Day by day or all at once?

When I called ms to plan our first trip home :goodvibes I was told that I could call and start making res. for the first day of our trip. I would then have to call every day and add another day to the trip. Is this the standard way of doing things? Or do you wait until you can make the entire res. at once?

I know that it is done, mostly by the planning obsessive amongst us for high DVC demand times of the year. Personally I have not done it and probably would not -- I prefer one call, if I need to waitlist fine with me. We normally reserve at 11 months and if we are going to switch at 7 months so there are generally plenty of options. I only had to waitlist once when we were doing something at about 90 days out for early December.

I have only done it that way when I am looking for a GV or when I am trying to make a ressie for a high demand, low inventory room. At OKW, the only time we have done it was for New Years 1999/2000 and the times we have gotten a GV.

Calling day by day is only necessary for certain types of units at some times of the year. Other wise, you can just make one call to get your first choice.

For example, if you want either a guaranteed Boardwalk view or a standard view room at the BWV anytime in November or December (and probably October), you'd better call day by day as soon as MS opens. I call day by day for a standard view in early December - it's the only way to get what I want without having to suffer through the uncertainty of the waitlist. Many here will also recommend you call day by day if you want a Grand Villa anywhere (including VB). Those are very popular and often book early, especially the lower point villas at OKW.

Since the competition to get into one of the smaller resorts at the 7 month window is increasing every day, many recommend calling day by day as soon as the 7 month window opens if you want something at BCV, VWL or BWV.

If you aren't sure, call MS for your first day and ask the CM for advice. They have a pretty good idea of how quickly things are booking and will tell you if you need to continue calling day by day or if you can safely wait and only make one more call.

Best wishes -

I normally book at at once, and usually only 5 to 6 months ahead- I haven't had any trouble yet- though I am always prepared with back-up choices.

When I book a 1BR at BCV for early Dec at 11 months, the CM lets me know that it looks good and I don't need to call back daily. I usually don't even have to ask!

I usually make my reservation all at once. But a few months from now we're traveling over a holiday, and we wanted a hard-to-book week in a dedicated 2-queen 2-bedroom at BCV. For that, I booked day by day.

We are planning for a 1 bedroom @ BCV around August 20. So what do you think? Can I do it all in one shot or will I need the day by day method?

Well, I'll be calling day to day for my trip in Oct '06. BWV, two bedroom, boardwalk view from Oct 21-26. I'm taking a girlfriend and her dd with me so our girls can celebrate their 13th birthdays together.....just have to get a boardwalk view!!!

I would you could do this in one reservation.

However that say call the first day and ask ms how it looks.

they already have a feel if this is going to be a difficult reservation.

Carol - I couple of years ago I wanted BWV standard view in Dec. I called every day at 8:00 am here - 9 there. one day I was little late called at 10am here 11 there. guess what all were GONE.

Yep! Not surprised. Same thing happened to me, but I got the last one according to the CM. I'm relatively sure the waitlist would have worked, but I hate the waitlist. Would much rather call day by day as soon as MS opens for my early December standard view.

Best wishes-

The only time I called day by day was for the Millenium. We stayed at BWV for the 1999/2000 New years Eve and it was BUSY and CRAZY, We had to call day by day because the resorts (all of them, DVC too) were filled fast. If it's a peak time or you want a certain room, I would call day by day, otherwise, call on the checkout date. Waitlists are helpful too and come through quite often.
