pretty ships and the Mouse. Just like I didn't say that all Carnival has to offer is a good price and itinerary, Celebrity itinerary and elegance, or teen activities on RCI. They were all examples of things that I like about each line. Here's your hug......

It's she (Pam); not sure how I managed to delete that from my sig line, I was messing around with it the other day. And yes, that's what I meant. Although, I thought Celebrity Millie was just as "pretty" as DCL Wonder. Not quite as many stuffed animals running around, though. ;)

Disney doesn't have a hard time putting it into dollars! :rotfl: :earboy2:

Your signature about cats makes me laugh out loud every time I see it!

I chalk it up to human nature.

Especially as I was called an "elitist" ON THIS BOARD for making disparaging remarks about Disney's incredibly poor wine list.

I didn't realize that disliking wine that's $8 at home and priced for $28 on a DCL ship was "elite".

No problem. I get tired of the "Disney is so much more expensive" mantra that is prevalent on these boards. Yes, Disney can be a lot more expensive at times. But with planning, it doesn't have to be. I think a reminder every now and then is needed.
