Day 3 - Friday, May 28

We started out this day really, really late. I can't complain though since I was just as guilty of sleeping in as everyone else. Eating dinner after 10pm was really throwing us all out of whack. We ate breakfast in the room as always, drug our weary bodies down to the water taxi where it was waiting on us and rode to Citywalk. We were headed for USF today. Everyone was anxious to ride the Mummy again.

By the time we got in the park and walked back there, it was 11:00am. See I told you we got off to a late start. I saw the Blues Brothers show starting up. Everyone got in line for the Mummy, but knowing I would have several more rides on Mummy and that I could never seem to manage to make it to see the Blues Brothers, I found a shady spot and enjoyed the show. If you liked the Blues Brothers, try to catch the show when you are there. Very entertaining! They came off the ride by the time the show was over then DH took my small camera bag, found a locker and we all headed back in. We waited about 15 minutes. No one tried to scare me this time, but I wasn't making eye contact with anyone in there...huh uh never again! If I don't make eye contact, they won't know I am there. That never works of course especially when you are trying to avoid being picked or picked on, but it did work for me this once. Great ride as always.

Next we headed over to Twister. We ended up in the same spot where we had viewed the storm on the only other time we visited Twister...on the top row to the far right. Could have been in a better spot but the kids had a spot on the railing and they could see well so that was all that mattered. Pretty impressive, but that cow just cracks me up.

My kiddos were dying to see Ghostbusters and I knew LL would love it so I suggested we make our way to the 12:45 show. We got there at 12:30 and all the good shady spots on the curb were taken but we staked out a spot and waited for the boys. I was right. LL loved the show. C agreed with DS and DD and thought it was hysterical too. I didn't recognize any of the guys this time. They weren't any of the ones I had seen before and I don't even remember them from any of FlyFly's pictures. I am sure she knows them though. Is there a Ghostbuster she doesn't know? :)

After the show, we decided to eat lunch at a normal time today so maybe, just maybe we could make it to dinner before midnight. We headed off to Hard Rock Cafe to use our 1/2 price GC's. I wowed my friends with what I dubbed as our own special entrance and exit to Universal Studios. Ok I had to admit that it was the Hard Rock exit when they saw other people using it but it sounded good didn't it?

When we were walking into the front doors at HRC, LL started screaming at some people. Had she lost her mind?? No, she spotted friends from home who she had grown up with! She didn't even know they were in Orlando and here she runs into them. She knew they were on vacation, but only knew they were going to some place you could swim with the dolphins. I told her it was probably Discovery Cove, but she couldn't remember. Of course they had been at DC a few days before, and were now visiting USF for the day. It's always neat running into someone you know when you are vacationing. We were seated eventually at a large booth with a chair on the end. Having 7 in our party did get us extra wait times at restaurants when most parties were seated right away. No biggie. I always expect that with a larger party. I ordered Nachos which hit the spot. Everyone else had a burger or sandwich. Kids had Chicken tenders, spaghetti, and a kids pizza. This kids pizza was awesome, a welcome change from the one at Nascar Cafe that wasn't as large or as good as the 49 cent frozen pizzas I buy at Kroger. It was a long rectangular pizza. I assume it was one of those french bread type pizzas but I didn't get to sample it since DD declared it to be too good to share. She devoured it. DH had told our waitress at some point that it was LL & K's anniversary. He remembered being embarassed there on his birthday back in January and wanted to do the same to them. They didn't make as big a to-do about the anniversary as they had his birthday, but they did give LL and K a chocolate sundae. They shared. Yum!

After lunch, DH left us to go back to RPR for pool and relaxation time. The rest of us went back to USF using the Hard Rock entrance and got in line for the next Nickelodeon show. DD and DS were all upset that we weren't the first in line so there would be no chance of them sitting on the first row thus no chance of getting picked to get slimed or participate. But when we got in there, guess what? We were in the front row of the second set of bleachers. Actually DD and C were on the front row and somehow DS ended up somewhere else. Maybe he didn't want to be picked on after the Horror Make Up Show incident. Anyway, K, LL, and I took our places with the other adults on the front row of our bleachers. While we are chit chatting waiting for the show to start, one of the cast comes up and asks K his name. He tells her and she says, "Congratulations, you are now Captain K!" and she wisks him away. I am silently saying to myself, "oh goodie...oh goodie!" LL asks what they are going to do with him. I told her they were just getting him a special chair or something, it wasn't a big deal. Hehehehehe! They announce the host and guess who it is? No, it wasn't K. It was the guy who played Alex in the Horror Make Up show we saw a few days before! That was the first time I had seen the same actor in two different shows. And I had never before seen this guy at either show. Ok well those of you who have taken your kids to the Nick show know what is going to happen next. Out comes K and some other man dressed as Jimmy Neutron! He is introduced to our bleachers as the Captain. I thought LL was going to fall off the bleachers laughing. We took bunches of photos. Our team unfortunately lost but the show went on. It was time for new volunteers. LL starts waving her arm wildly in the air so I start pointing at her while making all kinds of noise. They picked her as a volunteer for the next round. Hehehehe! Knowing what was coming, I prepared to take more photos. The cast suited her up in her spongebob gear and she began collecting the sponges tossed into her square pants. Too funny! None of our group of kids got picked to participate but they were ok with that. At least there were "celebrities" among us.

C now wanted to see the real Spongebob so off we went to Jimmy Neutron. We waited about 5 minutes for the ride. Afterwards, we took photos of the kids with Spongebob who had apparently just come back on duty to Bikini Bottom. We prowled around in the gift shop for a few minutes then exited USF for the day.

We were off to IOA at the insistence of C who was excited about riding Dr. Doom and Hulk again. K walked with us into the park so he could go to the dining reservations booth to make plans for their anniversary dinner tomorrow night. I told them earlier in the week if they wanted to make reservations somewhere, they needed to check into it as early as possible, but no one listens to me. ;) They could have gotten ressies at Emerils or Tchoup Chop but it would have been for 10:30! So they settled on The Palm. They were pleased. As K was departing, he whispers to me, "Don't let LL buy that Grinch shirt she wants." I said ok and DD ended up going with K to whatever secret shopping they were going to do.

So now it's just LL, me, DS, and C left. We rode Dr. Doom first and got some awesome airtime once again. LL and K then rode the Hulk while DS and I rode Spiderman. We got vanilla chocolate twist ice creams in waffle cones then headed over to Suess Landing. I was on a mission to buy 20 more of the Grinch flashlight keychains I had bought at Gertrude McFuzz's Fine Feathered Finery a few days ago. You are now asking yourself, "why in the world would she want to buy all those keychains?" or you might be saying, "she truly is a nut". There is a logical reason for this. I teach preschool and each year I like to get a little something for my preschool kids for Christmas. But this can get very expensive when you are buying for 20 kids. I started thinking about it and at 80 cents a piece, I would never be able to find anything any better at such a low price so off I went! And besides it's the Grinch...who doesn't love the Grinch? Naturally while there, LL picked up the very t-shirt that I was instructed to keep her from buying. I pondered how to sneakily go about this and realized I had two options: #1 I could tell her not to buy the shirt because I didn't want anyone else besides me to have that shirt. OR #2 I could just tell her K told me not to let her buy it. I went with #2 out of lack of originality and creativity. I figured if I told her #1, she would be mad at me the rest of the day and wonder why she had chosen to go on vacation with such a selfish kook or else just buy it anyway thinking "I don't care what she says...she's a nut". She put the shirt back all the while asking me, "when did he buy it, when's he giving it me?" Heck, I didn't know if he had even bought the thing or maybe if he was just trying to curb her spending!

We walked back to RPR where the pool was very crowded. I looked for DH and DD but didn't see them in our regular spot or anywhere else. We found them lounging in the room. Everyone was pretty wiped out by now. I sat down in a chair and propped my feet up on the bed and there I stayed for over an hour. Everyone else was pretty much the same...vegged out watching TV. I did finally get up and take a shower. The plans for the evening were for LL and K to take all the kids to Motown Cafe for dinner while DH and I had our date night. We had no plans for our night out other than going to USF for the Mummy APH event and that didn't start until 8:00. We decided to join them for dinner at Motown. We each had $50 GCs and needed to use them. I did make the kids shower. They had showered once or twice on our trip...I swear. Naturally DS never combed his hair though.

While everyone else was changing, K rode the water taxi to Citywalk and went to Motown Cafe to put our names in. He called us just as we were boarding the water taxi and said there was no wait and the host there told him we would be seated right away as soon as we all arrived. GREAT! When we did arrive, the host told K it would be a 15 minute wait. What? K said to him, "but you just told me 10 minutes ago that we would be seated right away." The host gave K a "I don't want to deal with you" look and said "well that was 10min ago" UGH. Waiting was no big deal. The problem here was being told one thing but being treated another way and with a bad attitude to boot. We prowled around in the adjacent shop where DH tried on a Afro wig and DD and I tried on funky colored wigs. LL was preparing to take our picture when DH took a step back on my toes which caused me to stumble backwards into a shelf full of glasses. Fortunately for me, the glasses were plastic and there was no damage. Whew! Embarassed, we cleaned up our mess and put the wigs up. We wandered around the arcade downstairs and amazingly did not get ejected from the restaurant. We were seated in about 10 minutes and then had a pleasant dinner. DH was all excited about ordering the Porterhouse with portobello mushrooms. He had ordered this the last time we were there and he has not stopped talking about it since. It was just as delicious as he remembered. And they only charged him 99 cents for the mushrooms. At Citywalk prices, I thought the mushrooms would probably be $3-$4. I had the Motown Sampler which was good. I don't remember what anyone else had because I didn’t write it down. Remember from my previous reports...I don’t remember if I don’t what? Write it down. Once again, DH had secretly told our waiter that it was K & LL's anniversary. The waiter told DH that they don't normally do anything special for anniversaries but he would see what he could do. He brought them out a yummy piece of warm chocolate cake with hot fudge and ice cream and wished them a happy anniversary. We thought that was very nice and made up for the rude host up front. We tipped the waiter a little extra (gratuity was added onto our bill because it was over $50) and paid our bill which was like $8 since we had the $50 GCs.

DH and I departed the crew and headed over to USF. It was almost 9:00pm now. We walked back to the Mummy and got in the regular line. We really enjoyed the themeing in the regular queue. The build up for the ride was much greater and you got the story of what the ride was about and why you were there. And I finally understood what Brendon Frasier was talking about at the end of the ride. While we were walking through the line, someone in costume jumped out and scared me. Yes, I jumped out of my skin and screamed! Now here’s the best part. We get up to the area of the queue where you start to go up the stairs. An employee (a minion, is that right?) named Jennifer was standing there looking all nervous. DH asks her how much longer till we get on the ride. I gently pull on his arm saying, “Honey, she is in character. She is not going to answer you.” Does he listen to me? No. He continues talking to her while she is pacing about nervously. She finally points up and yells out very loudly, “YOUR FATE AWAITS YOU!” DH, still not getting it, continues talking about how he wanted to know if he had enough time to go to the bathroom. No more beer for him. I am sure she was thinking GO AWAY DOOFUS. Our total wait time was 27 minutes. We got seats in the back row for this ride. The airtime in these seats was incredible. We both agreed that was our best ride yet on Mummy. We exited, visited the bathroom, checked out the people on stilts, all music and dancing in the street and got back in line again. This time we waited 18 minutes. No one jumped out and scared me and Jennifer ignored us when we got to her. DH didn’t attempt to talk to her this time.

After that we headed out to maybe have a few drinks somewhere. On our way out, the door to Shrek was open with no line so we walked right in and watched Shrek with a 3/4 full theater. I love that show. There are some parts that are so corny, but I just love it. "I can see! I can see!...Oh, never mind."

We exited and began walking through Citywalk. DS had been wanting one of those flashing lights you pin to your shirt. I promised him we would get one before we left. We stopped and looked at them and debated on getting him one now or waiting until the next day so he could pick it out. We couldn’t decide so we walked on. We ended up at the Lone Palm (Jimmy Buffett’s Airplane bar outside Margaritaville). We found some stools at a table but quickly moved down to the chairs next to the sand. Very comfy! There was a guy playing steel drums and a nice breeze was blowing. Ahhhh! I had 2 Margaritas and DH had 3 beers. Great service and it was a nice way to wind down the day. After our drinks we decided to go ahead and surprise DS with the flashing light basketball. We ended up buying DD a soccer one too. We boarded the water taxi and sailed back to RPR. It was after midnight and we were exhausted. When we got to the RPR dock and saw people waiting to go to Citywalk, we realized that really we were just old.

Stay tuned for Day 5 - Finally! We see The Grinch!

hi

we went to nick studios and my son kept saying he was going to get slimed- i told him very unlikely:rolleyes: - well guess what? he was picked to be slimed- he was thrilled- they had him go in the back with my husband and change into some kind of red outfit and 'we' being the slime parents got special seats in front
at the end of the show he sat in a wading pool and they poured the slime on him- can you believe it?..... i left my camera at the hotel  - so when my husband took him to the back to give him a shower he let them know we forgot our camera and they took a pic of him standing in the shower with the red outfit on and slime everywhere- he also got a certificate stating he was slimed

we had a great time- i even got to participate and throw the sponges in "sponge bobs" pants:hyper:
